What a Disappointment

2023 Toyota Tundra SR5 4dr CrewMax 4WD SB w/5.5' Bed (3.4L 6cyl Turbo 10A)

Engine sucks. Electronics suck. Trim & finishes suck. The only good “Toyota” thing about it is the 4WD. Toyota should be embarrassed with this truck. UPDATE: So many things wrong it’s depressing to revisit. Recalls, transmission, seat bases cracking, electronics failing, inconsistent performance, trim just falling off, everything seemed loose / poorly assembled, etc. Let’s just say I should have waited for the reviews by all the experts. Kept it for less than a year & went back to the tried & true 5th gen 4Runner TRD Pro (before they slap a 4-cylinder for 2025). First real disappointment with a Toyota in over 30 years of owning one,

2023 capstone- garbage

Traded my 2015 tundra limited in for a w023 capstone. This is probably one of the worst decisions I've ever made. This vehicle had been in the shop more than it has been in my garage. Today the hybrid malfunction light came in along with the check engine and traction control warning. This is the second time in less than 12 months for the hybrid malfunction warning.

Coming from a 2020 Trd Pro I wasn’t sure how I would like the v6 Twin turbo. After driving it I completely forgot about the previous Gen. Tech, power, smoothness, pano roof, quality! Completely love this truck!

80,000.00 dollar mistake, Always had Toyotas and absolutely loved them, have a 2013 Avalon awesome car ! Retired from the Fire Service after a 45 year career that's when I wanted to buy a Toyota truck to travel in. Saw a 2023 Toyota Tundra black 1794 edition black, absolutely beautiful, fabulous interior, had to have it and ordered one. If I had had a couple of weeks to REALY look it over and drive it, it would have been sitting back on their lot. The truck is almost all plastic I live on the Gulf Coast of Alabama where the intense heat of summer is starting to warp certain parts of it, terrible gas mileage 16.7 never been above that and they say up to 24 MPG on sticker. wind noise on passenger side front door, paint extremely thin and scratches easily and shows up really well with a white undercoating. When the tailgate is down there is no step ( plastic bumper is poping loose at the ends as well now. I carry a small step ladder in the bed of the truck so I can SAFELY get in the back. I was always told to have your vehicle under control at all times, not with this one ! With only 8000 miles driving on this abomination the safety devices have caused me to have some very close calls with having a serious accident. This corrective steering is dangerous, and the cruise control I no longer use because several times it slowed me down and people have on several occasions have almost rear ended me. We have a farm and have a lot of tall grass but can't use it in the fields because the sensors detect the grass as something solid the truck slams on the brakes when trying to back up. Defiantly not a farm truck. Plastic interior sctraches easy and the carpet if you can call it that is nothing but fuzz glued on a thin fabric which after a couple of vacuuming starts to chafe up. Has been several recalls one came just the other day. Took it for its first servicing showed them the on button for the radio was broken they said we will have to order a new radio, showed them the loose antenna on top of the truck they said they have to order a new one, on the wind noise they said I would have to get that looked at when they get the other parts in. That was 4 Months ago. Super super disapointed ! For 45 years I was a firefighter ( I drove a Ladder Truck ) and never had a wreck but if I was to keep this truck its only a matter of time and they tell me if I take these so called safety features off it would void the warranty. At this point I drive it very little about one tank load of fuel a month and mostly use my 2013 Toyota Avalon with 250,000 miles (and no problems ) back in the day when reliability was Toyota. To sum it all up, outstanding looking exterior and interior my analogy is, its like falling in love with a super beautiful curvaceous woman but on the inside she's DERANGED. P.S. If anyone wants to buy a low milage beautiful truck drop me a line.

2023 showroom Capstone Hybrid with sunroof, safe and other fully loaded items, 4K miles. I gave five stars however if you compare Capstone to other truck it will not be apples to apples. Amazing power, ride is smooth and quiet (no noise), cameras and safety and anger things work great. Mpg is a downside and I am getting around 15 mpg avg. for 4K total miles with towing 4k travel for about 1k miles (70% highway 30% hills). Still learning all the gadgets but over all good experiences. Other considerations for potential buyers is maintenance cost, 22” tires are expensive @ about $500 per piece.

Still not ready

2023 Toyota Tundra Platinum 4dr CrewMax 4WD SB w/6.5' Bed (3.5L 6cyl Turbo 10A)

I had a 23 tundra platinum. Hated every minute of owning it. The ride was absolute garbage. Imagine riding in a truck without shocks. Now make it worse. The 3.4 turbo is at best 18 mpg. I got 17.5. Everything in the interior rattles. The doors, the windows, the console - rattles. The truck is not ready. Paid $70k and regret every day in this truck. Had Toyota "fix" the interior buzz twice - no change. They changed the door seal, changed the window seal in the door - still rattled going down every crack in the road. And you feel the horrible ride. Look at the lots and see how many of the trucks are for sale. Do yourself a favor. Drive Ford, Ram, and Chevy and tell me you can't feel the difference in absolutely everything from the interior to the ride. $70k? You couldn't give me another one. Toyota is garbage just like all the other manufactures now. Nothing is quality anymore. It's sad.

Bought a '23 1794 Tundra based in past ownership of flawless 2000 SR5 and good experience with 2008 Crewmax. This new thing is disappointing, just feels cheap with all the plastic, fake V8 engine sound, glitchy infotainment system, bottoming out rear air ride, skittish steering. [non-permissible content removed] I'm driving a lifted Camry. Went to trade, offered $58k on a $70k truck with only 6k miles. 😳

It's a lovely truck generally speaking. Road noise is modest, the interior is comfy and it's a handsome truck. However, overall quality is very questionable for a vehicle in the $70K range. Besides Toyota cheaping out wherever they could (ie -you can't open the rear doors when locked with key in pocket because they failed to put sensors in the rear handles). Aside from the obvious, the it has a composite bed (payload of only 1,900lbs), very frustrating entertainment center and wind noise that will drive you out of your mind (Google Wind Noise 2023 Tundra). To add insult to injury Toyota has had no less than 4 recalls on the new Tundra in the first 6 months of my ownership. When discussing the wind noise issue with the dealer I am told to stop bringing it in because the wind noise is normal. "It's just a loud truck". If I could start over I would not buy this truck.

The truck runs and drives great. I enjoy driving it. My last two GM trucks were so bad G M had to buy one back and the dealership bought the other one back. Toyota is my go to brand now.
