2008 Kia Rondo
The Kia Rondo has by far exceeded my expectations. I bought it not expecting much from a cheap Korean MPV, but the reliability and low maintenance cost is surprising. The car, despite being a V6, returns about 22mpg in the city if driven conservatively. Note that this MPG can be achieved by running 38psi in the tires and removing the 3rd row seats. The V6 also offers plenty of power, as … the car can climb hills without being forced to downshift too often. The 5 speed transaxle also shifts smoothly, and came from the factory with an auxiliary air cooler. The engine is very easy to work on in the rare event it does need work, with the exception of the rear 3 spark plugs. The transmission is also easy to service, and comes with a dipstick to allow for easy checking and filling of fluid. This may not sound too important, but consider that many modern cars have no ATF dipstick, and fluid changes are difficult. Despite having over 140,000 miles, the engine has no noticeable oil consumption between changes. Despite its price, the car seems very well built, and I plan on running it past 250,000 miles.
