The LX 570 is a TANK wearing velvet gloves

When my mechanic and I went to change the oil for the first time, a normal 40 minute oil change became over an hour and 45 minutes with the required removal of 19 bolts of 3 different sizes and 4 underside skid/aero panels. So regular mechanics' bills for day-to-day stuff will be expensive. But this machine is screwed together better than the best GMC Suburban's (I've owned 2) and Cadillacs (I've owned 6) out there and it is a really fine car. And if you can afford the purchase price, you can afford the mediocre gas mileage. If I have to be in a car during a severe crash, this is the car to be in. Strongly recommend this machine. (After almost 4 years of ownership and about 70,000 miles, i am still convinced that this LEXUS, the LX 570 and my 2 previous Lexus sedans -- a 2012 LS 460 all wheel drive and a 2006 LS 430 -- are the best built cars I have ever purchased. I have purchased over 20 NEW cars in my short happy life and at least 10 used cars, to include antiques, and these big Lexus V-8's are quality cars that drive and perform superbly. OF NOTE, my 16 MPG gas mileage has IMPROVED now that the engine is fully worn in and we often get 18-19 MPG at speeds of 70+ mph). UPDATE: Everything that I wrote in this review was still accurate after 5+ years and 80,000 miles when I traded my 2015 LX 570 for a 2021 LX 570. I did this to get a new one before they stopped making them, 2021 being the last year of production for this model. These are superior machines and well worth the money. The 2021 LX 570 is the best all around SUV that was available before Lexus stopped producing the V-8 powered machine, which is why I traded in my 2015 for a 2021. I did not want the 3.4 liter twin turbo V-6. The V-8 engine is an excellent one and I am convinced that I made the correct decision. I nade the same decision in replacing my 2012 Lexus LS 460 all wheel drive with a new 2019 GENESIS G-90 ULTIMATE All wheel drive sedan. Lexus stopped making the V-8 sedan, so I went to their competitor to get a similar car with V-8 power, AWD and lots of luxury at a reasonable price.

The only SUV that matters

I have a 2017 LX 570 and this is my third LX dating back to 2002. My previous vehicle was a 2006 LX; I absolutely love the upgrades both internally and externally. I would not comment on the mpg as a negative--especially considering this is a full-time four-wheeled drive vehicle that weighs over 7,000 lbs--poor mpg is to be expected. I considered purchasing a Mercedes G Wagon or a Range Rover Autobiography...regardless of the curb appeal for those vehicles, none can compare to the LX's reliability and resale value. Having an attractive SUV that only looks good but cannot withstand the test of time (unreliable) is an oxymoron. I look forward to additional LX upgrades in time. The only SUV that matters.

6 years old and and still like new

Update 2020 another year with the vehicle - 8000 more miles and it is still quieter than some 2020 vehicles. Worth the investment - if your looking for a luxury SUV there is no better choice - you have a lot of luxury SUV vehicles on the road but only a couple that people will notice and that is a Lexus you can drive a 1,000 miles and get out of the car feeling great and not tired great ride - quiet - smooth ride at 80 mph with plenty left under the hood UPDATE This 5 year old SUV rides better than a brand new competitor - it is still as quiet as a new one - other than new tires no repairs - no issues - divide the cost over 5 years look at the resale value and this car is actually less than many of its competitors - love the company -

remove 3rd row seats

If you need to haul around 8 people, this is NOT for you. I'm guessing 90% of the buyers will never use the 3rd road seats, but would rather have the increased storage room. That's my only my only complaint. I removed the seats, stored them in my basement and expect they'll be there for the next 10 years. Otherwise, this is the best SUV you could ever ask for. What a delight to drive.

If you're looking to purchase a strong, reliable, luxurious large SUV, the LX 570 is truly the BEST choice available. This is my third Lexus vehicle. I've owned the 2016 LX for a few months, and it is truly confidence inspiring. It feels strong and solid, without sacrificing luxury and comfort. It feels as though it was built to go the ends of the Earth and, more importantly, MAKE IT BACK unscathed!

