Nice, but with a few caveats

I’ve had my 2023 CX-50 preferred plus in polymetal gray for about 3 weeks now, and have about 1k miles on it. Here are my thoughts. The good: - Comfortable, even on long drives. - Excellent handling. Classic Mazda. - Build quality is solid. Much nicer than the alternatives at this price point. - Very surefooted. Haven’t done any significant off-roading yet, but zero problems so far on dirt roads and grass parking lots. - The dial controlled infotainment system has grown on me. Seemed weird at first, but it really is less distracting than the finicky touchscreen on my last car. - Plenty of room for four people, with a decent amount of trunk space. - The panoramic sunroof is a nice touch. Will get lots of use out of it once the weather cools off some. - Power with the base engine is perfectly adequate. The turbo would have been fun, but it’s certainly not a must-have for day to day use. The bad: - Fuel mileage has been kind of disappointing. Combined average (for me, about 2/3 city and 1/3 highway) struggles to break 24 mpg. Not catastrophic, but definitely under the EPA estimate. May try to feed it premium gas next tank to see if that makes a difference. - The Mazda Connect app is kind of awful. In theory, it should be helpful…but it doesn’t work consistently, and is slow as molasses even when it does work. If it were just telematics and marketing stuff, I wouldn’t care. But it’s the only way to use the remote start. Why couldn’t they have just put that function on the key fob?? - The road noise at highway speeds on some surfaces can get a little annoying. It’s not constant, so it might just be the OEM tires on rougher surfaces. But definitely take it up to highway speeds on your test drive to make sure it’s something you can live with.

Recently purchased the CX50 PFP non-turbo. Great value for the money. My 2nd Mazda, I had a CX5 a few years ago and mistakenly sold it. The CX50 to me looks better, rides as nice, good handling and adequate power and is returning 26.5 mpg combined. My two requirements were to reduce fuel costs and overall vehicle ownership cost. No issues at this point, although it’s only been 2 weeks. The infotainment took a few days to master and I do like the screen placement as I can see it without taking my eyes off the road. The center console controls fall right at hand and with practice become second nature. It’s not an off-roader but it can travel on gravel or unimproved roads with out issue. If you want a jeep, get a jeep. This is a great package add a cargo rack and take your bikes, kayak or paddle board on your next adventure. It’s 4 passenger, not 5, plenty of cargo room comfortable ride. Great looks inside and out. And great value with the Preferred Plus package.

I owned a 2023 CX-50 for 10 months. Premium plus model. Loved the way it looked....a real head turner! But I traded it in after 10 months due to all the issues. It had a sensor issue....I would get the engine malfunction message every few weeks. It would generally go off the next day, but it was annoying. Also, the sunroof and sunshade would not open or close. Lastly, about a third of the time I would try to open the back hatch, it wouldn't work....it would give a few quick beeps and not open. And yes, I know the vehicle must be unlocked for it to open. I finally gave up and traded it in on a 2024 CX-90. Fingers crossed I have better luck!

