When I purchased this car I was under the impression that car's would continually be made to last longer and longer as technology improves. Well that does not appear to be the case and this is why it will be difficult to ever let go of my Mazda 3 SGT HB A . I appears many cars these days are built more cheaply than ever and have a planned obsolescence built in where sometime before 100k major issues arise which cause owners to " just get a new car " . Well thats bunk / because any good car manufacturer has the technology to build cars that can easily last 300k . They often wont , and pack the car full of technological garbage that they sell people on needing instead of using those resources to put better parts in areas of the car that matter, like the engine ...for starters. Self parking , blind spot intervention, etc etc are computers that cost $ , fail at some point , make it more likely something will break and ultimately make people worse drivers by letting them falsely think they dont need to pay attention or learn how to parallel park. Whats really happening is the consumer is paying the auto companies to do R&D on your nickel for the inevitability of self driving cars / anyway- This 2010 Mazda GT was indeed a rare bird that you will likely NEVER see again . Thats why I will never sell it . It was a car that was built to last and was sold right before all the tech stuff you dont need, would have automatically be on ANY car that was at the top of the option spectrum . My GT has leather, Bose , Sunroof , Led Lights and bluetooth ..Which just barely made it into that year . So where did the rest of the $$ to build a $24k car in this class go ? ( and mind you there were many cars $10-20K more that weren't built like this one ) - Alloy rims , yes , Sport suspension, yes and of course all the other handling tech that did improve driving and could be turned off DSC , Abs etc - But heres the kicker that blows the german cars and other 50k cars away - the engine - No not the most hp (167 ) not the best gas mileage 25mpg avg. but the bulletproof components that car makers have all but cut out to save $$ , because after all who keeps a car 300k miles ? ..I DO . Mazda had a well build 2.3 liter 4 cylinder 16 valve dohc that was being used in thier Mazda 3 successfuly for years . in 2010 Mazda had already began work and massive investment into thier skyactive systems which eventually were launched in 2013 . They needed to spruce up the existing Mazda 3 and make it good enough to last until the skyactive line launch in 2013 - So Mazda decided to give it a few nice body tweaks and then address one complaint of 3 owners prior to 2010 -power ! So to save $ they took the existing 2.3 in 2009 , bored to 89mm and stroked up to 100mm making that bad boy into a 2.5 ! pumping out about 17-20 more hp and more torque , but even better - they made it literally indestructible. They took thier aluminum alloy block and forged in 4340 steel molybdenum piston sleeves to reduce friction and deliver high-heat resistance - making this engines cooling fan seldom ever kick on . Since it was bored and stroked they upgraded to a forged steel crankshaft with 8 counterweights. There is a flexible joint between the crankshaft and the flywheel for resonances reduction at the middle and high revs (2,000-5,000 rpm) of the engine. The engine has a cassette type balancer unit as well. It has two balance shafts driven through a gear directly by the crankshaft. Bottom end also received forged powder-metal connecting rods and new aluminum pistons with graphite-coated skirts. !!! god damn !!!! Take that BMW ! The engine has an aluminum alloy cylinder head with four valves per cylinder. On top of the head, there are two overhead camshafts driven by a maintenance-free timing chain equipped with an automatic chain tensioner. The valvetrain has shimless, mechanical bucket tappets (no hydraulic tappets). Intake valve lift is 9.1 mm; exhaust valve lift is 7.8 mm. The 2.5-liter engine is equipped with variable valve timing system for the intake valves only (Mazda's Sequential Valve Timing or S-VT system). Like the 2.3, the 2.5 has a plastic variable length intake manifold. The system name is the Variable Induction System or VIS. The VIS provides long ports layout for low revs and short for high engine revs. Those manipulations increase the pulsing effect of the airflow and draw more air into the cylinder for better efficiency and performance. The 2.5 engine has an electronically controlled sequential, multi-point fuel injection and ignition system with individual direct ignition coils. The exhaust gases go through a stainless steel exhaust manifold/header with a heat-insulating layer and the catalytic converter. Unbelievablely reliable engine for a car that can be bought for under $20 k in the base model ! So the upshot is , that its one of the most trouble free reliable engines built by any car company and rivals the legendary 22re engine that toyota

This was my commuter car driving 60 miles per day until rear ended and totaled last week. The 2010 engine had good power for take-off and acceleration for a compact fuel efficient car. These cars are well balanced and handle well, especially when I replaced the front struts after 100,000 mi. You need to buy a $30 blue tooth adapter to plug into the stock sound system through the AUX port to use your smartphone but it works great. Replacing this car was difficult for the settlement I got. I wanted only another Mazda 3 or a Honda Civic. They both retain their after market values well. A low milage Civic fell in my lap so I am driving that now.

