Toyota wants you to pay monthly for functions

I just bought a 2023 Tundra Platinum and won't recommend this truck UNLESS you fully understand what Toyota is trying to do and can live (and pay) for it. Toyota is trying to setup their cars as a service where you pay monthly for car functions even though you already paid them $69,000. Simple things like remote start from fob Toyota doesn't work unless you pay a monthly fee for wireless......which you SHOULDN'T need if you already have internet access thru your cell phone. 2nd all those functions that require Toyotas wireless to be enabled (requiring monthly fee) stop working when you DON'T have cell coverage .....REALLY??? Toyota really is working hard to "screw" over its customers ....

Bought a 2023 limited, came with a defective transmission from day one. Got it replaced, went another 1000 miles and went to merge onto a busy highway and lost all power. Dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree. Parking brake malfunctions daily, terrible window wind noise, software is buggy, throttle control is brutal. Toyota Corporate has been nothing but shady and grimey dealing with all of this. Will never buy another Toyota as long as I live.

First time truck owner and I love this tundra power but the mpg is well below expectations. I’ve been driving conservatively on Eco-mode for 2 months and I’m averaging 16.7! Estimates are 20/24 for RWD. I agree with other reviewers about the dangerous pre-collision warning and lane assist. I had to disable both as it overpowers the steering and jerks you away or slams on the brakes (with a big BRAKE warning) even if you’re not even close to an object. The steering overall is great & smooth. The interior is beautiful and comfortable. Love the 14in screen and simple to use knobs, but my pet peeve is the lack of split screen for navigation and media (like my previous Lexus). No major issues and I do get a lot of compliments plus it’s fun to drive but very disappointed on mpg. UPDATE: Love the redesign but full of problems that Toyota won’t fix. I’ve contacted HQ numerous times with zero resolution. Let’s start with the terrible mpg for the hybrid. Averaging 16.5 in the city on eco mode. 19 on Hwy which isn’t bad but nowhere close to the 20/24 epa estimates. Second is the squealing brakes in forward or reverse braking. Apparently it’s a common problem with these new tundras but Toyota has no resolution in place nor will they fix or inspect the brakes. This occurred at 1000 miles and I am now at 10,000 miles. It’s an embarrassment driving around & pulling up to a red light with squealing brakes. I wake up all my neighbors when I back out of my driveway every morning. The third major issue I’ve encountered is the dash cam. I’ve never used it or even turned it on but it regularly beeps if I hit a speed bump, or like today, it completely malfunctioned and beeped erratically for 35 minutes while I was driving. It continued to beep even after turning the vehicle off. There’s no question this truck is beautiful inside and out plus has incredible power and acceleration but this has been a huge disappointment.

Rushed to market ??

I bought the 2023 Tundra 1794 package. The interior is nice. Within 2 days the rear bumper end cap separated from the main bumper. I called the dealer and they said this is common! They've had several do this. It will be 4 WEEKS before they get the brackets to fix it. Also I noticed that the engine while idling while I ate lunch in the truck is a bit rough. Finally, the fact that Toyota says I won't get my second key for 6 months because of the chip shortage is annoying. I will keep it at least a year. If further problems arise I guess it's back to the F-150.

I paid top dollar for this hybrid truck that they claim would get 20 miles to the gallon. I’m a construction manager and I drive in the city a lot. I’m getting 13 miles to the gallon. After 15 months of driving the front differential burned up and there aren’t even parts in existence to make the repair. I’ve been told theyre manufacturing the parts. I’ve no idea how long I’ll be in a rental. I bought this truck for fuel efficiency, and Toyota reliability. I got neither.

With less than 730 miles engine stopped running, then difficult to start and goes into limp mode. Has to be towed to dealer, who has had it for almost a full work week. They give usual comment about not being able to duplicate the problem. LOL. Then call me and say, come puck up your truck. Problem is, my phone Toyota app says truck still has 5 vehicle alerts, one being check engine. My recommendation is to wait to buy a 2025 version.