My wife bought a 2023 Mazda CX50 Turbo Premium. We have had it for 9 months. We live in a major city and it does mostly city driving. We do not drive off the pavement, but we wanted some ground clearance, because some streets flood here. My wife likes cars that have good acceleration and the CX50 Turbo is probably one of the fastest in this class. With the Turbo engine it does become more expensive than it's competition which are: Toyota RAV4, Honda CRV, Subaru Forrester and the Ford Bronco Sport. The Bronco Sport was the only other choice that had similar HP as the CX50, but the Ford is more utalitarian and off road while the Mazda feels more luxurious and performance oriented. Here are my likes and dislikes. Likes... 1. We love how it looks from the outside 2. We love the interior design 3. Interior materials like Nappa leather while having cooled and heated seats 4. Acceleration and handling(very torquee engine) 5. My wife likes the wireless android auto 6. Panoramic Sunroof Dislikes... 1. Steering too heavy and I have owned sports cars 2. Lack of cubbies and smaller cargo than the competition 3. Glovebox not useful as it is a slot style so when you open it the things just fall out 4. The ride is on the harder side, but it absorbs impacts much better than other cars 5. My car came with an annoying rattle while new from the passenger seatbelt pillar that the dealer has no idea how to get rid off. (This is just specific to my car) 6. The most annoying to me is that the seats bottom lack cushioning. After driving for an hour, my bottom will feel discomfort, so we will never take this car for long trips. Keep in mind that your experience might differ on this. Summary... We really like how this car drives, acceleration, handling and we can live with a stiffer ride. We love how it looks inside out too. I can accept that it is not as roomy as other cars too. But the seat bottom being too hard and that annoying rattle is not good for me. My wife drives this car and she notices the seat being hard but it is more acceptable for her. She would not have any problems buying another Mazda in the future, but their seats are not for me. I think Mazda are a little niche, so make sure that they are suitable for what you want as there are compromises to be made for the extra performance that they offer. Update: It has 22 months and everything holds still holds true. We finally were able to fix that rattle after multiple trips to the dealer and switching dealers. The dealer near me tried to fix it and after 3 tries they said that it is "COMMON OCURRANCE" for that car so they said they were NOT going to do anything about it. They said that it is not a Manufacturer's defect, but it happens a lot on that car. So I called MAZDA and they said that it should NOT rattle and then I called a different dealer 50 miles away and spoke to their Service Manager. Took it there and they FIXED it after 1 day. Excellent Service from them! Except that everything still holds true about the car. It's still an awesome car to drive, but not for long distance due to the harder seats.

CX-50 Turbo Premium is a Quality Ride

Just short of 3 Mos ownership. I love this Mazda The Terracotta leather interior looks great. Fit and finish looks very good coming from the new US Mazda - Toyota Plant. The engine and tranny are from the main Japan plant, known for quality and reliability. Ride is firm but not rough and handling is excellent. Turbo has plenty of power and allows for up to 3.5k towing capacity. Turbo also has an additional Towing driving mode. The Interior is comfortable and quiet and the Bose 12 speaker stereo is excellent. The infotainment system is fine no issues, some like the wide screen tv touch screen look this 10” display looks more elegant. So far so good but no one can yet weigh in on reliability but if fit finish is representative of build quality it should be good.