Tired of reviews from people who don't realize the full capability of the Mazda 3 S

2010 Mazda 3 s Sport 4dr Hatchback (2.5L 4cyl 5A)

I had been researching new cars under $25 grand for two close friends for almost the past two years. I had owned four new Mazda products in my life and had enjoyed each and every one of them. I had traded in my last Mazda, a 2000 Protégé ES, for my dream car which was the new 2005 Ford Mustang. Running errands on a day off during the workweek, I ran across a local Mazda dealership rotating their inventory on their lot. Someone was pulling a Crystal White Pearl Mica 3 S hatchback out of the showroom onto the lot. It caught my eye due to already having had the windows tinted. After finishing my errands, I headed back to the dealership and was approached by the sales lady while texting and sending pictures of the vehicle and window sticker to my friends. It was equipped with the Moonroof/Bose package as well as the 5-speed Sport Automatic transmission and had the black cloth interior. She talked me into taking it for a test drive even though I was not purchasing , only looking for my friends. needless to say, the test drive lasted over thirty minutes and consisted of various types of roads as well as taking it up on the interstate. As much as I had coveted my Ford Mustang, I was thoroughly impressed with the 2010 Mazda 3 S hatchback. So much so, that I left the lot in my new Mazda 3 S on September 8th of 2010. I have had my Mazda for over a year and waited until now, October 10, 2011 to write an accurate review. I have read many mixed reviews with, in my honest opinion, inaccurate information that I do want to clear up. First off, this is a COMPACT car. You need to sit in it, front and back to see if it is right size for you. There is no logical reason to try to put 10 pounds of lard in a 5 pound jar or to put a 12 foot tree in a room with an 8 foot high ceiling. Enough said. Second, it's not going to break the speed barrier. It has a 2.5 liter 152 cubic inch front wheel drive motor that only produces 167 horsepower@ 6000rpm and 168 foot pounds of torque @ 4000 rpm. Its a peppy 4-cylinder motor without a turbo. It will do 0-60 mph in approximately 7.5 to 8.5 seconds depending on having the manual or automatic transmission. If you "need" something quicker the MAZDASPEED 3 is the version for what you want with a turbocharged 2.3 liter 263 hp @5500 rpm with a 6-speed manual. Mazda has this covered for you. Do you really need something quicker? My 2005 Mustang with the 4.0 liter V6 with cold air intake got 17 mpg to 25 mpg and it was running around 225 horsepower at a curb weight of 3300 lbs. On the interstate my Mustang could keep up with a new 2010 Shelby Mustang at twice the price to it's owners dislike. This isn't the Autobahn, so once you are at highway speed a quicker 0-60 and higher top end is irrelevant. It has more than enough power to merge with traffic both on and off the interstate. On an emergency trip to our local vet hospital, I was more than impressed with not only it's speed, but also it's stability and handling. Third, gas mileage is rated at 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway for the automatic that I have. I only commute approximately 8 miles each way daily to work and the majority of the time I take the twisty back road where the trip is more "enjoyable". I average 25 mpg. I have gotten as high as 32 mpg on a trip with both interstate as well as bumper to bumper traffic to nearby Pigeon Forge in the Great Smoky Mountains. Curb weight for the Mazda 3 S hatchback with automatic is 3105 pounds. I am quite happy with my gas mileage with my Mazda. You can drive it like a miser or drive it like you stole it. Either way, I enjoy the ride. Fourth, complaints over the size of the NAVIGATION screen. Although mine does not have navigation, the Tom Tom as well as the Garmin have the same size screen. Mazda just places it in the dash for less glare. I can't see justifying the cost where it is included in a package. Fifth, speaking of electronic features in my Mazda 3 S and many car magazine editors reviews of those features, I just have to say this, you are totally unaware of just what all this car will do for you and you have too many cars to drive at one time. With the Bluetooth feature, it synced up perfectly and easily with my iPhone 3GS. Controls on the left side of the steering wheel will not only answer and disconnect the call for you, but it can initialize a call by voice commands by speaking the number or by programming in your favorite numbers to call. You can also increase or decrease the volume of calls as well as the audio system here. Criticisms over the USB being an extra cost option, with the iPhone it connects thru the stereo via the Bluetooth feature sounding as if it was hardwired into the stereo. There is also a button on the left side of the steering wheel to scroll thru your favorite channel settings next to the volume button. Sixth, winter traction in snow with the factory tires. I read so many negative reviews, I figured that someone, especially someone that worked for an automotive magazine would know how to effectively drive in the snow. Due to having 17 inch tires, snow tires in that size were not an option so I purchased a set of low profile tire chains for under $100. Needless to say, I did practice installing them so that I would be ready in case I needed them, which I do recommend. I did not have to use them when driving in 4 to 6 inches of snow. If you drive according to the weather and road conditions, you should have no problems getting to your destination in the Mazda 3.

