Lexus GX470
Traded a 2001 Sequoia for the GX. Need something to tow a 5200 boat & trailer, and the GX470 does the job with ease. This vehicle might be pretty, but it's a real truck. Even though the Toyo and Lexus both have the same 4.7 liter V-8, the horsepower and torque upgrade in 2005 is very noticeable. It pulls like a beast. Love the backup camera, I can put the hitch ball right under the trailer coupler without looking over my shoulder.
Why buy a 2006 Lexus GX470
At the time, it was ahead of most vehicles in technology. Comparing it, today, follow this assessment: The rearview camera is something we would no longer do without! At the time, blind spot was not available, nor was cross-over. Toyota is NOT the king of technology in my opinion--but, the technology that was installed still works and has been without problems. The interior, except for wear on the driver floor mat, has held up extremely well. A good cleaning is all that will be required to look like it is brand new. The exterior of our car needs some repair--as in 2 areas of less than 2 square inches that need retouching, and a good rubbing compound prior to waxing--I think it would be considered excellent. It is almost impossible to own an auto for 10 years, drive it 90,000 miles and not have a few dents and dings--but, they are minor, and NOT the fault of Lexus. As for service, we value Kuni Lexus in Denver as the best dealership we have used. Expense? Well, maybe they are expensive--but, we never had any work done on our GX470 only to find that some "new problem" was immediately discovered--and, when I insisted on new tires (Kuni told me we still had 5,000 miles left on the old ones), they met the price of Costco......! Furthermore, the tires lasted 80,000 miles--unheard of in my experience! Same with the brakes--I practically begged Kuni to put brakes on--they lasted well beyond our expectations! But, had not been driving a Lexus prior to this one. Overall, 10 years with almost no major expense--the transmission didn't go bad, the engine didn't go bad, the electronics still work (including the heated seats, the stereo system.........nothing has gone bad on us! My only disappointment is mileage and the requirement for premium fuel. But.....15 to 16 mpg is not horrible, and it is a big vehicle.

Best SUV I Have Ever Owned
After owing the vehicle for 7 months I am still amazed at how smooth my GX drives. I choose this vehicle for its reliability, size and comfort as I have two large dogs. While searching for a new vehicle I test drove every SUV out there and I do mean every one including BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, Acura which I was really in love with at first but choose the GX in the end. I commute 100 miles a day for work and on occasion I have to haul things around so a decent amount of room was great. The interior cabin is very spacious and everything is well laid out for ease of use as well. Driving is a breeze as the engine which is quite strong is also very quiet, especially during an idle.
It's a technological marvel
The top reason to buy an SUV is for traction control. Well, the technology in this car is phenomenal. Full, split axle 4-wheel drive for mud and snow slopes that some trucks could not even handle. Computer assisted 4-wheel drive for on road use in snow and ice, along with a brilliant ABS system, though unnerving at times, and you can be sure of a safe fast stop in any weather. I also got a special suspension option (one of the few options offered on a Lexus) and I am amazed at how it handles bumps. Riding in this car is an absolute pleasure. Its computer technology is amazing as is its build. Cost is high, but I can say, it's worth every penny.
Best Vehicle Ever Owned
I have driven this vehicle 66,000 miles over the past 3-1/2 years.Bought it brand new in 11/2005.I am 53 years old and have owned at least 20 vehicles over the years. The GX470 is rated #1 over of all my other vehicles including my wife's M-B. The built- quality is excellent and so has been the reliability. I have had no issues, and no need for warranty work. So far just basic maintenance, like oil changes, tires and brakes, it is still running on the factory battery.I love the size, not too big, not too small. The mileage could be better,The third row seats can be removed easily(as I have done)to provide added cargo. I have only used the third row seat twice to accommodate visiting family kids
2006 GX 470
I moved from GM to Lexus for reliability reasons and have no regrets. I will probably never buy an American made vehicle again. I did have an issue with the driveshaft but the dealer installed a new one for free since the vehicle was still under warranty. This vehicle would be perfect if it had about another 2 feet added to the rear cargo area (similar to the Suburban or Yukon XL). The power delivered from the 4.7 is superb. Interior styling and finish is nothing less than what you would expect from Lexus. For the price, look real hard at this vehicle if you're in the market for this size of vehicle. I'm not sure if any other automaker can top this one! Looking forward to moving up to a LX.