Trulely the king of suvs I have had serval suvs including g wagons Range Rover escalade 4 runner LX570 is the DADDY HANDS DOWN. It is the most comfortable SUV for road trips with o cooler in the armrest that fits a full bottle of champagne and still has room. Looks that are amazing and gets complements all the time. If you are thinking about getting one go for it as I can tell Ashly say this is the best SUV ever built.

The best SUV in this category

This is LX570 #4 for me. I've never owned four of anything, and every time I think about getting another LX570, I read about all others in the same category and drive them to see if there is something better. There isn't. And with each passing year, the LX570 just gets better. Yes, there are two other brands that are perceived to have higher status, but both have crappy resale and are filled with antiquated technology. I've taken mine in soft sand on the Washington Coast, without any problems or fear of getting stuck. I have used crawl control twice. There is no vehicle better suited for a road trip. It's the ultimate for that purpose, except for the low gas mileage. Don't pay attention to the computer that shows you getting 12. I'm getting closer to 15-18, which still isn't great, but this is a massive, very heavy SUV. I keep buying them because given the value and high resale, the overall cost of ownership is far lower than the other two in the same price point. American SUVs feel cheap to me and don't have the same attention to detail. I also have an S550 and I still prefer driving the LX570. It's also the little details, the quality of the switches, the feel of buttons, all the touch points that make the LX a better vehicle. Some of the others look cooler, more trendy, but you pay for it in lost features and horrible resale. If this is a dog hauler, it's best with the third row seat down and a seat cover. With the two seats up, the critters don't have any side visibility and the window line is high. Best to toss them in the third row seat, which still leaves enough room for groceries behind the third row, and a hair-free back seat. It's that third row seat for dogs that is a must for me. When you put it in Sport mode, it really does stiffen up and you can toss it around while paddle shifting. Yes, it's a beast and don't expect it to want to grip the road like the family Lamborghini, however that said, it will delight you if you let it. What I love about Lexus is that they just don't break. In my years of owning the brand, I've only had a few occasions when I had any unscheduled maintenance and that was in the 90s. I have about 4,000 miles on my 2017 and I'm thrilled with it. I do wish the second row had a tiny bit more leg room, but it's still not bad. Other gripes- though minor, would be the way you can't control the GPS while in camera mode on split screen. Also, when it comes to media, you have to spend some time getting to know the full capabilities. It can do a lot. The seats are extremely comfortable on very long drives and the cooler between the seats gets used all the time. I LOVE this thing!

I have owned 5 Toyota (Lexus is an upscale Toyota) SUV's...only got rid of them after they were totaled. I still own an 87 Land Cruiser with original engine that is more reliable than some other cars I have. I have had 2 Sequoias and they were rugged and reliable. A 2001 protected my family in a T-bone accident. I had a 2010 Lexus LX570 that protected my family well in a T-bone crash when someone ran a red light...again. My 2014 LX570 is beautiful...still looks better in 2019 vs. most other SUV's. There may be more modern safety or infotainment features on newer cars, but this one is reliable and can't be beat off-road. It is a great all around performer...great for business, date night, and mudding. I look forward to when they are finally upgraded. This generation has been around since 2008.

Solid, strong, reliable, fun to drive 4 a big suv!

I’ve driven many Tahoes, Suburbans, Expeditions, etc. This suv is in the same size class and is exponentially more interesting to drive. It’s not as “fun” as a Porsche Cayenne, but it can handle its own on curvy roads and the V8 is more than enough to get you through busy traffic if you wish to do so. Off road is where this vehicle shines, of course. It climbs Rocky terrain and hills like nobody’s business. Where other suvs would struggle, the lx climbs like the hill is not even there. You would really have to present it with a challenge for it to get stuck and I haven’t found one yet. Having taken mine on overlanding trips, passes, and other cross country trips, this thing does it all. Very smooth on the highway, so much so that rear seat passengers WILL fall asleep. Also, very very reliable. I’ve only had to deal with regular maintenance items... fluid changes. That’s it! UPDATE: Been using my LX to tow a 5000 lb camper the last year or so. Still going strong. Great vehicle. Terrible gas mileage but I don’t care about that, though it may be relevant to some buyers so mentioning it. UPDATE: Still a fantastic vehicle. I really love this car. I get bored of cars easily but this car has made me wish for nothing. I feel just as special driving this car since the day I bought it. It really is something unique. Also, the car has been flawless. Oil changes only. What a dream to own. Update 03/20/23: Still a great car. I usually switch cars every 3 years or so but it will be close to 4 years with this behemoth and I just love it. I can’t see myself trading it in for any other car in tge next 5 years. It feels irreplaceable. Just an awesome rig!