Further update to my reviews below...now done 83k miles. I fixed the annoying squeak! It was 2 plastic clips under the headliner touching the rear window. I broke them off using a wall scraper. Apparently it was a random error at the factory that left them there after production. I now have a car that is better than when I bought it. WOOHOO. Still no issues at all, just flew through it's latest inspection no problems. I still think the design looks cool even against brand new cars...it doesn't look like a 7 year old design. An update to my review below now that it's got 75k miles. I have done 30k miles in 3 years and so far have had no issues at all with reliability. The car runs like it is brand new, the transmission is extremely smooth shifting. The interior still looks great and materials are holding up very well. All I have done is change 2 front tires, the oil and other fluids. The one thing that really bugs me though is a squeaky back shelf when it is cold outside. It is very very annoying and very loud and I cannot figure out how to stop it. Maybe it's a simple fix but I haven't figured it out. The drive in incredible - extemely responsive, very nimble handling and is quick when you want it to be. The tiptronic manual option is a real blast to use. I'd buy this car again if only for the squeaky shelf - but I plan on giving it to my kids in a couple of year as I think it will be a very safe first car. The car is 6 years old, but the design was ahead of the curve, so it still looks like a new car design. I bought the Mazda with 34k miles on the clock. It has all the bells and whistles...sat nav, bose, keyless entry, zenon, bucket seats etc. I have now done about 10,000 miles without a single issue. I hope to have this car for at least another 100k miles...perhaps pass it onto my kids when they are old enough to drive. It feels incredibly safe, very assured on the road and pretty sporty. It'’s no race car but it really handles well and has create torque when you put your foot down. I looked at all sorts of other cars first…golf, accord, mini, jetter, passat, hyundai's etc…none came close to the reviews this got…which is why I bought it.

I purchased a 2010 mazda 3 hatchback on 5/31/09. Car was driven for only two days and had problems w/ the clutch disc. Dealer repaired the issue then drove the car the next day. Car just stopped in the middle of the road and will not move, this time dealer ended up changing the clutch and transmission. To make the long story short I opted for a collateral exchange with the same model and specification as the 1st car I purchased.I got a 2nd car, after driving it for 2 weeks, car broke down again bec of the burnt clutch.I have driven a manual stick shift car for almost 20 years and this problem never happened to my Accord and Acura.I opted for lawyer representation bec Mazda won't fix the issue

Great Compact Car

I purchased my Mazda3 Used with around 60k miles on it. I am about to pay it off and purchase a new vehicle but I got great use out of it both daily commute and road trips. It has about 170k miles on it and still runs great. A few issues arose with age but nothing serious and I will share those at the end. PROS: Great Gas Milage!!! Reasonably Roomy for such a small car. My last car was slightly bigger but did not have back doors and the back seat in that seemed way tighter than this one. Pretty Durable - I will go over the issues that arose with age but I never had any serious issues, breakdowns, etc. no expensive repairs were ever needed for this car. CONS: For some reason, the blind spots in this could be pretty brutal. In the first few years of ownership I inadvertently cut people off pretty bad when merging lanes. I just learned to be extra cautious and really leaning to look both in mirrors and turning my head when I am merging in traffic situations. It just seems where the seams between the front and back doors are in this car can really block your vision. My previous car was a 2 door with large windows (comparatively) so it may just be that I wasn't used to it. The ABS easily goes off if you are breaking during hitting a bump or pothole. Sometimes it affects breaking for days after this happens. The breaks get really loose when its triggered making you have to push really deep to stop. One time I even spent money to have it towed because I thought my breaks went out! It just goes back to normal over time for some reason. Issues: Once again, the car never needed extensive repairs but has slowly showed its age. Here are the issues that occurred and an estimate of when they happened. 100k miles - Motor Mount. Likely happened during hitting a pothole, was leaking and car began to vibrate a bit when operating. I never repaired it as it didn't cause serious issues. 120k miles - Rotors needed to be replaced. They got warped and car started vibrating at high speeds and during breaking. 120k Lost a tire during morning commute due to sensor valve stem going bad. Same issue happened again at 170k. For both the housing broke and the tire emptied while driving. No clue what caused this but it happened twice. I also cannot be sure these were OEM or not. 150k A/C stopped working. I thought freon was running out so I added some, did nothing. I have not gotten around to repairing this. 140k I think this is something to do with age, but dashboard mat has really lost its durability. I have had a small dog the entire time I have had this car, and she has always liked jumping up with her front paws, leaning onto the passenger dashboard. Within the past 8 months or so, her nails have really started to scratch this and leave big gouges in the dash mat which looks horrible. This might have to do with having no AC as it is much warmer in the car on hot summer days. This was never an issue until this year. Anyhow I really enjoyed this car and will soon be replacing it but I thought I would leave a review for how it has performed at higher milage. still runs great!

