Constant engine light

My car has only about 30,000 miles and the engine light came on and they couldn’t diagnose the problem. I had an Acura for 235,000 and the light never came on. 2nd problem, there were a few times when the engine started after the stop, the entire infotainment system went blank and the car shut off. I’m so glad there were no cars behind me. The car dealer were the worst I’ve ever dealt with at the Mini Ontario California. I will never buy a Mini again.

MOSTLY all fun!

Pros: amazing handling, very punchy engine, very comfortable front seats and driving position (and I’m 6’1”) wonderful sound system. I live in the NE and it does surprisingly well in the snow. Very catchy and unique styling, I always get compliments on its looks. I had a BMW 3 series and similarly this car feels tighter and drives better at highway speeds. Overall, I really love it! Cons: the ride is definitely firm, no blind spot sensors is unfortunate living and driving mostly in the city. A few instances of CarPlay getting randomly disconnected and it’s a process to reconnect. Wish fuel economy in the city was a bit better and finally that the steering was more firm. The weight of the steering doesn’t match the power coming from the JCW model which overall makes the driving experience at higher speeds not as confident and fun as it should be.

Basic review, generally happy

It’s a good car. We were buying to add a mommy-only car. Looked for cute, white, and cheap with a manual transmission. Fortunately we found one that had been on the lot for 7 months and it was nearing the end of the month. They offered, we countered, met near the middle: negotiating! We had financing and insurance already lined up outside the dealership. Good credit and budget planning helped too.

Fantastic little car

This car is one of the most enjoyable drives I have ever owned. I ordered mine in the Orange with Black roof, no sunroof (I have had issues with sunroofs with multiple brands before). I have the 17 inch all black wheels, the HK sound system and the electronics package that includes the upgraded Cruise control and the pseudo self parking (which i still havent used). The power to weight in this little car is fantastic and the power delivery is great. Minimal turbo lag, mostly from a dead stop. But if you are in sport mode it mostly disappears. In the economy mode while driving across the southwest I get 30+ MPG (I averaged 35 on one tanks headed from Las Vegas to Phoenix) while still driving 75+. But this little car excels in tight roads, the tighter the better. Taking turns at high speed with little body lean, maintaining neutral steering with little to no pushing when getting aggressive. It is a fantastic little car to drive aggressively. Regarding the number one complaint I have heard, I must disagree. It is a firmer ride, yes. But i have driven my 50+ year old body on 1900 mile trips with no issue. The seats support you very well. Maybe the 18 inch wheels are firmer, i do not know. But with the 17s and a little extra sidewalls and the wonderful seat, I have had no issues with back discomfort, as opposed to some other "more comfortable" cars I have owned. No, its not a touring sedan. But its more comfortable than anything else in its class that i have driven. And again, its power, especially when already moving, is very good. This is the single most enjoyable (fun!) driving car I have ever owned, which includes Audi A4s and BMW 3 series. Unless you are driving on extended washboard roads this little guy is far more comfortable and far more fun that you have any reason to expect.

1st time Mini Cooper S owner

I Just bought a 2019 F56, mini cooper S sunroof hardtop from Carmax. I’m so pleased with the performance and handling. It came fully loaded and the Apple Play was an added bonus I had not anticipated. The interior has so much leg room up front for someone who’s 6’1”. However, those back seats are roomy enough for two smaller people just not good for a four person road trip. The control console and back up camera are well placed in the dash area. And it has all the entertainment gadgets to keep up with your music. You can program your cell phone for hands free operation. It has decent room in the hatch area for groceries, books, laptops and small packages. It has enough space for golf clubs if I fold the rear seats down. I can confidently say that the Mini Cooper S is BMW’s hidden little Hot Rod. It has great power, light body construction makes you feel like your pushing more than the rated 187hp. And, with proper modifications this lil Rocket can easily reach 300hp if this owner chooses to tune it further. It currently has leatherette racing style seats which was a bonus. It has 17” wheels and tires, 4-wheel disc brakes, ABS, auto light sensors and it has a lowered stance, so I’m not sure if the previous owners install a lowered spring kit, but it has a little attitude when parked and drives like a slot car on Disney rails. All-n-all, I love this little car. And I’m discovering the cult following and its popularity especially in the UK that mini coopers have. I’ve given the Mini to my daughter to drive to college and to her work and she’s discovering how much fun the Mini Cooper S is to drive. The ease of parking in smaller spaces compared to her last vehicle, and it’s great on gas. I love this Mini Cooper S. I’m noticing how mini cooper owners are a community of car enthusiasts. And, you have to be a bit of a Rock Star (as my daughter is) to flaunt this mildly custom Mini, especially when she pulls into a parking lot of an event she’s attending or hosting and all her friends drive Teslas, Hondas, Acuras, BMW’s and Mercedes. I love it. And she loves it too.