Brief update at 10,000+ miles. I really wouldn’t change anything I said below previously. I just returned home from a 1600 hundred mile two day trip in my F-150 XLT with extremely comfortable front seats and got into the Mazda; I thought I was riding a buckboard given how hard the seat was in comparison to the Ford. The heads up display stopped working and it took the dealer two weeks to get a replacement. Had it not been covered by warranty, the cost to replace it would have been about $1500 part and labor. Yikes! This car was chosen by my wife of 38 years replace a beloved 2014 Chevy Sonic we gave to a niece. The pluses are its good looks, optional features, and its power compared to the competition. The full time all wheel drive is a benefit we expect to take advantage from this winter in upstate New York. The handling is taut, as is the steering. I appreciate the 220+ horsepower with regular gas; the car is peppier than other similar cars I’ve driven, and 250+ hp is said to be available by using premium, but I didn’t see a noticeable difference with the single tank I tried. At eighty to ninety cents more a gallon in our area, I don’t expect to try it again anytime soon. Mileage is what I expected which is not great, but not terrible. I just did a 400 mile trip by myself at 65-80 mph highway driving and got an accurate 26.4 mpg measured by actual fuel used rather than the dashboard indicator. In fairness to this car, my other vehicles, chosen and driven primarily by me, are a 2023 Ford F-150 XLT and a 1995 S-Class Mercedes Benz. I may be too old for this car; the seats are too firm for long distance comfort, and the 20 inch wheels produce a harsher ride than the same size wheel on my F-150. That my pick-up truck rides softer and quieter than this car says a lot about both how far trucks have come and is a reasonable criticism of a car that is priced to be a premium ride over its competitors. My wife wanted all the bells and whistles so we opted for the very top of the trim levels; I was expecting more for $45K. By buying the top trim, we were forced to get 20 inch wheels; I can’t help buy feel this car would provide a softer ride with the smaller wheels and higher profile tires of the lesser trim. The heads-up display is only in this trim level. The cooled seats, in addition to heat, is nice to have. The stereo sound quality is good, but I need to drive it regularly to get used to the controls to change stations and bands. I preferred by old Sonic and my F-150 to change stations; both allow favorites from FM and Sirius on the same menu, this car has FM favorites on a different menu than Sirius favorites, which is just stupid. I’ve had difficulty with Apple CarPlay; it was getting disconnected for reasons I haven’t figured out. It’s supposed to be wireless, but I had my phone plugged in, because the wireless charging won’t work with my rubber case. Perhaps my Bluetooth hearing aids were interfering; I’m not sure but expect I will know more what the issue is by driving it more. This is the first vehicle I’ve owned with adaptive cruise control; I was angry that I couldn’t get it in my new F-150 without spending a fortune on a higher trim level I don’t need nor want to pay for. Initially, I like the feature a lot. Works very well on the NY Thruway although it may be fooled on tighter turns by being fooled by traffic in the other lane. Not a fan of the lane-keep assist; it seems too sensitive when I get close to the line. Can anyone explain to me why this car doesn’t have fog lamps even on the highest trim level??? The interior noise level is not terrible, but disappointing in a car at this price point. When a pick-up truck and a 28 year old Benz are both quieter, that’s not good. The lane change warning system is fine, but the old school smaller convex mirrors in my Sonic and previous F-150 were adequate to the task. If going high tech, then why not have the side cameras come on when using turn signals, like in Hyundais a couple of friends have? Also, what the hell is the point of fake exhaust noise? Even the turn signal clicks are produced electronically. Again, to be fair to this car, my wife test drove both this and the CX-5 and chose this. That car may have literally softened some of the criticisms I have of this car, but she picked the car with the firmer ride and I think, tighter steering. This car shouldn’t have 20 inch wheels, and since we own, rather than lease it, I may do something about it after I see how the car does in snow this winter. Depending on how the tires perform, I will consider swapping out the new all-season Michelin extreme snow rated tires I had on my Sonic on smaller wheels. We chose this car in part because of its good looks; I don’t expect to take it off road, but what I thought was somewhat unique isn’t really. It seems like every third car in parking lots is now a white, compact crossover and they all look a lot the same. After dinner the other night, my wife forgot we had come to the restaurant in our truck and freaked out that her now car had a scratch on it, but I pointed out that she was looking at a competitor’s version of the same basic car. I will update this review down the road.

Had my CX 50 PP for about a month. Love the vehicle. Drove from Texas to Colorado where it snowed on us for four days. The all wheel drive system handled the road conditions really well. It was an 11 1/2 hour drive and the car was very comfortable. I think Mazda did it great job with this vehicle. Couple nitpicky things that I think could be improved: 1 The infotainment system kind of sucks. It’s difficult to get used to it can be very annoying. 2 If you get a trim level where the seats are heated the steering wheel should be also. 3 A key fob that big should have two large buttons on each side and not four small on one side 4 you should also be able to start the vehicle with the fob not just the app 5 The app could use some improvements. Again nitpicky little stuff. I really love this vehicle and I’m really happy that I bought it just a couple little things that could use some work. Hate to sound like a whiner but these are just a couple thoughts

just became the very proud owner of my brand new cx-50 preferred plus in soul red,and i really like this suv.i really think some car owners are a bit nit-picky on certain things..i have the 17-inch wheels in black, which is what i wanted.i knew before i even test drove this vehicle that i didn't want the turbo,or the 20-inch wheels.mine rides smooth, and is quiet enough for me.i also have the standard 8-speaker stereo system, which is almost as good as the bose system in the hyundai i traded in for this vehicle.i do have a few minor gripes, but just takes getting used to..the tire monitor is on the mazda connect app,and so is the remote start.also, with the remote start, the vehicle shuts off anytime you unlock the back,or a door.also, you have to remember to set ventilation setting the night before,if you plan on using the remote the next morning.on the hyundai blue link,i was able to turn on my heated seats, and adjust interior temperature.like i said, just a few things, but nothing worth crying about.