I leased my 2010 Mazda 3 Hatchback 2.5s with Moons and Tunes package in Oct 2010. It has been three awesome years of fun ride. Good: Excellent handling in curves (here in Portland) and really grips well to the road. Very good torque and performance. Overall very good styling in the exterior and the interior. One amazing ride for the price Not so good: Bluetooth could handle adding contacts better. Gas Mileage for a car of this size is not great. I averaged 23/24 over 3 years. High Road Noise which bugged be a bit. The Bose sound helped tune it out, but still it was louder than some other cars I have owners. Not engine noise, but mostly road noise, esp from Tires. Overall- Thumbs Up

I have a 2010 Mazda 3 gt with the 2.5L 6 speed standard, bought it in 2012 with 80k on it. It now has over 440km and counting and has never had any major issues what so ever! I did very little work to it if any all the way until about 350-400k and then just regular stuff like shocks and struts, no big deal. Motor still runs strong tranny and clutch are solid! Only negative is the camber that Mazda puts in the rear end to maleness it feel “sporty”. If your running HWYs your tires do not last! Just chews through tires, it does however help if you get an alignment from a shop other then a Mazda dealer as they will put its back to stock which is no good.

My first two cars were rather large American sedans. A 2001 Chevy Impala and a 2005 Ford Taurus. I decided I wanted something smaller when I suddenly needed a new car in 2013 due to gas prices. I'd always been smitten with the Zoom-Zoom ethos of Mazda's and had liked the styling of the Mazda 3. I didn't have time to wait/search for the hatchback I really wanted, so I settled for a rental-fleet Mazda 3 i Sport. It has been an absolutely wonderful little car. Always starts up straight away. It's not a rocket, and you need to be generous with the throttle when merging/passing on highways, but it has more than enough pep. The handling is wonderful, fun and forgiving. It took me some time to get used to the amount of road feedback that comes through the 3's steering wheel, especially compared to the American boats I drove before. Bad weather handling is also great, especially for such a small, light sedan. The inside is a tad sparse, but everything fits well, and the front seats are comfortable. Getting 4 or 5 adults in the car at once, even if we're all average size, is a squeeze. It's not too bad for short trips around town, but it would not be fun for two guys over 5'10" to ride tandem on a trip of any length. The two things I really wish my car had are power door locks (but it did come with power windows, oddly enough) and cruise control (I will never again get a car without it after having had the displeasure of multiple between New york and New Orleans). That being said, it's a decent car for long trips, tire roar can be a bit loud over 55 mph, but turning up the radio helps. All in all, it's a wonderful little car, that's been great and very reliable so far.

I am the original and only owner of this car, which I bought in the summer of 2010. I wanted a car that was somewhat "pimped out" (reference to the MTV show, Pimp My Ride) from the factory and was fun to drive without being priced higher than the middle $20K. After looking at and test driving various sporty (and affordable) cars, the Mazda's interior, handling, reliability record, and it being fun to drive won me over. I use the car mostly to commute to and from work and it makes the commute much more enjoyable than when I was driving my previous car (Honda Civic). My Mazda handles well; has a tight turning radius that makes it easy to park (or do a U-turn); can more than handle two bags of golf clubs, two backpacks, and two large suitcases (when a rear seat is down); has really comfortable seats and reliable bluetooth; and gives me good feedback regarding my average miles per gallon. My maintenance costs have been great. I am shorter than average and the driver's seat easily adjusts for me as well as my husband who is average height.

catastrophic clutch failure at 14k miles

I've really enjoyed driving this car. I've driven two manual hondas, one subaru and an old datsun. Never any clutch problems. My 2010 Mazda 3 had a tight clutch one day, and then in the course of a day and a half, the clutch engaged the gear only partially--losing power--and finally, with a snapping sound, no power at all. Miriam Stevens (at Mazda North America Customer Care) gave the impression that Mazda does not care about premature clutch failures on this car. I mentioned the many web-postings about customers with similar clutch failures that appear out of nowhere, ending in sudden failure. This issue is not the result of wear and tear. Want to call lawyer.

Bought the Mazda3 simply because it was great on mileage, something my Jeep Liberty wasn't. On a full tank of gas, which is about 375 miles in the Mazda, I'm saving $50 every time I fill up. It's a much smaller vehicle, granted, but that's a huge difference. And as fun as the Jeep was to drive, this is close, and that's saying something. It's quick, it's stylish and comfortable enough. I looked at every other car in its class, and the Mazda3 not only looks better and got better ratings but it's cheaper overall than all of them. Like many other small cars, it has its drawbacks. It's a tight car, but trunk space is good. But i'd definitely recommend it.