Overall Great SUV but some issues

This is a great SUV and very smooth ride. There is one concern that is not trivial as it relates to safety of the vehicle. As we have another comment below from some regarding Breaking and the Dunlop tires. I have experienced the same thing and it really is very bad breaking in snow. In fact , if the snow is slightly more than normal on the road, the car does not have any traction. I am not sure if any one else has experienced the same. As it drives well in other conditions, it most likely are the tires that are major concern. Most likely they hydroplane and that is dangerous in snowy and icy conditions-- > I mean much more than any other average car that I have driven. I hope Lexus takes a note of this.

Buy the Toyota Land Cruiser Instead

This is a great vehicle overall, however, the acceleration is abysmal considering the massive engine and the price is foolishly high. This SUV is identical to the Toyota Land Cruiser underneath and even the interior is roughly the same. Lexus added a little more leather and changed the badge. Speaking on the Land Cruiser it handles and drives the same. One of the greatest off-road vehicles you can buy right now, and it will probably outlast you. I do think that there are better options in this class of vehicle if you are not constantly driving off-road. The Range Rover is possibly a bit better off and on road but also has a higher price and checkered reliability. Not a bad vehicle but save yourself $10,000 and get the Land Cruiser.

I owned a 2011 LX 570 and enjoyed it, it drove great and I never had any problems with the SUV. I purchased a 2014 LX 570, 3 months ago and have been surprised & disappointed. The electronics system sucks. The navigation is not up to date, there are 36 presets on the radio sound system, but I am not able to label them. So I have 36 numbers. It is a danger looking for a particular station. The weather map looks like a five year old with a magic marker. The Lexus Enform App never works. $93K and I have a 1990 Ford Escort electronics package. Since I submitted the initial review I have turned it in and got another SUV but not a Lexus

If you EVER intend to drive in the snow and ice, DRIVE IT on those first. You likely will not buy it. I bought it before the snow flew. In years past, I had driven other LXs on snow and ice and they were great. Thought this one would be even better with improvements over the years. NOT! First, all LX models in the US are shipped with the "optional" 21" wheels/tires. NOBODY makes replacement tires for the size that comes on the car. You are stuck with what comes on it - great in the summer, junk in the winter. Literally the absolute worst tires ever on snow and ice for an SUV. They will not stop this heavy vehicle. When I called/wrote to Lexus to complain about buying a $100k SUV that cannot be safely driven in the snow in Colorado, Lexus was beyond uninterested in the problem. I would not buy this vehicle again, which is unfortunate since in good weather it is very nice. It rides more comfortably than any of the competitors I drove (many) and is much more quiet and refined. The technology is outstanding as is the Mark Levinson stereo (best I have ever heard in any vehicle). The acceleration is very weak though. Definitely not up to par in this class. But it is livable. Gas mileage is abysmal but let's face it, people who buy these cars are probably not terribly concerned with that. Still, it has a relatively small gas tank so I fill it much more than I had to fill my previous Yukon XL Denali (which also got an average of 2-4mpg better than the LX). Since I originally wrote this, I have experience more and more issues with the Lexus Enform App Suite having significant connectivity errors. Really annoying

$100,000 Let Down

PCM, 11/05/2022
2016 Lexus LX 570 4dr SUV 4WD (5.7L 8cyl 8A)
3 of 6 people found this review helpful

