I bought one of the first 718's available, though not on purpose. I was shopping for a used Boxster but the 718 looks so much better and it's so much faster, it was very hard to resist. I have a base model with "only" about 20K in options - PDK, wheels, nav, lighting upgrades, and the premium package. The purchasing experience at Sunset Imports was very pleasant and quite easy. I've driven it about 1000 miles so far so it's not even broken in yet, but this is easily the best car I've ever had the pleasure of driving. (Update) I've now had the car for most of a year, and have joined the local chapter of the Porsche Club. The 718 continues to delight me, even when it's sitting in the garage waiting for the snow to melt. It's rock solid, with no issues or trouble at all, and a pure joy to drive. I've taken it on several long road trips and find that it gets better gas mileage the faster you go. Who would have guessed? :) I can't recommend this car enough. Drive one and you'll see.

7th Heaven in 718S Boxster

I purchased my 2017 718S Boxster in May of 2017. This is my 7th Porsche since 1991. I have had 4 911's, 1 Panamera E-Hybrid S and 1 2003 Boxster. My 2017 718S Boxster is the best so far. It is amazing how Porsche continues to improve every model of car they build. I am very impressed with the performance of the 4 cyl 2.5L Turbo of the 718 S and the fuel economy is fantastic. My most previous Porsche was a 2006 Carrera S Tip. up until this current car, was my favorite. Performance was great as well as reliability. I had 90K on it when I sold it and bought my 718S. We decided that we wanted a convertible and with the new styling and improved performance, and fuel economy of the 718, it was a no brainer. The PDK transmission is amazing, fast and perfect. The handling is unparalleled to any car in its class. I don't use it as a weekend car, but drive it on a regular basis. I bought it in May and have 6K on the car now and it is glorious. Id recommend it to anyone looking for a fantastic performing sports car that is great looking, fast and fuel efficient. 5 Stars all the way Porsche! Keep it going!!!

This is my third Porsche and this one is the best. Performance and road handling are better than a new corvette and $20k less. Fuel economy is better than the 13 model. I test drove the new corvette, the BMW, and the Porsche was much better on ride comfort, controls, handling. We use this vehicle on long trips due to not only being fun to drive, but the fuel economy and comfort are the most important to us. The local service from Porsche is first rate compared to other dealers autos (corvette dealer is terrible). If you buy a Porsche you won't be disappointed.

2018 Porsche 718 Boxster S 2dr Convertible (2.5L 4cyl Turbo 6M)

Our first Porsche was a 914-4 when we were first married 50 years ago, BK (before kids). It was great fun. We vowed that we'd get other Porsches when we were able. A few years ago we bought a 2011 Cayman S Black edition, loved it but had to part with it to make room for the grandkids this time. After retirement, we moved back to the town where we grew up, and started a "Tops Down" club with our life long friends. We toured remote parts of Oregon in our Mini Cooper S convertible for a year or so, but still remembered our 914-4 fondly. We found the 718 Boxster S at Porsche Beaverton and fell in love with it. This car is perfect, lots of fun, great power. I thought I would miss the 6 cylinder of the Cayman, but I don't. The 718's turbo 4 has more power, is definitely faster, and the PDK is a dream. The sound of 4 reminds us the 914, but 718 demonstrates 50 years of constant improvement. We are very happy with the 718!

2018 Porsche 718 Boxster GTS 2dr Convertible (2.5L 4cyl Turbo 6M)

I always wanted a car only for me that provides speed, power, agility yet comfortable and quiet on the road and found all the above attributes in the Boxster GTS! Before purchasing this white with red top and red leather interior, I drove a Corvette GS, Mercedes C63S, Mercedes E53, 911 4S Cabriolet but none came close to giving me feeling of closeness and quick reflex of the Boxster GTS. This car feels like perfectly fitted leather gloves. The car feels like a part of me. Because of luxury items and extra cargo space, I was about buy a fully equipped E53; however, it just did not corner and moved like Boxster GTS. The Corvette GS was quick and sounded great but I felt like I was stuck in a bathtub and it was too big. C63S was powerful with awesome sound from the engine but it was too rough, unrefined in its way of moving. Porsche 4S was quick, smooth and moved with grace but just did not feel as intimate and close fitting as Boxster GTS; it felt big and is whole lot bigger than its little brother Boxster. The Boxster GTS is the sports car of my dream.

I recently bought a certified low-mileage Boxster S. I strongly recommend getting a CPO car, since the depreciation has already occurred. The original MSRP for my car was $89,800, and I got it (with 10,000 miles) for $66,000. That, I think, is a very desirable saving. When shopping for a CPO car, be sure to check the in-service date, since the length of the warranty will be based on that. As far as options go, they can be very costly, as is well known. My car included a very nice all leather interior which cost a lot more than I would have paid on a new car. I recommend PASM, not necessarily for the better ride, but because it gives the car a more solid feeling. I have had cars both ways, and having PASM is better. My car has a six-speed transmission. After driving PDK cars for a while, I decided to go with a manual. I also encourage that, unless a manual transmission makes you uneasy. A six-speed is lighter and less expensive than a PDK, and adding lightness is important. If you do get a PDK, get the Sports Chrono option, which will give you launch control. As for the engine, I like the larger S engine. The car that I traded was a base car, which was fine, but the extra power is nice to have, By the way, you can’t tell an S for certain by twin tailpipes - my base car had them. I considered a GTS, but I don’t think that that version offers any real advantage over the S.