I researched and researched SUVs, finally landed on the CX50 due to the great reviews from Car & Driver, Motortrend, Edmunds, etc. For the most part, I love it. It's gorgeous, great tech features, handles well. A couple of things prevented me from giving the SUV 5 stars, the biggest being that the heated/ventilated seats are not comfortable! There were so many things to get excited about during the short test drive that I missed the fact that the seats are hard! I bought it and was already on my drive home from the dealership before I began to notice that the seat felt like I was sitting on a board. Mazda ... you could do better than that! The other thing that I wish were different is that you can only use the remote start from the app on your phone. How hard would it have been to include that feature on the key fob as well? And there is more outside noise than I was expecting; at first I thought one of my windows must be open a bit but none were. I'm not sure if it is wind noise or road noise (I have the 20" tires and live in a rural area). These are not dealbreakers for me, I still love my CX50, like my title says ... it's Almost Perfect.

I love the color exterior and interior, the amber lights in the front at night. It looks like a luxury vehicle but something you can take off roading because of the trim. Love the darkness of the tires. I love the moon roof, the controls for the screen and the simple clean dashboard. I like how easy it is to put the seats down. The car has all the features I’ve wanted for safety and technology and it is all wheel drive which I need. It has sports mode to get me on the Highway quickly and off roading mode which is good because I like to go to the mountains and I live on a ranch. I like the wireless apple car play and that the charger is hidden in the middle console and there is a space for the cord to come out so it’s not bent or messy looking. I like how the middle console is easy to keep clean. I love the reflection screen of the speedometer and that screen tells you if someone is on either side of you. The back up camera is crisp and easy to use. I love the boze sound system and the motion sensing windshield wipers. The only thing is it doesn’t work super well with mist but I’m sure that’s pretty normal. I love the bar racks on top it makes it look cool but they whistle really loud when driving so I’ll have to take them off unless they’re being used which is fine. Then I wish the moon roof would open all the way but that’s ok. I love the air conditioned seats and the heating seats too. Wish the steering wheel did the same, maybe that’s on a different model. When I’m getting out of the car to go I’m really quick to like get gas or something I’ll leave it on and lock it since my dog is in there. When you come back the apple car play won’t hook back up. In my forester it would. That’s just a tiny but annoying but not a big problem and I wish the gas tank would hold like one more gallon but surprisingly I goes a while without needing gas. Good gas milage. So far so good!

I bought this CX-50 primarily because I enjoyed the way is drives. I actually look forward with eager anticipation to taking the car somewhere. However the car gives up the comforts and cushy ride in the trade for satisfying handling and control. The icing on the cake is the near premium interior.

We purchased this vehicle brand new with 5 miles as daily driver, wife and I work close to each other we carpool due to long commute. It's a very nice SUV Zircon Sand Metallic looks nice with terracotta interior. It was all good until I reached 47,000 miles. I have long commute to work 40 plus miles one way so I put lots of miles on vehicle mostly highway driving. Started having brake problems with both calipers leaked brake fluid $1,000 repair. Passenger seat got rip on the side bolster, low speed when driving on parking lot vehicle is bucking it's pretty annoying, when I am driving on parking I just keep the vehicle in manual mode 1st gear it does the trick. B pillar started coming apart there is slight gap on driver side. I had tailgate on occasion malfunction it would open half way and stop there was oil seepage inside tailgate dealer clean it off and said we could not replicate the problem. I highly recommend if you buy this vehicle get extended warranty otherwise you will be paying out of pocket for the repairs Mazda dealership nor Mazda USA don't care about customers.

