2024 MINI Countryman Consumer Reviews

Fun, difference, enjoyable, but...
I've been a Honda/Acura guy for a long time. I was searching for a replacement for my Acura TSX and test drove the Countryman S. Loved it the second I drove it. Bought the Countryman S and love the ride, handling, space and look. The one single this that is terrible is the sport seats. The S came with sport seats which are fitted with pronounced side support for your back and base. The seats are EXTREMELY uncomfortable, hard and feels small. Totally ruined a fantastic car. Considering it's a BMW I'm highly disappointed. Really unfortunate as I love everything else and would recommend it. So buyer beware, do a special order and order the normal seats! Or maybe the won't bother you but be warned!

Unique & Fun Ride!
Stand out SUV unlike the other cookie cutter SUV’s on the market! Cabin space is small but that’s covered by my wife’s car, put the back seats down and I can still load up the latest Home Depot purchase. The inside tech is is fun, looks like no other, comfy ride and many bells and whistles at a competitive price. Plenty of compliments on this unique and fun ride, feel great about my purchase!

Love this car. Terrific fun to drive!
I'd love to find something I do not like about this car. For the money, the most fun to drive car I have ever owned. You can tell the powertrain is a BMW product - tight and spot on no matter what you ask of it. Interior a lot nicer than I expected with no defects, squeaks, or rattles. Mine is green with brown leather interior - classic and really beautiful. All the screens work flawlessly and the HUD is surprisingly useful - I had been afraid it was going to be a gimmick but it is far from it. The HK sterio is terrific with way more depth than I expected. Like I said, I want to find something wrong with this car, but I cannot. Get one as fast as you can and enjoy it like crazy!

Keeps getting better !
Could not be happier with my Mini Countryman. I am tall 6'5 and I fit very well. Fuel economy has been excellent, averaging 34 mpg. Quiet composed ride on the highway. Drove it 14 hours about 2 weeks after I purchased and it ran flawlessly. Well appointed cabin [ Iconic Trim ] Apple car play works great. Roomy for four, 5 is a pinch. With the run flat tires the storage under the back compartment is very useful. Back up camera is great, I turn off all the tech but the self park feature is pretty cool. Seats can be a bit uncomfortable for a long drive but have broken in nicely. This car is a BMW X1 with all the same mechanicals that costs $1,000's less, well done Mini. This car is very well put together, composed ride, just a great vehicle, this is the third mini I have owned

Cool ride with a green twist
So happy with my Mini PHEV. Heaps of charm and character and truly a driver's car. Safe and fuel efficient too if you charge it as often as you can. Everyone seems to like it. Not cheap but good value for money. Low tax if you choose the plug in hybrid. No range anxiety but charge and drive it wisely an you will use the soothing and quiet electric drivetrain a lot. Why the similarly priced Outlander sells so much better is one of life's mysteries.

Speed, good handling, comfort in one package
After two years or so I usually begin tiring of a car and look for excuses to buy something else. But after 27,000 miles and over two years I continue to enjoy this car every day. Not a single issue or expense (the first three oil changes are free) other than gas. Service has been easy to schedule and is very efficient. Interior doesn't show any sign of wear, nor does the exterior. It is squeak and rattle-free. This car is fast, comfortable and surprisingly roomy. Good on the highway and in-town, where we must navigate many narrow streets and squeeze into tight parking spaces. Tried out a brand new one when mine was in for services. It's bigger, for sure. But the interior is ugly in my opinion and it doesn't handle nearly as well as my '23. It may not have the go-cart handling of the smaller Minis, but it performs much better than direct competitors. It can run at 75-80 all day with good gas mileage (33+ mpg), has confidence-inspiring passing power and stealth speed from a standing start. Rear seats move back for more rear-passenger room and fold flat for hauling stuff. If you don't need it for big-box purchases or (guys) worry about your self image a lot, this is a great car to consider.

