Used 2016 Toyota Highlander LE Plus 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl 6A) Consumer Reviews
Overall a very good car
Everything is good with some rooms for improvement: 1. Dash design is nice but lack of flat area to mount other items such as phone holder or dash camera. Windshield seems is the only place to mount , which reduces the visibility. 2. Mpg is not as good as rated. I have 70% local 30% hwy and I get 18 mpg.

Love my new Highlander
I was driving a Toyota Sienna so I was used to more cargo space and a different console setup between the front seats. The console in this car is so big and tall that you could put a baby in it. It is hard to get to the seat belt latches next to it, which means wide people should not buy this car because you will find using the seat belt difficult. I am an average size person and I have to get my hand squeezed down beside the console to unlatch the seat belt. My audio system LCD also seems to have a bug in it when it is cold. It is non-responsive for up to 15 minutes of driving. You can only change the volume until it warms up--nothing else, no radio station changes etc. None of the buttons beside the panel work either. When it does wake it, sometimes it doesn't beep, but most of the time it beeps and often changes the station to the one at the bottom of the list. Then it might decide to go into Search Station mode. It may beep a number of times and you have to try to stop the Search so it won't replace all of your stations. Of course, it wasn't cold when I took it to the dealer and they couldn't help me. Every morning and evening is different in how it acts when it "wakes up". It drives beautifully and handles well on snow and ice here in Michigan for the month I have owned it. The third seat will do for kids or small people for a short ride. It is a big step up to get back there.

Great Family SUV
I needed an SUV to cart around my three children and all of their friends but didn't want a minivan. The Toyota Highlander is the perfect vehicle for us. I have the AWD version so that gas mileage isn't amazing but it is good and the handling in adverse weather conditions is excellent. I got a great deal on the vehicle at $34,000 and they seem to maintain their value. A big deciding factor for me is the reliability of the car. I wanted a vehicle that I won't constantly have to be bringing to the shop to fix "wear and tear" items. I don't have the time or energy to waste on going back and forth to the mechanic. When considering this vehicle I talked to my mechanic (that I love and trust) and he said that if everyone owned Toyotas, he'd be out of a job. He stated that Toyotas regularly come into the shop and leave with only scheduled maintenance. The exterior styling could have been more unique for my tastes but it is classy and pretty sleek so I'll take it. The interior even at the LE Plus trim level is excellent. It is stain resistant cloth through the middle of the seats but trimmed with synthetic leather. After a month of driving it, my kids haven't managed to stain anything yet. I also love that the middle seats slide forward (without having to remove the booster seats) to access the rear seats. You can also slide the middle seats forward or backward in many different positions to allow for more or less leg room in the third row. Having 8 seats is such a blessing. I find that I often keep only two seats up in the third row to give myself plenty of cargo space. I am looking forward to driving this car for many years to come.

Some improvement but still needs refinement
We have been wanting to review this vehicle and finally found the time to do so. Having leased many Toyota's for over 19 years, we believe we may be qualified for a non biased review. We previously had leased a 2013 Highlander before leasing this one. This 2016 has a smaller interior space that's noticeable right away. The seats as most Toyota vehicles are lacking the much needed foam for support. Adjusting the seating position is also a fruitless effort as you will never be able to find a good compromise. We can't stress enough how poorly constructed any of the Toyota seats are. It seems no matter what Toyota vehicle we lease the brakes are the weakest link. With less than 22k we had to have all the rotors and pads replaced - fully covered under warranty as defective. We would say the overall ride is acceptable but not terrific for its class. From the very start, we had exhaust leaking into the cabin without reasonable explanation. Had it checked out three times and the solution was to attach a chrome exhaust tip, which still doesn't completely resolve to our satisfaction. We don't dare leave the vehicle idling with occupants during cold winter weather. For overall positive points: Improved looks inside and out. Toyota reliability. Better paint than the 2013. Much improved handling. Contrary to another reviewer, the a/c is definitely very cold.
Welcome to the Toyota family!
Comfort, quietness, smooth ride (probably due to being new). Suitable for us as a family of four. Great travel vehicle. Planning to keep this in the family for at least 15 years until the girls go to college. Only drawback, when your flooring the gas pedal the Highlander has a hard time figuring out when to shift to the next gear. I noticed that when you floor the car, it will pull hard but the RPM is revving high up to 5000 RPM but the gear doesn't shift to the next fast enough. I don't know about other owners, but that is weird. Usually when you floor a vehicle, it should only take a second of so to shift 1-2-3-4-5. My RPM sits up in the 5000 range for about 2 seconds then drops to the next gear. Overall, satisfy with purchase.