My 2020 Porsche Boxter S is the best Porsche model I have owned. It is my daily driver. Over the years I have had a 924, 944, 968 and 911. The Boxter is the best of all of them. The performance is fantastic and I have had many people comment on how great it looks!

After only two days, I'm loving this car. I upgraded from a 2017 Boxster S, and while the S was a great car, this improves upon it. The six cylinder produces noticeably less cabin noise than the Turbo four. Suspension is tight and responsive. Suspension feels perfect. Only gripe: The entertainment interface which was clunky five years ago remains unimproved. Love the car though.

The performance of the turbo four is excellent, but the 4.0 NA engine is a different beast. The Boxster simply drives and does exactly what you ask of it, and feels wonderful doing so. Add in the flat 6 (even with the GPF pipes that Europe gets) and it sounds and drives amazing. The engine note is a little muted versus the 981 (2012 - 2016) Boxster, but has actually grown on me over that engine's note when on the boil, not to mention the added punch through the whole rev range. Put it in Sport Plus with the PDK, and the engine sings along from 3500 to redline the whole time, and feels natural and comfortable doing so. It is not an inexpensive Porsche, and honestly, after a couple of air cooled 911s, I never thought I'd have a Boxster, but the 718 is borderline exotic, and to me feels more like the old air cooled 911s than the current 911 (which to me feels more of a GT, especially at +/- 500 lbs more than the Boxster) All in all, a win in my book, and I count myself lucky that I could put one of these somewhat rare beasts in my garage

4th Boxster, better than ever!

Our Carrera White PDK 718 Boxster S is our 4th Boxster and without a doubt the best overall Boxster yet. The biggest difference in the new series is the motor. The sound is less compelling at lower RPM’s but the power is intoxicating throughout the rev range. The 981/982 series has always felt more refined vs the 987 series and with that a bit less connected at times. Perhaps it’s lightening of parts that’s lost a certain heft to things like the doors closing or the switch to electric steering. There’s a smoothed out refined demeanor that translates to a smoothness in effort on the road along with a maturity about the cars. The new 718 has taken that to the next level of refined sofistication and driving excellence. It’s next to impossible not to be smooth and enjoy this car when driving a backroad. The interior and exterior are subjectively the best looking yet. All in all we are very pleased with this next genation and it really rounds out what one expects or needs in a sports car.

I bought my 2017 718 S with 6,500 miles. $21,000 below sticker price. It is a beautiful unbelievable driving machine. My advice to anyone looking for a Boxster is to search the market for low mileage pre owned. Lot of fun and so rewarding to lock a deal down. I love this car and will have for years. PDK is so fast and fun!!!!

Having owned 7 Porsches over many years, this is my most favorite. It is fun to drive, handles like a true sports car, and with my Porsche of Plano tune is outrageously fast. Brakes are the same as my 911 4S and it stops on a dime. Plus it is sleek and beautiful in Chalk with a black top. Has almost every option a d I keep finding more everything I read the manual. And nothing can beat the Porsche PDK transmission. Try one. You'll love it.

I'm not sold on the Base model

My 2010 Base was in the shop for major maintenance so I got to drive this Boxster around for three days. After those three days, I was mostly happy to get my older Boxster back. My '17 Boxster had a number of options including 20" wheels and PDK. I have a number of gripes with the car: 1) acceleration isn't linear. The turbo kick reminded me a bit of a Saab 900 Turbo. 2) The view out back is greatly restricted. What happened to the rear window? 3) The engine sound is atrocious, like a chain-driven aircooled Beetle met a 2.5L Subaru. 4) Gross absence of storage nooks. // That said, no doubt this car is faster and looks better. Handling was a tad softer and the steering slightly less communicative. Surprisingly comfy for 20" wheels. Otherwise, very similar experiences. I'd like to test a 2.5T or the GTS.

Boxster 718

Much better acceleration then two models back. Great acceleration at higher speeds too. Top speed of 170 mph with 0 - 60 in 4.9 seconds. PDK is faster 4.2 and 177mpg, but i love stick. Those glorious cup holders are still there. Enough space in back and front trunks. Bluetooth integration easy. Garage door opener can be programmed easily too. Love the new body style, more elegant, sporty and aggressive looking. Don’t have navigation, as I like Siri via Maps, and Sirius Satellite was free for three months but I never renewed as I didn’t use it. Careful as the front air damn is extremely close to the ground. Be careful in driveways and dips. I don’t have break assist to speak to. The only thing I should have gotten is automatic mirror retraction and side and rear view mirror dimming. The value of the car dropped precipitously at the year and year and a half marks, but this is expected in a new sports car. Basically it’s art! I rated a lot of catagories with “ok” as 5 Stars, but this just meant those attributes didn’t matter to me or didn’t apply. So, as you can tell, the only negatives for me are low front airdamn, road traction to a slight degree (I do tend to drive quickly), depreciation and, I forgot, mileage is better than the previous model but is still so so.

