Used 2006 Toyota Avalon Limited 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 5A) Consumer Reviews
Homerun for Toyota
I've had it for just over a month ('06) and can only say that I enjoy everytime I walk up to it and it automatically unlocks, the seats adjust to my position in memory and it gobbles up the asphalt effortlessly and luxuriously (even with the low-profile tires-215/55/17). It executes every maneuver very well. I haven't driven it hard in corners but I know it will do ok if pushed. The gas mileage is phenomenal for a car of this size and power. I can't say enough good things about it except that I would buy another one in a heartbeat. And oh yeah, the leather is top notch, makes leather in American cars look cheap. I really feel like I'm being pampered from the time I first walk up to the car door.
Engine Oil Problem
AC light began flashing and I smelled burning oil. All of the engine oil had drained. I took it to a dealer who informed me that they needed to replace the oil line. This is a defect with this engine that really needs attention. I would not recommend Toyota or purchase another one since the quality is not there. This is the first time in 35 years of owning and driving cars that I have ever had such a problem.

great car but engine questions
Engine is the only questions. 60,000 miles and a valve spring busted. this was in 2012 and cost $3,400 to fix. Now in December 2014 with 81,000 miles it's a leak in the timing cover, the oil pan, and the rack and pinion. Estimate cost to all is about $3,580. At some point you lose trust in a car. Everything else about the car has been great.
Very Bad in The Snow
I really liked my new Avalon until it snowed. The traction control keeps me from going up any kind of steeper hills!! I was not able to get up a slight grade near my church because once the front tires started slipping the traction control shut off all power. I have never experienced anything like that. The dealership says I cannot turn off the traction control device, which leads me to believe I'll go back to driving my old Lincoln in the winter, which I gave to my son too early!
Blechhhhhh
Poooooor quality. Tailpipes off, engine growls and transmission problems from day one. It's been in and out of dealer for two months!!! My wife hates the seats in front. She says they are very uncomfortable. Plus, Toyota won't fix the darn transmission. They and dealer give me the runaround. Never again.