Used to like it more
Bought this as a third car to get around town and take the dog, so this is not a show car. I do get great gas mileage, but the overall maintenance is much greater than I had anticipated. I acquired the car with +/- 28000 miles. The battery when dead a few months later but fortunately is was under warrantee. I do have to travel about 2 hours to the closest dealer so that was a bit of a hassle. At +/- 36000 I took it in for required maintenance, oil change, etc. I was informed that the right front motor mount had broken. WOW! It's not as if I abuse the Mini, but really drive it quite safe and sanely. I have treated my Corvette a lot worse and have not had that type of issue. The dealer said this was a commonly known mechanical failure in BMW's and Mini's. He even showed me a box full of broken motor mounts. So I'm wondering what else is going to surprise me next. This is an update: I've not had any additional trouble and things are going okay. This vehicle has turned into the daily driver for all sorts of things but especially taking the dog for walks, hoping, etc. Gets good gas mileage and handles well. Winter is approaching so if like the last I have no fears of driving in the snow.

Fantastic Sporty Luxury SUV
Bought a CPO 2022 Mini Cooper Countryman JCW All4 off a two year lease. I owned a Mini Cooper in the past but this one is absolutely a fun and fast luxury compact suv to drive and ride in. Being a 4 door and having AWD make it a family car as well as a sporty vehicle to drive. I have had many people notice it and have referred a lot of them to the Mini Dealership. 4.2 seconds 0-60 plus a dynamic suspension make this vehicle just a joy and plain fun to drive. The 4 cylinder twin turbo in the sport mode make the acceleration unbelievable. The front sport leather seats with power and heating are the best I’ve ever sat in. Navigation, Sirius HK 12 speaker HD radio, Apple Play, and sizable circular display make this vehicle awesome. I am 70 years old and I will purchase Mini’s until I can’t drive anymore. Congrats to BMW for making a vehicle that is not only fun and fast to drive but gives an “old man” enjoyment and excitement to look forward to on every drive.

Low-mileage JCW!
I recently traded in my 2019 Cooper 2-door John Cooper Works for a very lightly used 2020 Countryman JCW. As much as it saddened me to let my (real) MINI go, I simply needed more space as this is my only vehicle. I know most buyers probably aren’t cross-shopping between these two models as they are very different cars in many ways. Hopefully, this review is helpful for someone like me- who loves MINI’s and driving fun cars, perhaps owns the 2-door but needs more space and wants to stay with MINI. First, they drive very similar. My Countryman rides MUCH better overall; less stiff and more forgiving over potholes and road imperfections. The Countryman definitely feels bigger and is not as fun to throw around on a twisty road. It’s TOO stable and planted. Also, the power puts down much more stable and seamless with the Countryman. It’s still very quick! But not significantly quicker even with 70 more HP than my 2-door given all the extra weight. My 2-door was certainly more nimble overall, but also a bit flinty. Good and bad depending on the road and traffic conditions. Takeaways here: The Countryman offers a lot of the same in a more livable all-round package. It’s surprisingly spacious and still very fun to drive. I’m looking forward to seeing how it does in the winter having AWD. I live in New England and my 2-door did not feel very stable during especially slippery conditions. Cons: they’re mostly the same as my 2-door- no blind spot monitoring in city traffic is a real drawback. Apple CarPlay is finicky at times. Sometimes it connects, sometimes it chooses not to. The bottom cushion of the sports seat is not comfortable after driving more than an hour or so. The bolstering is too aggressive and cuts into my legs. I’m 6’1 but thin. I imagine this would be very uncomfortable for a heavier and/or taller person. Maintenance costs are high, but my 2-door was very reliable in the 3 years I owned it, only ever needing routine maintenance. I’m hoping my Countryman will be the same. My insurance premium almost cut in half with the Countryman, go figure. There’s another pro to the switch! Overall, I’m happy with purchase! It’s funky but premium, stands out in a crowd and ultimately is a very fun car to drive if that’s a priority for you.

The best small crossover you can buy.
We’re on our second Mini and 3rd BMW product and I can’t say enough good about it. Motortrend gave this car a 6/10 but I think it’s more around 9.5/10/10. On the highway in green mode, I can get over 35 MPG which is actually insane for a car that can go 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. It does everything well. The Harman Kardon sound system is great as are the optional adaptive dampers. There’s a lot of folks that say it’s too harsh when driving, but I really only notice it being harsh while in Sport. In any other mode, it’s light and easy to drive. We are a couple in our 30’s with 2 dogs and it’s the perfect size. The ONLY complaint I have is turbo lag off the line. 10/10!!