You get what you pay for
I am the 2nd owner of this GX. So far, so good. Great ride and carries our family of 4 nicely. Very smooth. Decent amount of interior space, although I would have liked a little more interior storage. Have grown to love the navigation and ML sound system. The only CON would be the gas mileage...but I went into this purchase knowing that it would not be that good. As long as you are comfortable with that, I would recommend this vehicle highly!
Love this SUV
We just traded in our H2 for this great SUV. This is our first Lexus and we love it. Roomy, great interior and exterior looks ,the GX470 v8 has amazing power. It's got a great turning radius and such a smooth drive. Love the woodgrain steering wheel too, just wish it were heated! It seriously drives like a car.
Fun to drive
I really love all the features of my GX 470. However I wish there were more room for the driver.
What I expected
We'd owned an LX 470 for 5 years before trading on the GX. The flawless quality of the product brought us back. Where you notice the smaller size from the LX is in the back seat and to a lesser extent, the cargo area. It's not quite as quiet at the LX, but close. Slightly more powerful engine than our '01 LX and much lighter makes it a great performer.
Luxury and 4WD Performance!
We purchased our GX 470 a couple of months ago. We were initially impressed with the luxurious interior and strong, powerful engine. However, after 2 large snowstorms here in Colorado, I must admit that I am wowed by the performance in the snow. Keeping in mind that our first snow was over 24", we were temporarily stuck on our street. However, I threw the SUV into low range 4WD and off we went! It made my wife feel so comfortable about being able to effortlessly move through almost any situation. The height- adjustable suspension also came in handy during the storms as well. Throw in the Lexus reliability and you've got a real winner with the GX 470!
Great
I purchased a 2006 GX 470 with the navigation/Mark Levinson package in Nautical Blue Metallic with dark gray interior on 3/25/06. The vehicle itself is beautiful inside and outside. The interior is a little dated however still very classy and functional. Fit and finish is impeccable and to Lexus standards. The ride is very smooth and stunningly quiet! The Mark Levinson system is excellent. The navigation system is a little too fussy: you have switch from region to region if you are going to do any traveling between states and require assistance. The V8 is silky smooth and more then adequate to power the vehicle. Overall the GX 470 is a great SUV that I would highly recommend to anyone.
These are really great cars..
We've owned these as the Toyota Landcruiser Prado and they are awesome. A little thirsty with the 4.7Litre V8 but amazingly capable having taken one off road from Abu Dhabi in the UAE all the way to Salallah in the south of Oman.

Over priced car
I have had this car for 7 months now with 20000 miles on it and I should have walked into the Toyota dealer next door and looked at the Land Cruiser for a lot less. I am a big guy and this car is hard to enter and even women say that. The gas mileage is terrible. I think Lexus did a great advertising campaign to sell this overpriced car. The effort it takes to remove the rear seats is unreal and you would have to have no legs to sit in them.
Made a mistake
It kills me to admit I made a mistake purchasing this vehicle. Every complaint I read previously about the vehicle manifested with my new GX 470. Less than 1K miles and I kept experiencing grinding brakes and "the clunk". The clunk is a noise it makes after stopping. It causes the car to shift slighltly forward and feels as if someone tapped the bumper. When I showed the dealer a TSB report they were forced to fix it.
Disappointing
I have been so disappointed with this truck that, in the middle of my lease, I ordered a BMW X5 (I'm going back to this better performing, more luxurious SUV). The GX 470 is boring to drive. It lumbers down the highway like a full sized American car. The "premium" sound system is no better than average. The gas mileage is worse than the X5 - I rarely get more than 12 mpg. The interior is average - the leather and wood trim are not nearly as nice as what is offered by BMW or Audi. Overall, I paid 55,000 for this truck and it's worth about 35,000. I can't wait to get back into a BMW.
Reliable and Luxurious
We bought this car 2 years ago and it has been very reliable and convenient. With Lexus, you can't go wrong mechanically-what you get for your money is a total bargain. When you are in this price point, you can't skimp on some items and the navigation system is one of them. Of course if you choose to go with a stock stereo system it's a good system as well, but don't expect the best if you don't want to pay for it. The interior spacing is very comfortable-we often seat 4 adults and 3 kids in carseats in our vehicle. Of course that is using the third row - which is ideal for carseats or children who do not really need leg room. Driving it is a dream - I feel safe in all weather conditions.