Most reviewers for this car seem very content. After owning this M3 for nearly a year I am in that camp. If I ever run into one of those "discontents" I would gladly take the car off their hands at a deep discount for my son or daughter. Handling is superb...power from the 2 liter is fine for my needs...mileage has been decent, not great. Car has done very well in snow and slippery conditions due to esc, traction control, abs. Very well designed body for high wind stability. Ride is rather busy around town due to tight suspension but that's the way sporty cars feel.My wife's 2009 Mazda 6 is much smoother so we use it on big trips. Love that car too. Rear bumper scratches easily in parkin

I have revirewed my 2008 versus this 2010 and already have concluded it just that much better. I will focus on the passing of time, servicing and performance continuity. I replaced the Avid-Yoko's which I found on the harsh side like the previous 08-09 suspension set-ups but slightly more ameinable to all-around driving with a bias towards all-out sports car tuned firmness. I installed Bridestones new Pole Position S-04's and even though the overall tire is heavier at 70-90mph this car is silent and super-stable at 85 I'm turning 2900 rpms and its not even breathing hard -this damn 2.5 wants to be ridden to 120+ and sprout wings. Everyting else is tight and right ! Just oil/filter and gas .

2010 Mazda 3 Sedan. Beware of Transmission!

For the price and class of car, we had been pretty satisfied overall with our 2010 Mazda 3, 2.5L automatic Sport Sedan. It really is zippy..zoom zoom. It was always on the noisy side, but that wasn't a big deal. Why my family and I are breaking up with Mazda...after only 5-6 years, 95,000 miles, the transmission failed. Most cars are lasting well past 140,000 miles before having any serious problems. And if you are wondering, Yes, we followed Mazda's advised servicing/maintenance. As a comparison/data point, I had a 1997 Honda Accord with 165,000 miles that never had a transmission problem or any other significant problem, which we replaced in 2010 for the Mazda 3... We enjoyed the 5-6 years, but paying $3000 - $4000 to replace a transmission after such a short time is completely unacceptable. I do not consider this reliable. So, now we are faced with either buying a new car, or paying for the repair...either way, we are out a lot of money... And i called Mazda Customer Service...they were very polite about letting me know that I would receive NO support from them. We won't be buying a Mazda for a very long time.

Mine is the 5 door Grand Touring Edition - loaded

My first Mazda - (Toyota person for many years) Bought it with 43,000 miles in June 2015 and it now has 75,000 miles. Zero problems, pretty sure mine is as max-loaded as it gets? Even leather. Mine is Grand Touring Edition black with black leather. I do not like the "smile" of the grill design and the black body color erases this common styling complaint, so for that, I feel fortunate. My first car with blue-tooth and I use it for phone and music. My wife and I use it primarily as a once per week "grocery getter" to the city. I have had the back seats folded-down since day one and use it like a little "go-kart mini-van".. I love the headlights that self-adjust and turn when cornering. The 10 speaker BOSE sound system is incredible. At 60,000 miles first replacement set of tires. I do my own oil changes every 5,000 miles and use synthetic. I will miss this car, am handing-it-down to a Niece this month of June 2020. For a ten-year-old car, it still holds-up with the features of the new models.

I have had six - yes, six - Mazda 3s. All were manuals. Four were 3i and two 3s. 5 sedans and now this 2010 3s hatchback. There are not enough superlatives to describe how this car drives. Not a better manual tranny/clutch combo on the planet for cars under 40 grand. Definitely, the best car for the buck I've run into in my lifetime and I'm 62. One can only remark: "How can a car this good be so cheap." Buy this car for the suspension, the tranny, the clutch, the brakes, the steering, the handling, the cornering and to heck with everything else - it doesn't matter. that's enough! All one need do is upgrade the tires and you have an econo-box supercar.

Yes its been 2 years since my 2010 was purchased as I traded my 2008 . This car has not failed to continue keeping me looking forward to my next drive . Its broken in properly as I polled the white tape off the paint myself with 2 miles on the odometer. I see people that have cars they complain about and usuall with a car this solid built 100% in Japan there 1 of 2 things going on here . #1 they work for Toyota or Honda and hate Mazdas becuase they rock the socks off those granny mobiles or you bought a Mazda with 10-15 demos thats been hammered into hell by the salespeople and non-buyers that just want to floof a new car and ruin the engine by doing so .These are top notch rides

I bought my 2010 certified pre-owned Mazda 3 in 2012. It was top of the line with blue tooth, Bose audio, sun roof - all the fun gadgets. I had to get new brakes first year - not a big deal. In the Spring of 2016 my GPS screen went blank. Dealership said Mazda had discontinued that specific GPS model and it was going to cost 3k to replace the screen. I decided I could live without the system. Fast forward to December 2016 - I had just replaced my second battery in a year and decided something was majorly wrong with the car and had an electronic specialist car shop look at it. It took 2 weeks just to diagnose the problem because the computer system is so complicated and intertwined. Turns out a small but crucial part of the computer system had a major short and was draining the battery 2 amps - hence the battery replacement twice this year. Turns out the part will cost $3500 plus labor - over 5k to replace. Decided it wasn't worth pouring that kind of money in to a 2010 and will now sell for 3k while still owing 17K on the car. I now hate the car I once loved. Building a car so the electronic system is all one piece and cannot be easily repaired is a real hardship when the thing stops working. I will never buy a Mazda again.