Plug-In means High Miles per Gallon Please
Great around town transportation. If you install the home 220/50 AMP CHARGER it’s easy to get to 65+ MPG. Using the Green mode is fun because the just rolls! We are now 1 year into our ownership of the MINI Countryman PHEV and it continues to be a great performer in both low cost of ownership and pleasure to drive around town and short trips. With over 1 year driving both around town and multiple trips of 70 to 300 miles, including lots of freeway miles, we are averaging 64 MPG. In todays world that's pretty great!! If we have one complaint it's the multiple billing processes for chargers on the road.

Brakes replaced at 17k
The front brake pads needed to be replaced at 17k. The dealership said this was a "rally" car and the brake pads are thinner. I have never been to a rally with it and why can't they make brake pads that last longer???? I have a bad feeling the cost of ownership is going to be ridiculous on this thing.

Great ride!
Although the car looks small outside. It’s very spacious and comfortable inside. The car was in impeccable condition. I love it has various speed modes, so it’s like having 3 cars in one! I love it came with road assistance as an added perk for 1 year included and apple car play, so I have my cellphone available at my car’s touchscreen.

Bad Engine
My 2022 Mini has had a major engine failure with under 50k miles. Mini is declining to fix the issue due to "inconsistent oil changes". So we are repairing to trade on a Honda or Toyota - something we know we can depend on well past 50k miles. Will never purchase another Mini and recommend you read the reviews before you do as well.

Countryman S ALL4
Countryman S ALL4 has all the same characteristics and drivability built in as the smaller hardtops but is more practical. This being our 4th Mini this size and capability is by far the best one to date. Put the Countryman in Sport mode and you wouldn't know the difference!

Review of my 2023 Mini Countryman S All 4
I have owned the car for exactly one year and it has successfully checked all the boxes regarding my wish list. It's fun to drive, handles amazingly well, transmission is wonderfully matched to the engine, Engine responsiveness is excellent... not overpowered, but just right. Seats are comfortable. Some people may not like the stiff ride, but the tradeoff is amazing handling. With the back seats down, it fits a lot in it. Actually fits myself (6'3") and two adults in the rear seat comfortably (You can actually use it!). No adjustments required since delivery a year ago. Fit and trim are excellent and you can tell the car is well built and designed. LOVE IT!

A head turner!
I was parked listening to the radio, when I noticed people getting out of their cars and looking immediately at our blue with white racing stripes white roof and mirrors. This car really stands out. A fun driver. Great fit and finish, also quality workmanship through out. Fits nicely in the garage.

CR of my dreams!
No joke..absolutely love this car! It checks all the "boxes" for me. Comfort and style . Along with the beautiful details, it doesn't sit as low as the other models. Which is IMPORTANT with my bad knees. Easy in & out! The power is there too, when you need it.

It’s exactly what I expected.
Loads of fun to drive, premium feel, endless character, ample power, practical enough for my needs, and the Harman-Kardon fills the cabin with premium sound.

Not loving this car because of the technology
Fun to drive and hugs the road better than the countryman I had about 10 years ago - although I was disappointed that they don't make the Clubman anymore. Comfortable and has lots of interior space. Much larger, perhaps too large. Had wanted to downsize from my previous BMW X4 and this isn't feeling much smaller when it comes to moving and parking in a European city. My main issue is with the infotainment system. This car no longer has a physical central dial, easily found with your fingers in the central console to select media, GPS, etc., nor does it have physical buttons to turn the AC/heat up or down or turn on the radio. Someone thought it a brilliant idea to have everything in the infotainment system. That means that for every little adjustment you may desire, you must take your eyes away from the road and look at the screen trying to find what you need to adjust - also must be very precise with what you do touch because otherwise you are sent in the digital wrong direction. One needs to drive with a co-pilot. Furthermore, with the auto stop of the engine when the car is stopped, the car turns back on only when you push on the gas pedal, not when you take your foot off the brake. This makes for a very jerky start (unless you drive like an elderly person in no hurry I imagine). There is no easy physical button to turn this feature off, you have to go into "the system" each time you get into the car to turn this off - along with in my case - the warning button that you are going out of your lane and the speed limit control. This takes a few minutes of fiddling in the system every time you get in your car, even longer if someone opens a door while doing it.