This is my third Boxster S and replaces a '14 (981-series) with the PDK. I have also gotten many track laps in high-end rented 911 variants and a full hour at a Porsche Experience Center in a 2022 718 Spyder, so I'm no stranger to Porsche's "better" offerings. Gotta say that this car, which I ordered exactly to my tastes with Sport Chrono, Sport PASM, and Torque Vectoring, feels the best of the lot. The ride in all modes is surprisingly supple - way less jittery than the X73 suspension I had installed in the '14 Boxster S - but far, far more road adherent. The steering is amazingly direct which, along with the ride, imparts a feel for the road surface like no other car I have driven in the recent past. Cornering feel and grip give the sensation of limitless potential - I've pushed the car hard but so far courage has failed me before the car has - and that's with all the nannies engaged! Much ink has been spilled by the Porsche paparazzi and fanboys denigrating the engine note from the flat-4. Pure hokum, I say! I LOVE the sound this thing makes and prefer both the sound and the power delivery to the 918-series S by wide margins. The engine is growly and burbly and makes a lovely and satisfying mechanical sound. I would agree that the engine note is distinct, but it is just different, not worse. Don't believe the hype about the sound, particularly if you are considering coughing up big money for the 4.0 and don't plan to track the car. No doubt the 4.0 has more top-end but where are you going to use that? The '24 Boxster S is scary fast and way, way faster than the 981 S I previously owned, particularly under normal driving circumstances. The only slightly down note is that the 6 speed gearbox, while it feels lovely with nice short throws and very positive engagement, is a little rubbery from left to right. If I was going to kvetch about anything it'd be the gearbox, but heck, it's way more fun to row my own than to let the PDK bore me to tears again. The 6 speed gearing is rather odd - very long in 1st and 2nd and short in 5th and 6th - but not so odd as to be unpleasant. The creature comforts are nothing special but that is a good thing to me - every control in the '24 718 series Boxster S is in exactly the same spot as they were in the '14 981 series Boxster S. Apple Car play has been seamless so far and PCM still has a CD player so I don't have to chuck all my CD's. Zero regrets about buying this car. The 911 feels so much bigger and the 4.0 and RS versions of the 718 seem like they are more track focused that they would be overkill for me and I'd wager most people buying a car they intend to drive for the pure joy of it. The 718 Boxster S feels light, handles like a precision tool, makes a lovely sound, gets great mileage for what it is (road trip recently returned 26 driving 80+), and offers enough comfort and luxury to be special and characteristic. It is a simple perfect vehicle.

Great car, crappy warranty and roadside assistance

David W, 02/27/2024
2021 Porsche 718 Boxster 25 Years 2dr Convertible (4.0L 6cyl 6M)
1 of 3 people found this review helpful

I have a Boxster 25 years. Had three 911s before this (two 4S coupes, and one Targa S), all great cars. Have had the Boxster two years, bought it new. Less than 6 months ago the battery died. It died again yesterday. Had to replace two tires (I have the tire/wheel warranty). The car sat in the shop for two days while the dealership waited to get approval from Porsche to replace the battery. Why do they need approval from some cat in Germany to replace a part that is under warranty. The same thing happened with the last flat tire. As an owner/driver, I do not have control over the frequency of flat tires and failed batteries. Someone please tell me why in the heck, Porsche wants to piss off a loyal customer to get approval for replacing a part under warranty on a $100,000+ car? I had to wait 2.5 hours for roadside assistance the last time I had a flat tire; it took the shop two days to find a tire and replace my flat. The last time my battery died, I called AAA; they were there in 10 minutes, jumped me off, no charge. I have owned Hondas, Lexus, BMW, many Mercedes, and never had to wait for approval to replace a part under warranty. In addition they always had spare tires in stock; it's called inventory. I feel like this company is thumping me in the chest, just trying to piss me off, to see if I will take it. Well I am mad as hell and I am not going to take it anymore. This is my last new Porsche. I will buy used ones out of warranty so I do not have to see the dealer again or deal with the company's crappy service and warranty. Or maybe it will be a Corvette. Otherwise it is a great car. Great handling. Smooth acceleration. Great cornering. The controls are simple and perfect.

Incredibly balanced between the handling and power, you can still get into trouble but it’s difficult. I have the S , comes with a few extra goodies, very refined compared to the 07 Cayman S I had in the past. Fit and finish is outstanding, it is a Porsche, which you pay for….infotainment center drastically improved these last few years, couldn’t be happier overall.

Sublime handing, comfortable, much faster than expected, this is simply the best toy car I have ever owned. It is unfortunate that the dealer fraudulently used my social security number and personal information to sell other cars. I am still fighting with credit agencies to get my good name back more than a year later.