I Love It
I have loved this car from the moment I left the lot. I average 16/17 mpg in town and over 20 on the highway. It pulls my big boat easily.
Well Built SUV
We bought a GX and have over 30K miles on it now. It is a very comfortable vehicle for trips and is very quiet for its size. Fuel economy is fair with 16 in town and about 19-20 on the highway. The Lexus dealer is easy to work with and fixes any issues without argument. Handling is average for an suv and has a fair amount of lean on corners. The 3rd row seats are useless for anyone but small children and should be designed to stow under the floor like other SUVs. Quality of interior and exterior materials is excellent.
A True Lexus at Heart
Having owned a GX 470 for about a year, I can honestly say that Lexus builds great cars, and that Lexus dealerships take great care of their clients. Overall the car drives just like many other Lexi, bland steering but with a solidarity only found in a few other car makes.
Worth the price
A real surprise. The GX470 is a well built, very comfortable SUV -- I looked at the Range Rover and the BMW X5 and am glad I decided on the Lexus. Everything in the car works -- not a single issue in the first 2000 miles. True, it's not a sport sedan -- and it drives like an SUV, not a car. But it has plenty of power and handles well. I'd recommend the GX 470 to anyone looking to replace their mid size SUV.
Best Luxury SUV
I have been researching for a perfect SUV with 3rd row capacity. GX 470 is by far the best of all. It drives so smooth like a luxury sedan. I am not an off road person. The only option I did not get is sport package. The vehicle is stylish outside and luxurous inside. The engine is not the most powerful but more than enough. Good towing capacity. It beats all comparables hands down.
Excellent SUV
Test drove the MDX, ML500, BMW X5, and also the Tourage. They all drove nicely. But I'm glad I bought my GX 470. It's comfortable and everything you can ask for in an SUV.
Love my GX 470
After looking at many different SUVs - I am extremely happy with my Lexus GX 470. The car has a very smooth and comfortable ride. The build quality is fantastic - this is my first lexus and I can see why they score so well in the customer satisfaction rankings. I would recommend this car for anyone looking for a midsized SUV.
A true luxury SUV
I had the ML320 2000. It was a good car. I bought my GX470 on 2/3/2006. Before buying this Lexus, I went to test out the ML500, Porsche Cayenne, X5 4.4i and the Volvo suv. I can honestly say that Lexus puts its competitors in the shadow. I was really impressed with the gas millage and the long trip. The road noise is almost unnoticable. Extremely quite and very comfortable. For 50k, it's worth it. The only flaw in this GX is the 3 row seating. It's useless. But if not included, back row passengers don't come rear air installed. For those who want to buy this GX, I suggest you all go do like I did. Test drive other SUVs in its class then test drive this last.
Great Looking Car
I feel very safe driving my GX 470. The navigation system is outstanding, the best I have ever seen. Even though it is a mid size SUV this car can easily fit into standard parking spaces. Sound system is top of the line
Traded 05 RX 330 for 06 GX 470
Purchased this vehicle because of reliability, this is third Lexus purchased. We needed third row seats and wanted DVD for grandchild. GX 470 has ample power to tow heavy trailers and climb steep mountain roads. Gas mileage and ho hum agility are the only downsides but have IS 300 for daily use and it gets 20-26 mpg.
Great but could be better
The only regret i have with this car is ours is without the kenetic dynamic suspension. i would consider this a must have option the fit and finish in our car is not up to lexus standards. The fuel economy is the biggest suprise it can easily get upwards of 24mpg on a road trip and about 17-19 on the twisties
GREAT SUV!!!
We love this car. Finish details supurb. Easy to drive. Navigation works well and is easy to learn.
GX 470
Runs like butter, nice appointments.
The Perfect SUV
Great truck. very happy with the purchase. The ride is very smooth and very quiet. Traded in '03 X5 4.4 and couldn't be happier. Test drove X5, Mercedes ML 350, RR Sport, and Lincoln Aviator. They just couldn't match the value of this vehicle. I recommend the sport package. Makes the interior much more attractive.
Best SUV and No Regrets!!
