Used 2012 Hyundai Veloster Consumer Reviews
So much wrong with this car I can't even sell it.
My veloster has 50,000 miles on it and to paint a picture of how bad this car is ill name off all the things wrong with it. 1. The parking break doesn't work at all anymore 2. The sunroof has a whistle at highway speeds so I have to keep the cloth part shut 3. I have to skip fourth gear when accelerating because it grinds every time I try 4. I have to push the cruise control button anywhere from 1-15 times to get it to actually turn on 5. The steering wheel wrap has been peeling up since 20,000 miles 6. I had to tear the passenger handle costing off because it slightly pealed up and cut my friends finger 7. I had to replace the tires at 30,000 miles 8. Two speakers have blown 9. To hit a button on the navigation you have to press and inch below the button you want and hard 10. The sunvisor won't stay up. The piece that makes the visor hold itself up whenever you move it completely locked up and broke trying to put the visor up 11. The silver piece that goes over the parking break button for looks just fell off one day This car was obviously poorly designed and then built with poor materials as quickly as possible. I wish that I could get rid of it but who would be a 2012 with 50000 miles with these kinds of problems already showing themselves.

Love the looks, disappointed on the whole
Mileage is great. Suspension is too harsh. Steering feels disconnected. Acceleration is poor, car is underpowered in my opinion. Brakes are great. Instrumentation layout and performance is very good. Navigation system is horrible; inaccurate and a rip-off in my opinion. Rattles in dashboard and now more are starting in other places in vehicle (60K miles). Awful smell coming from hvac system after about a year (a common problem - many internet posts about this). Interior looks 'cheap'. Low beam headlights don't illuminate the road far enough ahead. 4 season tires it came with were terrible in the snow - have since purchased other ones that are much better. One of the two automatic door lock\unlock\push button start failed after about 58000 miles. Rear view back up camera is great - better than others I have seen. This was the first sporty car I ever owned; I really like the way it looks. I wish I'd experience driving other sporty\sports cars before purchasing it. I would not buy this car again and would not recommend it. It is also the first Hyundai I ever purchased and I would be very reluctant to buy a different model Hyundai. Update at 85K miles: ESC stopped working at around 65K miles. Part alone was $700 to fix, which i did not do. Frozen right front brake caliper needed repair as well. Sunroof cover slider which is very thin has started warping along the sides. HvAC smell improved (after i cleaned it out per internet posts) but still present. Gas mileage continues to be great - easily over 40 mpg on highway if keep speed around 65. Still very disappointed with car. New models out this year have an increase in HP which this car desperately needed. Hopefully that will translate into better pickup. Update at 105K miles, 3/21. Complaints about the care are still the same. However i have had no further reliability problems of any kind which has upped my opinion of the car. I have a love/hate relationship with this car. I really like the way it handles and the way it looks but it's quirks are annoying - road noise, harsh ride, noisy loose interior fittings.

Fun and Unique Looking Car
I love this car and it certainly gets alot of looks. It rides well for its size and gets about 30 MPG mixed street and highway. It's noisey (hear the wind), when the sunroof is open but otherwise it is relatively quiet. I only have 2700 miles on it so it's difficult to rate it's reliability and total quality at this point. My only concern is with Hyundai service. Will the technicians be up to speed on this car when it comes time for service and troubleshooting issues, and will the dealership and hyundai honor their warranty. I also purchased the extended warranty as I tend to keep my cars long. The built in navigation system is challenging to use at times.
I should've listened to my father
I've had problems with my Veloster after hitting the 25,000 miles range. I had to replace my tires, twice, and after complaining to consumer affairs, I was sent a reply email basically telling me nothing is their fault. The Veloster does not come with a spare so I had to call road side assistance. Road Side assistance told me to go to the nearest Hyundai dealership....it was Sunday, they're closed. So, basically, Hyundai uses really bad tire manufacturers and then claims to have no sort of responsibilities for the types of tires they put on your car. The "touch screen" screen stopped working, even after having a recall and getting it fixed. I will never again purchase a Hyundai!!!

WOW what a great car and what a great price.
I purchased a Veloster at Temecula Hundai. I looked at the CRZ across the street and the Veloster is the better car hands down. I was almost hit because people keep stating at the car while I am driving. Today some guy was hanging out of his truck stating and gave me a thumbs up. I was driving a Mitsubishi Eclipse and the Veloster has so many more features but the same great handling. From Blue Link to XM radio to USB ports and Eco Coach, this car has it all.
2013 Veloster
I am pleased with this car, this is my first Hyundai. I needed a bit larger car for commuting manual a must that would offer good mpg. I have been a Miata owner but needed space. Coming from manuals I will say the only thing I don't enjoy 100% is the plastic feel while shifting. Nothing like the two Mazda Miata I have owned. But the Veloster isn't a sports car!!!! For me the 1.6l is fine people bash it way to much. One thing I will say, I do my own maintenance and I STRONGLY Suggest a can of BG 44k. If you do your research online you can pick it up $21-24. It is the best fuel cleaner!!!! I throw a can in every 10,000 miles and every DI engine I have had gets 1-3more mpg. ( this is not to gain hp, or anything it's a very good cleaning agent, bye bye carbon) you will still need to get your valves/ Manifold cleaned if you want your car to last. This said I really enjoy my 2013 V with 48,000 miles. [non-permissible content removed]

Veloster beats every other car in it's class
I saw one of these on the road... stopped to test one on a whim one day when I was off work early... went back the next day and bought an electric blue one with the auto shifting double clutch. This car rules. I went and looked at other cars in this class, they cost more, and feature less. I took it on a 1600 mile road trip a week after buying it. The car saved my life from some crazy road rager, we drove circles around him. Powerful, fleet, surefooted, sexy and paying me back every time I go to the pump. Awesome!
3 door fun
Fun car for secondary roads. Visibility out the rear window is not great. Underpowered on hills/passing but returned 37mpg average.

Not overly impressed over full life of car
Owned this car for 5 years and still drive it. Transmission surges at low speeds. 2. Radio display quits every 6 months. Have to disconnect battery to reboot. 3. Blind spots all over this car. 4. poor traction In snow. 5. It is reliable engine wise. 6. It still attracts attention while driving. 7. Tire replacement is expensive. 8. Engine lags if you do not gas it. 9. Rough suspension you feel every bump. 10. Rebate system on mistating gas mileage is a joke. 11. Warranty support is a joke. Won't fix surging transmission because their diagnostics will not return an error code. 12. Good commuting car as long as it doesn't snow. 13. Some trouble getting in and out but I am a fairly big man.

never again
We have owned the car for 4 years as its my wifes commuter car. The local dealer ship is one of the worst in the Tallahassee area. They care about the "sale" only. The vaunted warranty is worthless. Only covers if all the maint is done at their facility ,so no doing your own oil changes. The car always had something wrong with it from ECU updates to recalls on the glass roof, brakes, leaking headlights. Head unit with radio always had problems from volume knob no longer working to just cutting off for no reason. Cruise control worked when it wanted to which was not all the time . Advertised at 40 mpg but never got better than 32 on interstate commute Resale value was a joke on a miata, but hooray ,its gone