I bought a 2023 CX-50 Turbo as an interim vehicle while waiting for an EV pickup truck. The local Ford dealers checked off the no-go box for the F-150 Lightning by jacking the price, just because they could. Now, I'll wait to see about a Silverado EV in its second model year. In two months I've taken the CX-50 on two long 9-hour road trips, with a fair amount of commuting and running errands. With 5K miles on the odometer, I think I have a good feel for the pros and cons... First off, I really enjoy the performance of the turbo engine. At full throttle it sounds great and it purrs at 75 mph. In Soul red, the car looks great and it has a nice stance with its 20" wheels (more about that later). Almost everything written about the interior and exterior design is true (very nice). As has been reported by others... the steering feel is extremely subjective. It's more like a sports car and can feel "darty" until you get used to it. I find that it only takes pressure to keep it pointed down the center of the lane. It's almost as though you need to overcome the centripetal force of the wheels to change directions. All in all, I'm getting used to it. On my last long road trip I averaged 30mpg, driving as I normally do (keeping up with the traffic), I put Premium+ gasoline in on the return trip and felt the added power - that seems to come on even smoother. OTOH, I only achieved 28.2 mpg. Relative to comfort - no complaints. I am pleasantly surprised at how good the radio sounds (I typically stream Pandora from my phone), and the cargo room is plenty good for my needs (I still have a Chevy Colorado for hauling larger items). For the cons... I hate the steering wheel, it has a very sharp radius right at the point (no pun intended) my palms rest on the wheel. What's wrong with a nice, meaty, round steering wheel?? I also dislike the lane keep assist as it does little to help keep the car centered and produces an annoying shudder when close to the shoulder lines. Not great. For many, the ride quality is too stiff, and it is for some road surfaces. For me, it's about 70/30 (love/hate). I love the way the car handles, and it's a dream on smooth roads. It really falls on its face on concrete surfaces, and the odd highway that has been paved over a concrete surface - the expansion joints WILL drive you crazy. All in all, I'm glad I bought the car. I got a decent discount and a 2.9% finance rate. I could have paid cash, but why bother with a rate that low? A very good car for car guys and gals. If your tush needs cush, you may need to shop elsewhere. Why have Americans gotten so soft?!!!

Great drive, not designed for short drivers

I bought a 2023 Mazda CX-50 2.5 S PREFERRED PLUS about a month ago. It’s a great drive but also a first edition so it’s a little quirky. I like it, but I don’t love it. I’m short but I’ve always been able to adjust a driver’s seat to fit me. I didn’t pick up on this problem during my test drive, so that’s on me. I have heated and ventilated seats, problem is, I’m sitting on a cushion!! I’m sitting on a cushion to get the visibility that I need as well as garage access swipe and pay windows. Oddly enough, even though I’m short, I also notice the lack of headroom. The key fob is big and flawed design. After finding my hatch open three different times (only alerted by app that it was open once), I bought a fab cover from Amazon, which seem to do the trick. The buttons are on the side and stick out, easily activated on accident. The car does drive like a dream! I’ve gotten used to the dial versus touchscreen for CarPlay. The app is pretty useless, thankfully, it’s free. Overall, really nice vehicle, I got the black edition, which is very sharp!

I’ve put about 4,000 miles on my CX-50 and love how it drives, especially how it handles on the twisties and sweepers. And all-good on the highway. Stiff but you know what’s going, feel connected. Same for the steering - it’s on the weighty side but to me, that’s a plus over almost all current cars/SUVs with their vague video-game feel - including Merc, BMW, especially Audi. Power is good but an updated ZF-style transmission would be a big plus and probably up the acceleration into Audi range. Current 6-speed seems a bit dated. My gripes: the seats look great but are very hard - I squirm around every 20-30 minutes. And they’re not very well bolstered for such a good handling vehicle. Not up to the standards of my last 2008 BMW. Knit-picks - when cold I get a light squeak like a trapped mouse in the steering column when steering lightly through like long sweepers. Once warm, squeak is gone. And after driving in wet then parking it overnight, the parking brake gives a disconcerting thump as if seized when reversing out of the garage the next day. Once moving it does’t repeat. Otherwise no problems, no complaints. Overall happy with the decision. While a half step down from BMW/Audi level, the price makes up for that gap.