Came from 2018 5.7 Tundra to a 2023 Tundra. Big change, lots of improvements. Interior is nicely layed out. Exterior styling is overall good. Now to all of my complaints. 1. Windnoise coming from both front doors at 45+mph is annoying. It's irritating, wind noise with a whistle sound. Feels like partial open windows at hire speeds. 2. Door panel rattles. Even at 40% of volume the door panels rattle to the point that I just can not enjoy my music. At 70% volume, more plastics come to life and rattle ruining the experience. Feels like interior is built very cheaply. 3. Carplay keeps crashing every few mins. Random things happen, it'll loose the maps, sometimes it'll send music to my phone speaker, sometimes when on call it'll remove the maps from screen so you must end a call to continue with GPS. Tryied 4 different phones and they all do the same. 4. Roof seals are inconsistent and have gaps from factory which allow for water and salt to get trapped under and eventually rust will follow. 5. Dead throttle at times from start. At light or stop when pushing accelerator, nothing happened for 1-2 seconds...this is a safety issue as this could delay acceleration and leave you in bad situation. 6. Heater vent when set on feet is restricted by something and does not allow for air to flow freely. 7. Truly babing this truck and still averaging only 14 mph on hwy which is far from EPA ratings of 17-22. I've tryied premium, as well as non ethanol gas with no change. Stock tires, driving mostly rural road with ideal speeds of 50mph. Even the previous gen Tundra did better on gas. Toyotas apps rates my driving as "excellent" with perfect braking, acceleration, and turning, so I'm not sure where's the problem with fuel consumption. Toyota dealership has no fix for any of my complaints about the truck. Call Toyota USA and they keep promising to send one of their technician to look at the truck, and it's been 4 weeks now with no results. Toyota truly lowered their quality standards for this new Tundra and does not stand by their products like they used to. I've been a long time Toyota fan, drove their vehicles for couple of decades now, and converted many of my friends and family to Toyota. This is a new direction for Toyota USA and I will not be purchasing anymore of their vehicles that are made in US and will be sure to influence other to stay away from Toyota products as of now. And yes, I'll be trading my '23 Tundra for a 2018 Tundra which is the last year of a bullet proof 1/2 ton pickup truck with transmission cooler.

WTH 2023 Tundra SR-5 with 423 miles on the motor!!

This truck is riddled with issues!! 1) the suspension is horrendous!! It shakes you so much while driving on the freeway you can’t be understood while talking through the carplay because your body is shaking that bad. The whole truck shakes uncontrollably! 2) car play issues- goes on and off on its own atleast 3-5 times a drive. Sometimes the screen goes black and won’t turn back on. 3) gas gauge float sticks and reads near empty after filling up! 🤦🏻‍♀️ 4) Brake assist is a death trap!! It will go off and slam the brakes so hard my 75 dog was thrown from the back seat into the dashboard because I was driving on a single lane road with other cars parked on the side of the road. Nothing was in front of me! This has happened alot! It terrifying!! 4) the sensors on the front and back will continuously beep if they get water, snow or anything on them. I have to keep wet wipes in my truck to pull over and wipe the sensors off otherwise they will beep excessively! So you cant drive your 4 wheel drive in snow, rain or mud or it goes crazy!🤣 5) the interior lights are Equivalent to candle light. I have to use a flash light to see anything. 5) The heater smells like burning plastic. 6) when the windows get wet they don’t work correctly. The jump when rolling the window up or down enough that I think it will come off the track. 7) acceleration is spotty. You push down on the gas and maintain the little bit of pressure to start driving and it will be going slow and all the sudden feels like you floored the gas peddle. 8) back up camera doesn’t always work- sometime shorts out and screen goes black or goes in and out of looking like a kaleidoscope. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 9) a lot of wind noise- that bothers me the least but it is true with a lot of the other reviews. This truck is an accident waiting to happen with the brake assist! It’s truly scary every time it happens! Don’t buy the SR-5!! Can’t speak for the other models of the 2023 Tundra.

Water leak inside the passenger door handle

Overall I'm very disappointed that a brand new truck is leaking water inside the cabin, in the Dorr grab. I'm very disappointed how toyota motor Corp handle the situation. My truck spent more time in the dealership than me driving it

Toyota doesn't admit when it puts out a bad product or part. Toyota manipulates and misleads consumers based on its history of quality and previous reputation. Today's Toyota is not yesterday's Toyota. I purchased quite a few Tundras from Toyota over the years but I have decided not to buy anything else from them after they designed the air bank system in my Toyota Tundra XSP in such a way that allowed moisture to be taken into the air bank system that inevitably caused corrosion to the air bank system pump and sensor. Toyota knew about the problem and subsequently redesigned the air intake flukes that were the root cause. However, instead of recalling trucks that were manufactured with the bad design flukes; they put a check engine light and mileage limit requirement in a "notification" and mailed it to their consumers. The notification said that the check engine light must come on and indicate a code for the air bank system failure before a certain mileage limit. Well my check engine light came on on the interstate and immediately put my truck into "Limp Mode"; slowing me down to less then 20 mph on a 65 mph freeway. Big safety issue, narrowly avoided crashing. I towed my truck too Toyota for diagnostic and the mechanic consultant told me about their notification and that I was 500 miles over the mileage limit for them to do the repair for free. The dealership would not do the repair for free because the corporation denied them the $2,800.00 repair fee; saying that it was my responsibility. My problem is that the malfunction of the Air bank system was due to bad engineering design and definitely a safety issue. They redesigned the part that was root cause of the failure. Yet they passed that issue and the cost with conditions by "notification" to it's customers. Toyota is not a good company anymore. Buyer be ware.
