Tacoma Access Cab SR5 2.7L 4 cylinder, automatic

2006 Tacoma Access Cab SR5 2.7L automatic tranny. Mine is used for light hauling and trailering my 16 foot Boston Whaler boat. It trailers the boat just fine . It launches and pulls the boat up the boat ramps with ease. I added the bolt on trailer receiver right to the bumper in the supplied holes and added the plug and play trailer light kit. Love this truck. I only wish that it had aux jack for the stereo( iPhone connect). It is too old to have Bluetooth ( even better). The other stereo issue is that FM/AM radio mode doesn't show text( ie- song name, artist) CD mode does. Great value and plenty of power from the 2.7L four banger. Plan to keep it a long time. Currently has 57000 miles. Only repair was battery replaced. I installed red top Optima( should last a while in this South Florida heat).

I have a 2006 tacoma double cab. I am am avid flyfisherman in utah. It has taken me places here in utah that alot of trucks can't. This truck is almost 16 years old. I bought it in 2012. I have had to change the tires once, the heater blower motor and the air conditioner systym because the compressor siezed up. I did the replacement for both. Blower motor was extremely easy. The air conditioner not so much. Paint is starting to fade, I'm going to have it professionaly painted when I do. Hopefully olive drab. Been a great truck. In my view the tacoma is the best midsize truck by far. I'm sure some people will disagree with me. Drives like a champ and some of the places I have taken it should have been on horseback. I will buy a new truck someday but probable not for at least 10 years. I will keep this truck when I do. Probably have to be an electric truck. Hopefully toyota will offer am electric truck, because I don't trust any other automakers Hopefully this review helps you.

Great little truck

2006 Toyota Tacoma 2dr Regular Cab SB (2.7L 4cyl 5M)

Toyota truck number three for me. Base 2wd, regular cab, short bed. The second I shifted into second gear on the test drive I knew she was mine. I love the front end styling of the truck, but think the rear end is ugly. Mileage consistently in the very low 20s (mix of hwy and city) which is a little disappointing. The truck accelerated the same with 1,000 lbs of sand in the back or with nothing in the back, which surprised me (a good thing). I love my little truck.

I echo many of the posted comments that are happy with truck. I am very picky, and point out at stop lights and in traffic at or below idle there is a slight shudder in the drive train. It happens when the AC is on. I feel it in a slow takeoff with my pedal foot. This happens at 1k idle or less. I am surprised over bumps you get “feedback” that I would have not expected, and it's likely due to needing to dampen the shocks and springs in the rear. I guess they are doing this in anticipation of the payload, but it would be nice to have the option to set the “drive” style. Other than that, excellent HP for a 6 cyl and good highway experience.

Great Truck Except

I love my truck; researched thoroughly before I made the purchase. I traded a 2003 Silverado and there really is no comparison between the two vehichles. I have put 4000 miles on it in all types of weather conditions and have to say that the driving experience is a pleasure. Going from the V8 in the Chevy to the V6 was a concern, but it turns out that my Tacoma has power to spare when needed. This is truly a great truck except for one issue that I hope to get resolved and does not cause any long term damage. I notice a tapping in the engine, only on cold starts and it certainly has me alarmed although it quits after the engine is warm. My dealership will resolve this issue.