Interior issues due to low quality

After only 15 months the driver seat developed a tear on the side in the fake leather that the body never even gets in contact with. Dealer will replace seat bottom but have to go through the process of approval and part ordering. Not sure what other defects will happen early on, but would steer clear from this car. Engine and transmission seem to be solid so far. Just seems corners have been cut on the interior. Wish I got a Honda/Acura. Never had issue with those in the past.

Good ride, tech needs some refinement

Great ride. Has 16,000 kms on it after 6 mos. For a larger Mazda it still has a hug the road feel. Exterior looks are eye catching until you get to the Chev Traverse taillights on the rear. Safety tech has a mind of it's own. Front collision avoidance/parking sensors works twice at the beginning of a day, after that it works when it wants to. Also i-stop is very slow to give the driver control, very slow throttle response after i-stop gives driver control, also tries to jerk the wheel back to TDC, when it engages. Mazda Canada still can't figure out what is wrong as no diagnostic errors show. This is my 5th Mazda over 40 years and lives up to Mazda expectations for drive, looks, and quality. A perfect SUV for a retired empty nesters.

I traded a 2019 rav4 for the new cx50. I loved how the rav looks but it was boring to drive and slow. I could never get comfortable in the seat. The cx50 is so much more fun, and I love the seat. I got the proffered plus to get the smaller black rims and avoid the piano black in the upper trim interiors. It’s quick, handles like a sports car more than an SUV, and I love the look of it. I wish Mazda made black emblems for this vehicle, but hopefully in time someone will. It’s a solid vehicle, the app is easy to use, and most importantly, it’s fun to drive which is missing in so many vehicles these days.

This is our first Mazda, and so far we are very impressed. The CX-50 checks off all the boxes for what we wanted. My wife wanted a car that was a little higher up and fun to drive. We love the styling, classy look, and the high-end feel to it. All the reviews say to buy the turbo, however we feel the base engine provides plenty of power. The information screen is not touch screen which would be nice, you control it with knobs which takes a while to figure out. That's rather minor though, overall we are very pleased.

Rough Ride and Issues with Rear Differential

I was very disappointed in the Mazda CX-50 crossover. I had the 2.5S preferred plus trim. After owning a Mazda 3 and driving the CX-5, the CX-50 was just not the same. There were issues with the rear differential making noises, which was fixed once, but only to return in 3 months. I saw similar posts in other reviews about this issue. I also thought the vehicle was rough to drive, feeling every bump it seemed. Although the vehicle had standard 17 inch tires, it was still rough. The steering also felt difficult, to make those simple parking lot manuevers was a task. Also, the inside of the vehicle had blind spots from the window framing and air bags structures I suppose, making visibility difficult. Honestly, it was like driving a truck, much more than I expected. There were little things also, like the outside mirror control (no knob), the A/C button in which I could not see the indicator, and the cup holders too far up, and poor gas mileage (AVF 25 MPG) There could have been an instrument display that combined the digital MPH and full gauge, rather than switching displays. I also had a wheel balance and front end alignment adjustment necessary. Too many things about the vehicle that I did not like.

This is my first SUV, after driving cars my whole life. I wanted something sporty and not too big. The Turbo power is great and I have plenty of room for myself. I love the looks and all the features my Premium Plus has. The seats are comfortable and I really like the wireless CarPlay. And it handles amazingly. That being said, I do agree with most reviews that the ride is a little bumpy. And the gas mileage isn’t great…I’m averaging about 22mpg on my commute. The only other wishlist item would be a full digital gauge display. The current one isn’t very customizable. But, overall, very happy with my choice!

