2018 BMW X5 M
I picked up my 2018 X5M with 27k miles in April 2020. I was looking for a family sized SUV/wagon that was fast, fun, reliable and good looking. That list basically included Audi RS7, Porsche Panamera, BMW X5/6M. I don’t love the Cayenne, it’s just too plain looking for me.
I picked up my car for $62,900 and the sticker in the truck had an original MsRP of $118,995. I paid just about … half for a 1.5 year old car with a clean title. It was too good of a deal to pass up.
I could not be happier. The truck is gorgeous in Donnington Gray over Silverstone interior with the staggered 21”. Car turns heads on looks alone. Upshifting from 2nd or 3rd gear at redline emits a ferocious bark that puts a smile on my face every time.
This truck hauls my kids to soccer and hauls ass at the same time.
It’s so quick, it’s hard to believe it weighs 5,300 pounds. The steering is accurate and adjustable, the throttle response is instantaneous in sport mode, the suspension is adjustable, thankfully. This car does 99% of what it’s supposed to do as good as almost anything else on the road or better. I can’t think of any other vehicle, short of a Lambo Urus that would check all the boxes the X5M does.
One drive will convince you. I’m an M fan for life now. Wow, just wow. And those seats are amazing!
Small quibbles, when I turn the car off, the garage door opener won’t function, so I have to pull in, click the button and then turn the car off. And why don’t the mirrors automatically fold in when parked. That bothers me because a car at this price point should.
Bottom line, $118k is a ton of money to spend on a car, and even at that price is competing with cars twice it’s price, but depreciation is someone else’s problem and at $62k, nothing on the road comes close. This thing is a beast and will have a home in my garage for years to come.
