2023 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy 4dr SUV AWD (3.8L 6cyl 8A)
I purchased the 2023 Hyundai Pallisade Calligraphy in August 2022. In October 2022, I pulled onto a highway where the posted speed limit is 70 mph. I had plenty of time. Oncoming traffic was at least 1/4 mile away.
When I pressed on the gas, the speedometer would not go over 20 mph. The RPM quickly shot up to 4000 RPM. The car was not responding, and there were no warning lights on the … instrument panel. The transmission was in Drive in the Smart mode. Oncoming traffic was bearing down on me quickly. The only thing I could do was coast onto shoulder and turn on my hazard lights.
For the remainder of Fall until warm temps in the following Spring of 2023, this dangerous issue occurred 100% of the time without fail. I had to drive out of my way to avoid sloped intersections.
The pattern is very clear:
First drive of the day and when car has not been driven for 2 or more hours.
Cold temps below freezing (car is garaged and the garage is heated)
Car is warmed up.
Car comes to a complete stop for at least 10 seconds before proceeding. A rolling stop, if possible, would not be a problem.
Stop is on a slope of at least 10°.
When pulling ahead, there is power, the speedometer won't go over 20 mph, RPM shoots over 3000, the car is coasting, no response when pressing the gas repeatedly. The problem lasts about 20-30 seconds. Then the car responds.
Service techs are unable to get it to fail. That's because they don't have stops with the adequate slope. They came out to my house twice where I was able recreate the problem as expected but their diagnostic equipment couldn't pick that up.
Bottom line, if the Hyundai diagnostic equipment doesn’t show any problem, then the car is just fine. Even though the techs witnessed the issue, Hyundai will not cover anything because their equipment doesn’t show a problem.