I like the armrest better on this vehicle, than the CX 5. The reviews seem pretty good, so I test drove it. WHY IS THERE NO MENTION OF THE HORRIBLE DRIVER’S SEAT? It is like the 500 pound gorilla in the room. Talk about uncomfortable! The seats on the CX-50 ARE NOT THE SAME as the CX5! I sat in about five different ones, thinking there must be a mistake. The seat is extraordinarily thin and uncomfortable, and some even have a bump, right on your butt. This is not a secret. The sales people even acknowledge it. Long distance rides must be a horror show.

I test drove a Preferred Plus CX-50, but did not buy despite a $2,750 discount from MSRP. The seats are too uncomfortable. They're okay, but not comfy, for a 20 minute drive, but I'd hate to sit in them for 2 hours. I simply sat in a Premium Plus model and it's not that different in seat comfort. I drove SUVs from Mazda, Honda, Nissan and Toyota. Mazda is, by far, the most willing to give you a good deal.

I got this in March 2023. My son in law bought it new in Nov. 2022, but ended up getting a job where he could get free car charging, bought a Tesla and sold me this for his payoff (he's a great son in law!). I was about to enter the car market as our son was getting our 2011 Jetta (LOVED the diesel, 44mpg!), and we were shopping. I admit, the Mazda wasn't on our radar. I was looking at a Subaru Outback Wilderness or a RAV 4. We live in a very rural area & on a dirt road & steep hills & VERY snowy roads. I have had zero issues. Comfy on long trips. Good tech/interface w/iPhone. I love that it has real buttons for climate control; screen based is too clunky/hazardous for driving & changing settings. So far, great traction.

I test drove both turbo and non-turbo models. The turbo model was the best option for my needs. I did find the exterior stunning and had me reconsidering after dismissing the Mazda brand after my CX-5 experience. The cargo area has an advantage over the 2023 CRV -- it folds flat for cargo and possible a night inside when camping in the rain. I did find the interior (e.g. door panels, instruments, console, dashboard, etc.) very cheap with black plastic and white lettering. For this money, it should rival an Infinity QX-50 interior with soft, plush, and styling features. I will continue my search with Toyota RAV4 and Acura RDX up next.

The CX 50 is a nice car, however, it is lacking what Mazda is trying to portray as a premium product. There’s very little pocket storage anywhere in the vehicle. The B pillar is set forward too far and you hit it every time you get in the vehicle the recessed window wipers are a nice touch for a streamlined look however, they are a catchall for everything. The sunroof is horrible. There is so much road noise that you cannot drive with it open. What was the point? The transmission shift points could also use some work when taking a steep grade, the car hesitates to downshift to the proper gear. It’s definitely a sharp looking car but my old 2011 CX seven was better in my opinion for the price. Also, the climate control buttons are in an odd spot. You can’t tell when the AC is on or off because you can’t see the button illuminated. Why does it not come up on the digital screen like other models? The car came with eliminated sill plates that were an additional $500 add-on. The front ones illuminate but the rear ones don’t, so what’s the point?

I test drove the vehicle. I wasn't sure why this vehicle is on #1 list on car review websites. It has some quirks PRO: Good steering response, feel a bit sporty but not as good as BMW or AUDI. Nice interior. CON: somehow the brake is not precise it keeps slide forward when I hold the brake down then stop. The 20" tire can feel every bump on the road makes me feel like I am driving mini cooper also as advertise for off road capability with 20" tires I have the feeling that driving over sharp rock will easily punch the hole in the tire. The seat is really stiff, the one I drove is leather, I wasn't sure over time it will be stretch and soften or not but as the time of test drive my booty hurts. It sits like car maybe that's the tradeoff for gaining ground clearance comparing to CX5. I didn't buy the car as I didn't feel comfortable driving it.