Coming from a mid-size V-6 sedan I was concerned if I would be able to adjust to a smaller car w/ 4-cyl engine. After 7 weeks and 1500 miles I have no more worries about this. The front seats are comfortable and will be fine for most people as long as you're not too tall or heavy. The rear seats are only good for SMALL people or pets. This car has a lot of bang for the buck--tight build quality, well balanced ride, lots of features and good quality materials throughout the vehicle. It looks more expensive than it is--especially the "s" models with the 2.5L engine which have upgraded interior and exterior materials and features.

In short, it's a lot of fun to drive. There are definitely other cars that have more power and finer materials. However, you'll have to pay more money to reach into that pot of gold. And, regardless of price range, few cars can handle the nimbleness of a Mazda 3. If you don't care about your driving experience, a Civic or a Corolla might be better. But, for anyone who likes to drive for fun, this car should definitely be on your list.

Love this car! Accelerates fast, getting 31 mpg, corners great, and... handles accidents well! Plus, mine has push button start, awesome! Going to the gym, throw my keys in my gym bag, & leave them there. Push the button to start, while the bag is sitting on the front passenger seat! I've driven the Dodge Challenger for a day trip; and performance wise, 3 big differences. Mazda gets better gas mileage, and corners better. The Challenger travels at 95 mph better. (At 65/70 MPH, they're the same.) Oh, and I backed into another car, got a 3 inch dent in my bumper. But it's plastic, so pushed/popped it out. Now looks like a light scratch on my bumper, instead of a huge dent!

Economy Car not easy on the Wallet

I was the second owner of this vehicle. Bought it because my Explorer needed to be replaced after 210,000 miles. At first I really enjoyed the car. It was zippy and handled really well for its economy car roots. Then little things started to happen, strange flicker in the lights, BT connectivity issues. I thought it was just because I was the second owner of the vehicle that these things were happening. Purchased the car with 30,000 miles on it and “new tires!” well, those new tires needed to be replaced after 20,000 miles. Why? Because the camber of the wheels causes intense inside wear. Your tires look great on the outside, plenty of tread, then the inside is worn down to the steel. Did some research and it’s a very common issue. Fixed that concern with an adjustable camber kit to bring the wheels to Zero Degree. About 10,000 miles later, my motor mounts go out and spew fluid all over the engine bay. After that my headlights stopped working because of the wiring. Then, my dashboard started to melt, yes melt. It was sticky and actually forming itself around the A pillar. This was supposed to be covered under a recall, but every time I contacted Mazda about it, they kept saying there were no parts available yet. Next the transmission started to slip gears. That was it for me, traded the car in at 95,000 miles because I didn’t want to deal with it anymore. Little disappointed in the fuel economy too. My V6 Explorer averaged 21 MPG mixed, this little car got 24 MPG mixed. The insurance was more expensive too.

I have had my Mazda 3 sedan for about 6 months. I wish I had bought something else but I needed a car so. The gps is sub par ( a tom tom is just as good) it needs a rear window wiper. It's under powered and hesitates at freeway speed when you need to accelerate quickly. The power Windows have already failed. The wheels seem to be wearing unevenly. All this mind you is a car less than a year old. Gas mileage is consistently lower than most estimates. Ok I live in California where I do mostly freeway driving. The ride is rough and somewhat noisy.

Peppy good sized car. Only major repair was the ECM, but I have a lot of miles on my car, currently 145,000. Still looks new and current. Great acceleration from the start. Will maintain 80 mph easily on the interstate. Fun to drive! At 160,000 miles and still rolling good, I got new car fever and jumped up quite a bit to a new Genesis G-80. I would still highly recommend the Mazda 3, good gas mileage and very reliable.

Nimbal to drive. Easy to drive and park in city and urban areas. Road noise from rear tires can be annoying on long trips. Fuel economy is good. Three maintenance issues in 118000 miles. Anti lock breaking computer changed at 65k miles. Motor mounts had to be replaced at around 85k miles. Automatic transmission fluid takes a beating and needs to be changed every 50k miles (when it begins to turn brown in color.

I compared this ride to the Honda Civic, Toyota Matrix, and Scion xB. Test drove all of them... saving the Mazda for last. What did the Mazda do that the other cars did not? It put a big fat smile on my face. I had to leave the dealer, knowing that I could not negotiate for this car... at the moment (I wanted it too much!) It's an excellent value for under $20K. Great attention to detail, excellent interior, fantastic to drive. The Dynamic Stability Control is awesome, turn it off to squeal tires...and to really feel the difference it makes! Love the ways it says "zoom-zoom" when I get in... then... "hello" when I turn it on.... then "goodbye" when I leave. LoL.

Okay, so at 62 I'm a little outside the core demographic, but who cares. This thing rocks. Highest grin factor since my 1972 Capri V6. But Mazdas are supposed to be like that. What has completely blown me away is the rock solid structure and superb build quality. Wow, what a car. Mileage so far is at 24.5, with a best of 29.9 and worst 20.5, about what I expected. It should improve as I get more miles on it, and if I can keep my foot out of it (nah).