I test drove almost everything out there... nothing could compare to the GX 470. It is a reliable and safe SUV. I think it has the best Luxury and features when compared to the SUVs I mentioned. The one thing that made me buy GX 470 was the Sports suspension (KDSS), makes body roll almost non-existant. I have put over 6000 miles on SUV and never had any regrets or wanted any other SUV.
Best SUV
I now have 3,000 miles on the vehicle and it exceeds my expectations. I use it when I go skiing, it replaced a Honda Pilot which was not satisfactory in the mountains in winter. My wife loves the Lexus. I have owned a Land Rover Discovery and the Lexus is vastly superior. Also the gas mileage is better than my Land Rover.
Missing it
Wifey and I had our GX for just over one month. We loved riding in it. It does ride more like an SUV than a sports car. The stereo and NAV system are terrific for factory. The best feature about this vehicle is one I hope that not many ever have to test... Safety. We were in a major wreck and the vehicle is totaled with less than 800 miles. We rode up a guardrail and hit a tree head on at about 35mph. The truck also rolled onto the drivers side. The integrity of this vehicle is first rate.
Love this truck.
We just traded in our 05 Escalade for the 06 GX 470. We love it. The truck is truly beautiful inside and out. Rides like a dream. We were very nervous about going smaller in truck size but this truck offers us everything that we need in a nice neat package. We orded this truck fully loaded and are thrilled with everything. As for the 3rd row seat they are tight but the truck is smaller so that is to be expected. They are there just in case.
GX a winner
Wonderful vehicle. I haven't had much time to drive it since the rest of the family has experienced the comfort and reliability of this well built vehicle. My only concern is fuel economy. It would be nice if Lexus offered a version that dropped out some of the cylinders at cruising speeds to improve fuel economy. Otherwise, this is a great car with service to back the purchase. This vehicle has navigation system, rear camera, and bluetooth connectivity... really great options.
It's all that and more!
This is a car that gives you more for your money than any other car I've owned. The Nav and DVD are a nice, but the safety features are a must (side impact air bags, curtain and dash as well). When comparing this car with others make list of options, fuel economy and price and this car wins hands down.
Happy in my GX
Traded in my RX 330 after 1 month for the GX! What a difference! Really great comfortable truck. I love the rear camera and nav. Totally great!
My dream vehicle the GX470
I finally purchased my dream vehicle thanks to Jehovah. I love it. The best car I've own. I'm going to have alot of fun with it. 😀

Our favorite SUV So far!
We have owned every SUV there is and just traded in our H2 for this great vehicle. This is our favorite by far. We are a young couple and still wanted to look young. We wanted a vehicle safe for the family, with a comfort ride without a huge size and better gas mileage than our gas guzzling Hummer. This vehicle is all the SUVs wrapped up into one. It's comfortable, roomy, looks sporty, and gets an average SUV gas milage. We get about 16-17 in the city and 20 on the highway. We also use premium gas, it burns cleaner and allows better gas mileage. This is our first Lexus and we are so pleased with it! It has given the others a run for their money by far!

Couldn't be happier.
Traded in '02 X5 for fully loaded GX '06. The ride is very quiet and smooth. The X5 doesn't even compare. Also test drove RR Sport and Aviator. The Lexus was the hands down winner. I highly recommend the sports package. Makes the interior a lot more attractive. Couldn't be happier with my choice. A GREAT vehicle.
nothing better
Flawless. There is not a single area which requires improvement. Perfect vehicle inside and out, and I could not be more satisfied.
Lexus GX 470
Just bought the car. What a machine! Great to drive, pure luxury. It is wonderful to drive around in such a great SUV and watch all the people stare and look. My wife and I are now spoiled. We can never move away from a Lexus.
I'm still in Awe
I like the height of the GX and I really enjoy jumping out to see my GX lower himself. SO COOL... Having the touch screen navigation and the assistant (the talking lady) has been an awesome feature. My GX also has the Lexus Link which hopefully I do not have to use but if I need it. At least I have it.
Best vehicle I have ever owned
Wonderful SUV! Not only is it gorgeous, but it's comfortable and affordable. The third row isn't that comfortable for anyone over 4 years old, but it does present me options when traveling or having sleepovers. My teen son loves to have the whole row when we go on road trips. He uses the outlet for his electronics and can spread out. We get raves and questions wherever we go with this vehicle. Excellent buy for the money.