The buttons on the side of the cheap plastic key fob will always press themselves when they touch anything in your pockets or your purse. I've been robbed 4x in the past year. Dozens of time's I've gone to my car during the winter to find the lift gate open and it's ice cold inside. Same thing happened in the summer which meant plenty of bugs. Don't reverse to park in a parking garage in this vehicle because the lift gate will open and get stuck to the concrete, damaging it every time you park in a garage. They took a decent vehicle and made it the worst vehicle I've ever been in because they don't know how to design a simple key fob. The center console that opens is also very cheaply made and doesn't function very well. Stay away unless you have an enormous property and you have a very long and tall garage where this won't matter to you (except when you leave of course).

The car has been bought for almost two years and has run 30,000 kilometers. On the third day of the first week after purchase, I found strange noises from the B-pillars on both sides. More than a year later, there were also strange noises near the dashboard. The steering wheel was easily worn as if it had been driven for many years. The quality is average, the power is good, but the quietness is not very good.

My wife and son have the CX-5 and a I have the CX-50. Coming from a Jeep Grand Cherokee they promoted it as an off-road vehicle. Although the CX-50 has three more inch clearance from the ground than the CX-5 the seats is three inches lower than the CX-5. This is something I did not realize until AFTER I purchased the CX-50 and started using it every day. I purchased the top tier package just below the turbo, so it has all the bells and whistles. The CX-50 does have more cargo space than the CX-5 with the back seats up. This is helpful as we are beach lovers, and I can fit all our beach gear in the CX-50. I cannot do it in the CX-5 without putting the back seats down. Even though the car is 3 inches higher than the CX-5 we feel that we sit lower in the CX-50 because the seats are lower. I miss the height of the Jeep. Both have great gas mileage so that is not an issue. The CX-5 does feel like a better made car than the CX-50. My purchase was done in haste as my Jeep, which I loved died and I needed a new car quick. I like the quality and the longevity of the Mazda so that is why I went back. If I had to do it all over again, I would have looked into another CX-5 or a Nissan Rough. After the fact I realized I could have gotten the Platinum package of the Nissan Rough for what I paid for the CX-50. Can't wait for the loan to be over so I can possibly start looking for a new vehicle. I'm not one to get new cars. My Jeep had 180K and the caravan before that had over 225K. I'll be looking to get rid of this asap when the loan ends.

Worst SUV Ever

I'm chocked by how Bad is the space in the back of this vehicle, just about the Worst I ever got into. I'm looking for an SUV to buy, and because of shortage and dealers abusing and overcharging by a lot, I have checked almost all 2023's trying to find one at the right price and that we like it, it's comfortable for a family, , good on gas, etc... so, I checked the Lexus UXh-250, Kona, Seltos, Tucson HEV, Sportage HEV, Eclipse Cross, Outlander PHEV, Rogue Sport/Qashqai, Rogue, Kicks, Rav4, Scape PHEV, Equinox, Buick Encore, Envision, Trailblazer, Equinox, Tiguan, Taos... By far the CX-50 is the Worst SUV out there for a family. It will be great if it is only for two people, front seat is great, great material, finishing, technology, name it, but, if you try to fit anyone in the back, unless is a small child, this vehicle is Useless, just about a nightmare. I'm only 5.5', my wife is even smaller, 4.9'and she complained about the space. I got in, to get out, I have do to side ways, couldn't get my feet out, it is so tight that my feet was kind of stuck under the front seat. I try to get in the middle, impossible, too small, couldn't get in the middle. Did they fired the Engineers for conceive this Horrible SUV? If they haven't yet, they should, this car is by fart the Worst for space in the second row, worst even the small cars, I have a Corolla and has plenty of space in the back, and if a small guys like me can't seat comfortably in the back, no one in North America can, since for a North America standards I'm very small. SUVs are meant to be a family vehicle and if you can fit anyone in the back, then this vehicle is Uselless.