I love this car! I considered an Audi A3 TDI, which was easily $15K more, but am ecstatic I got the Mazda3. More Money does not equal a better car! My Mazda3 has the technology package and moon & tune package, so I am smiling all the way to work. It performs pretty well, and has awesome cornering. However, downshifting can sometimes be slow. But that is the only mediocrity I have with the car. My mileage varies from 25 - 28 depending on how much highway driving I do. But that is something I expected before buying. The technology package rocks! I don't mind the navigation screen size, and love the bluetooth audio streaming. Very comfortable all around, and hints of high quality material.

Originally was going to buy a 3 but upgraded to the itouring and it was a wise decision. This car is a solid performer and since purchasing it new, only regular mainenance has been done and no warranty work has been necessary. I have owned full size SUV's and was surprised to see what I can load in this Mazda with the rear seats folded down. it has a wide opening when the truck is opened up. I enjoy going to manual shift and pushing this vehicle to the limits on tight turns. This car has a very good feel for the road and fun to drive. The cabin tends to be a bit noise at highway speeds but the stereo can automatically adjust the volume to changing speeds which is a nice option.

I agree with a lot of the reviews of this terrific little car. I previously owned a BMW 3 series, for ten years, and so I am used to great handling and a few creature comforts indoors. This car, so much less expensive (which in this economy was important for me) made me feel right at home, right away. So fun to drive, I dont want to arrive home. In fact, I drive slower just to prolong the joy. This is my take on the car and believe me I am not prone to giving excessive praise to anything or anybody.

I recently traded in my 2011 Mazda2 for a 2012 Mazda3, was a fantastic choice since the 2 is garbage. Then traded the 2012 3 for a 2010 for a little more miles and a lot less money. I got the car with 30k miles on it, all maintenance touched up, and a better deal. From what I know about the newer model I have high hopes for this one. The gas mpg is little shotty after driving the Skyactive engine, but it is even more fun to drive, with better handling. I love the Mazda3, it's truly a unique sedan in this day and age.

I have to start this review by saying that this car is just plain fun to drive! It will make your morning commute a happy time. The interior is very nice and refined. The lighting on the gauges is, simply put, very cool. For the price of the car it is amazing what you get inside and out. The bluetooth, steering wheel mounted controls, & sound system are a luxury. Above all, the engine rocks! Put your foot to the pedal and you will not believe it is a 4 cyl. Restrain yourself or let it go, it is your choice. It hops off the line and is agile, sporty, and feels like a V6. During my test drive when I hit the gas, I actually said, "that's what I'm talkin' 'bout". Oh yes, Daddy like!

The dash melted last year and of course it was out of warranty. Fortunately, the dealer agreed to cover the cost of the part while I had to pay the labor ($302). Yesterday I had to take the car in for a complete clutch replacement, also out of warranty, for an amount of $1600. I've learned that the replacement clutch is a redesigned assembly, most certainly as a result of a flawed original design. What other stock vehicle needs a clutch replacement at 34k miles?

i just got this car a few days ago and its amazing!! i had a 2012 ford focus that i traded in because I've had nothing but problems with it and was tired of dealing with the dumb people at Phil long here in Colorado. So i drove 1 hour and 14 minutes away to this Mazda dealership and got this car. Its great no problems so far when I hit the gas it goes no hesitation. I Love this car so much!! I'd like to add this car is sorta smallish os you have a child. I just think if I would have gotten in an accident it wouldn't be good since it's on the smaller side. I finally got a new car and no longer own this car. The 4 years I had this car it treated me great. I never had issues with it. Never had to have major work or anything. Just normal breaks needing to be changed, and oil changes. I LOVED this car. I'm sad I had to part ways because I needed something a little bigger with my child and we move a lot since my husbands in the service. Other than that amazing car and I'd totally recommend it. Nice little car for road trips. I drove it from CO to WA, WA to TN, and TN to AL.

I traded my 2008 Mazda3 GT for this 2010 Mazda3 GT and the improvements are obvious and immediately noticeable. Better transmission, Handling, Build, road noise/manners, just everything. Initially hardcore Mazda3 people like me almost hated this car just based on LOOKS ONLY. That passed and now it's beautiful as I realize it's as close to a perfectly built car as exists in ANY class for ANY price. The competition is laughable in specs and build and here's 1 reason why- Totoya Corlla-built- Canada/Indiana/USA,Honda Civic-built- Indiana/USA, Nissan Sentra-built- Mexico?, Thats one BIG reason but this car belongs in comparison to Lexus Is250, BMW3, MBZ-C, It's even better than those for the money.