I have had this car since mid 2017 and in that time I have put 100,000 miles on it. Within that time, the lack of attention to detail has shown greatly. While the engine is incredibly smooth and the ride quality is great, the infotainment and poor interior quality lets down the car significantly, especially at its price point. There are numerous interior creaks and rattles. Bear in mind, there is nothing in the interior of the car outside of the insurance, registration, and my wallet. It’s not like the interior is particularly nice either - the buttons are all cheap, there is cheap black plastic everywhere, and the headliner is the same material used in a ‘96 Corolla. The leather is really nice, apart from the fact that at around 60k miles the finish just started flaking off. I would not be disappointed if the cars MSRP wasn’t 6 figures. It has the interior of a $45,000 car. Another drawback is how unstable the LX is at highway speeds. Above 70 mph, the steering wheel shakes. It has done this since the beginning of my ownership. 70 mph in an LX feels like 120 mph in a normal, well built car. At least the ride makes up for it. Otherwise, the LX is an incredible car. For the price point, it has no excuses to be as lackluster as it is. Lexus quality has gone downhill and this car is a prime example of such. I would not buy the LX unless you got a really good deal on it or drive a ton and need something that will never die. Pros: - Amazing engine. Though slow, it is incredibly smooth and balanced - Great off-road. I strongly suggest taking your LX on a trail if you have not - Smooth ride. The car is like a cloud, especially on long trips. - Seats. The seats are incredibly ergonomic and the heating/cooling functions are tremendous. - Infotainment. Everyone complains about the mouse but you adapt to it quickly. I do not mind it whatsoever. Cons: - Archaic suspension is not inspiring whatsoever. Vehicle is very unstable at highway speeds. It literally drives like a 25 year old car. - The interior quality is horrendous. Everything is fading quickly, breaking, or just flat out cheap. I have used a plethora of detailing products in attempt to save it and nothing has worked. - Transmission is smooth until 80% throttle input, then the jerks are so significant they cause magnitude 9+ earthquakes. - HVAC system is terrible. Makes the car super stuffy in the winter time.

Nice large vehicle with good safety features such as numerous, well distributed airbags. I consider the 6000 pound weight a bit of a safety feature as well. Has a number of issues which would place this vehicle between a 3 and 4 star rating for me. I had a 2011 model which I traded for a 2016. The engine in the newer model is more sluggish, and if a more rapid acceleration is desired, the engine sounds like a 4 cylinder that is about to throw a rod. The 2011 engine and transmission strangely seemed quite superior. This is usually sold with the 21 inch wheels, and as I found out after purchase, that Dunlop is the only manufacturer of a tire this size. Not a very good tire and I am at this moment in my 3rd week without being able to drive my car because the tires are nationally on a back order. The vehicle is sitting at my Lexus dealer, who doesn't really know what to tell me at this point. The screens for watching television in the back seat stick so far off of the backs of the front seats that they encroach on the headspace of the rear seat passengers. I found this almost scary when I sat in the back seat. Anti-lock brake mechanism is not smooth and if hard braking is required, the tires seem to skip around on the road. Not sure how much of this is due to the tire quality versus the anti-lock quality.

If the what your most concerns were listed in the title of this review, then this is the one to get. Of course there are always room for improvement: self parking, self driving, more leg room for the 3rd row, more room for cargo space, better miles per gallon, and double moon roof or panoramic roof, etc.

The money paid for this car; it should not be making abnoxous sounds. Apparently warranty doesn’t cover engine bay making sqeeeky abnoxous sounds. We should have gotten a Mercedes to receive better service.

Very comfortable, solid, but a challenge at the gas pump and relatively short range given the vehicle size.

This vehicle is for the usually driver who’s looking for reliablety, Safety and comfort all in one who knows every time he or she enter the vehicle they know this vehicle doesn’t change. This is the most consistent drive of a Real Suv and doesn’t have to apologize for it size.. I have own Lx470 and serval Lx570 and invite those who ride the fence base on not taking a true test drive of one of the most remarkable vehicle of it size and Toyoto continues to express. With You in Mind.
