Horrible Dependability, Build Quality H=Horrible
Purchased new Lexus Rx500h from Sewell Lexus 11 months ago. Currently has 9k miles on it. Repeated visits for same issues such as transmission, technology, squeaks and rattles, brakes and gas mileage as well as fuel tank capacity. Where do I start? Transmission: Shakes every time in reverse like the vehicle is going to stall. Also very hard, abrupt jerking shifts from first to second to third gear. Most dangerously the vehicle hunts for gear from a complete stop unless you put it in sport mode and floor it to enter into oncoming traffic from a side street or exit ramp. Very unsafe! Brakes: Brakes squeaked as early as 5k miles brought in around 6k miles thinking this was not normal and happened more frequently. Sewell Lexus said it was normal and sent me packing. Now at 9k it squeaks every time, every stop warm or cold. How can this be normal Lexus luxury dependability with a $75k vehicle having embarrassing loud squeaky brakes? MPG Fuel Efficiency: I have documented 17-18mpg at BEST for this vehicle since day one. Eco, Normal or Sport. Mix of highway and city driving. Not hammering the vehicle. I have owned several Rx400h Rx450h before and they ALWAYS have 29-30mph as advertised, even as they got older. This 500h hybrid gets horrible mpg. Additionally the gas tank capacity says 17.3 even for the 500h. After getting a loaner car while it was in service, I noticed the same vehicle 350h or 350 Rx has the same size 17.3 gallon tank. When I filled those other vehicles up, they got 24-25 mpg and filled up to 15.6 gallons vs the 14 gallons and terrible gas gas mileage of 17-19mpg. Technology: Frequent crashing of the CarPlay system, navigation and radio. Constant disconnection with my iPhone 15, my AirPods don't allow me to connect when CarPlay is on. Rattles/Squeaks: Two times for rear rattle with the cargo pull. They put some tape on it both times and felt and it did not fix. It's been in for the famous front a-pillar moonroof/pano roof issue. Loud creaking over uneven surfaces and constant rattle around the a-pillar. The bottom line on all these issues is do not buy the Lexus Rx500h. In my opinion, it's not worth it. Lexus should bring the V-6 back, turbo-charge that and make a true "500" hp F-sport beast and don't mess with the 4cyl turbo charge AWD and hybrid systems as they are clearly confused what to do, and perhaps Lexus bit off more than they can chew with this vehicle? Only pros: It looks nice.

Problem with radio cutting out, driver door lock
It doesn't happen frequently, but I'll be driving along and the RADIO WILL CUT OUT. Nothing I do while the car is running will restore the audio, but I can make phone calls and interact with the voice commands just fine. To restore radio operation, I have to shut the car off before it works again. More recently, I CANNOT OPEN THE DRIVER DOOR from the outside when I'm first going to use the car. I have to crawl through the passenger door and open the door from the inside. No, the door is not frozen. Also, the app is absolutely horrible. There are connectivity problems to the car, in which 500 http error codes (signifying an error) are returned, so I get NO info about the car. No mileage, no tire pressure, nothing. I notified the dealer as the car is still less than a year old and I have these issues. Finally, Lexus, you made a One-And-Done customer out of me for delaying the delivery of the second key. Yes supply of chips is down, but you continued to manufacture and sell cars without taking care of existing customers. I am scheduled to get my second key soon, but waiting 10 months for the delivery of it is UNACCEPTABLE. I urge others to steer clear of Lexus brand - they do not show that they care about you after the purchase.