These vehicles are not well-made. My paint on the hood and whole front clip is chipping off whenever anything hits it from a bug to a grain of sand. The gearshift knob spins. The tilt/telescope wheel doesn't stay where you set it. It is very hard for me (5'-10" and 205 lbs) to get comfortable. There is no ergonomic way to use the armrest while you drive. It is really loud in terms of road noise transmitted up into the car. Now there is a shake in the front end at highway speed. It is simply an over-rated piece of junk. I hate this car more than any other I have ever had. It has 7,000 miles on it, I can only imagine how bad it will be at 20,000.

With all the modern improvements to newer cars (suspension, braking, steering, noise, etc) it's getting hard to remember what a driving a car really feels like. Most new cars are taking away the responsibility of driving and putting it in hands of computers and technology. Although my Mazda 3 has all of these technological advancements, they have combine to provide a driving experience like few others. You will feel the road, have confidence while steering, hear the engine, and feel the grip under braking. Thus, it is not a car for the passive driver. But, if you are looking for a car that you will actively drive and get feedback during the experience - the Mazda 3 is a great choice.

I had to make an unplanned trip into downtown Chicago during that test drive. She performed well in the suburbs, on the tollway, in the city, and was easy to park and navigate. I realized I was comfortable driving her in all the situations I needed her to perform well in. Since then we have gone 125,000 miles together, and I have never questioned whether she would get me where I wanted to go. My only reason for not replacing her with another Mazda 3 Hatchback is the rear seat and cargo space are rather small, and Mazda has chosen to put in place their own navigation system instead of Android Auto in the 2018 models.

For my first car I bought a white 2010 Mazda 3 2.0 liter i Touring with the moon and tune package. It currently has just over 52,000 miles on it. The 2.0 liter 4 cyl. has good pick-up around town, but passing and merging on the freeway are a little strained. It's a fun little car that handles great and has a lot of nice features like a Bose sound system, a power sunroof, and Bluetooth. The ride is surprisingly comfortable on most bumps but on wavy surfaces it bounces up and down a lot. It's pretty quiet inside now that I put new tires on it. Everything is easy to reach while you're driving. It feels really nice and stable on the freeway, and the ride settles a bit as well. Update: It's been two years since the original review, and everything I said before is still accurate. My car now has almost 70,000 miles on it and drives the same as the day I bought it. I've had absolutely zero major issues with it. I still highly recommend this car!

Traded in our Mazda 5 in order to pass this car on to my kids, now 12. Now at about 14,000 miles, I am just as happy with it as I was with our 5. It's a great looking car and I really enjoy the bluetooth feature. Love using the manual shift and it is nice and sporty with alot of get up and go. Not thrilled about the gas mileage, but if I keep my speed under control, mileage does become better. Got Pearl White with beige interior and tinted the windows. Pay close attention, it looks exactly like the new Lexus 200CTH at half the price! Would buy it again in a heartbeat!

I'm yet another reviewer coming out of a BMW 3 series and into the Mazda 3. I'm stunned to say that this car is just as much fun to drive as my 325i was. Sure, it's not as quiet (the 3s has more tire noise on the highway) and doesn't have all the extra luxuries my BMW had. With that said, the Mazda 3 is a far better value. It's truly BMW-like in performance and offers many options that you normally find only in higher price points-like the automatic rain-sensing wipers my BMW had. If you're someone who enjoys driving, the 3 is light on it's feet, hugs corners, has plenty of power for it's size and great stopping power. With all that and exceptional interior quality, it's the one to buy

My last 4 cars were BMWs. When I purchased the Mazda 3 I expected a great letdown, but boy I am surprised! This car is a joy to drive. Very comfortable and surefooted, goes exactly where you point it. It has many features found on cars costing thousands more. Feels very solid on the road. On my 2nd tank of gas averaging 25mpg. The hatchback carries lots of stuff, just a joy to get behind the wheel.

Fun to drive, but a real fuel hog!

I purchased my Mazda3 in Dec 2009, but ended up selling it just 6 months later. While the Mazda3 was absolutely a blast to drive, I never did fall in love with the goofy "smile" on the front end. The seats were tight and uncomfortable for any trip more than 20 minutes, and the interior styling was just too much black. But the kicker was the terrible fuel economy: I averaged just 25 mpg after putting 12,000 miles on the car. I sold the Mazda and got a Civic. Yeah, the Mazda was far more powerful, but the Civic gets 37 mpg on average, is more comfortable and is overall a wiser choice. Shame on Mazda for poor gas mileage!

I was so pleased with my Mazda3 and my decision to change based at the time solely on the 0% ARP for 5 years versus my 2008 which had 5.9% for 5 years at the best month that year . I shave huge sums of profit taking interest and go myself a Better car-- far far better Than I anticipated-- more like a BMW eater and Lexus cheater- So what I do give a - about labels If it preforms and delivers I am on it - who cares what the emblem says unless you are insecure. Which leads me to this observation- I have been new car viewing the last 5 years with extra close attention to front end styling- You know what I found - Cars are starting to look more aggressive, mean ,and intimidating- why- insecurity
