Used 2020 Nissan Frontier Consumer Reviews
Don’t get a manual transmission
My son bought a brand Nissan Frontier 4x4 with a manually transmission. At around 30000 miles the clutch came apart. After a lot of arguing with the dealer they agreed to replace the parts but labor was not included. After the repair the Nissan manager told him he would never buy a Nissan truck with a manual transmission because of the mechanical problems. Apparently they forgot to tell my son that when he bought it new. He drove straight to the Toyota dealer to trade it in.

2020 Frontier SV Midnight 4x2
Everything is perfect but the seats are pitiful they have no lateral support and they are only 2 way unless you get PRO-4X. So if comfort is important then get the upscale model. I have a 2003 frontier and those seats do not hurt my back. It’s like they want to upsell people to get a Titan. It’s a shame in my opinion. Not worth $28,000. I am 6’0” and 165 pounds with slightly longer than average torso. This truck seriously lacks in comfort and I am trading it for a luxury sedan and will just use my old truck when I need a truck.

Known issue that Nissan Corporate won’t even fix
While streaming music from Spotify using my iPhone 8 Plus via Bluetooth, about every 4-10 songs the infotainment screen will freeze then reboot. 2 dealerships have looked at it a total of 4 times, with a total of over 2 weeks in the shop for this one issue. Now I’m told it’s a known problem between their stereo and the most common make of smartphone on the planet. There is no fix, and no timeframe for a fix. Frontier owner websites are rife with posts about the issue going back a year, so I’m not holding my breath for a fix. Both corporate and my local dealership are refusing to fix my truck that hasn’t even made it to the first oil change yet. This is the fifth and final new Nissan in my family.

Considering a New Nissan?
This truck has not changed since 2005 much. There have been some cosmetic changes yet those changes are small and not much of an enhancement. In fact this truck has the poorest interior of all midsize trucks. The engine is fantastic, I love the HP to torque ratios on this truck and the fully boxed frame. Cons are that there are sensor issues(fail before the part they sense), coolant mixing with the transmission giving the user huge bills, power train issues. Unfortunately, every mechanic I have taken this truck to seems to not know how to fix those issues either. Many parts have been replaced by my own hands. This is the frustrating part and in the end you spend a lot of money trying to repair this truck and the worst part is that Nissan dealerships are denying responsibility for any of those issues. They are ignored even though thousand I mean thousands(just google the truck you will see) are reporting transmission issues due to a part that is faulty and allows coolant to mix with transmission fluid. The heater inside the truck has never really worked for me either since I bought it new. It is unfortunate that many users are experiencing the same issues especially if they are safety issues. I do not recommend buying this truck unless youre ok with it lasting 10 years maximum. Do not buy if you plan to make it a long lasting vehicle. The interior seets are also causing me back issues due to how uncomfortable they are. Nissan has a real possible gem here but as long as they don't address and DENY these issues I would say DO NOT BUY this potentially bad ass truck! Months later I'm being asked to update this review and again, youll want to spend another 6K on a Toyota! Being asked again to update the review and it’s on its last leg 14 yrs running and recently replaced rotors, fan clutch, thermostat, spark plugs, and now my coils are going out one by one. Do Not purchase! These trucks dont last!!! UPDATE: There is a really nice new Frontier model coming out in 2022. Heed my warning, it is still a Nissan and likely to have all the same issues the previous frontier had. I talked to a guy with a Chevy and Ford pickup truck who had the same mileage and they had not replaced anything in their pickups other than the TPMS tire sensors. DO NOT BUY A NISSAN, I will never walk into another Nissan dealership! Update: 12/16/2022 I still use the truck and boy it’s nice to have it running. However, every year there are at least 2 major repairs needed on the truck. Since I bought the truck every year it has required one or two major repairs each year. I feel like I built the engine compartment with all the parts. Bottom line this truck was trash when I bought it and has not changed. These trucks do not age well. Inspect for rust on the frame under your Nissan when/if you buy as well. 6/18/2023 No change. 12/2024 I just replaced the power steering pump. Many frontiers are having the same issue and is because the power steering pump connector (nozzle that connects the suction/reservoir hose to the pump is faulty. So if you are leaking address it right away or it will ruin your alternator(like it did to my alternator) and starter. The PS pump connector I am referring to was not machined correctly so there is a slow steady leak coming from what appears to be the pump. Your pump is likely functioning, just check your fluid level and maintain a full level or replace the entire assembly. TO DATE: The last items to replace on the truck are the timing belt tensioners which NISSAN knew was faulty and denied fixing it. Well I’ve had my truck for 20 years and after year 1 those timing tensioners failed. I am still driving with failed tensioners and it whines like a wife. I hate that Nissan couldn’t fix this for me after the thousands I gave them and after they knew about it. I am so glad they are going down in business and the people have had it with NISSAN and no longer buying them. The American people got screwed badly by NISSAN and now they are paying up on all those class action law suits!!! Redemption is delicious!
