After owning a full size SUV, test drove several vehicles and decided to go with the 2022 Ridgeline. Never owned a truck before, so was skeptical. However, this is not your ordinary truck. I patiently waited for the desirable exterior and interior color combo. All the style of a SUV with the added cargo space. After a few trips to Home Depot and Lowes - so glad made this decision. The two way tail gate is a versatile gem. The Ridgeline's unibody chassis, fully independent suspension and a torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system make the vehicle quiet and firm to drive. Unrivaled among midsize pickups — this is where the benefits of being a car-based truck shine through. Key - feels stable and composed around turns. Least I can say, it is reliable and recommend test driving. Read stories of long wait and poor inventory. In the Charlotte NC area, inventory is surprisingly fair with most dealers having some inventory. UPDATE: We purchased the 2022 Honda Ridgeline after have two full size SUV's. Doing more road traveling and wanted the room for family and dog. After six (6) months totally convinced we made the correct decision. The vehicle looks great, like the interior, comfortable seating and drives well. Hauls enough and great for our local trips to Home Depot or Lowes.

2nd Ridgeline

I have purchased a new '22 Ridgeline to replace my 2019 version, and I like the new version even better than the '19. The infotainment is a little better with the added volume knob, and the gear paddles allow me to choose the gear I want without gunning the engine. Small complaints with the older model to be sure. The '22 rides well, the seat is comfortable, I have the paddles, the push-button shifter works well, grill looks more like a 'real' truck, fuel economy is good, and the red this year is more 'fire engine' and less maroon. I wish the blind spot camera was still a thing, but Honda decided against it, I guess. Wheels look more off-road and less minivan but still ride well. The Honda road noise is better than usual, I think, and the versatile tailgate still surprises some people who are unfamiliar. I can drive this thing for hours and feel fine. Apple Carplay is included and between that and the infotainment system, all is good. The rear door opens wider than before and that's definitely a good thing if you're trying to put something bulky in the back seat. Heated seats work well, the heated steering wheel is a blessing on cold days and the climate control is very user-friendly. I've owned F150s in Lariat and King Ranch flavors, and they're darned nice, but for the money (2/3 of a KR), the RL is a great vehicle for someone who needs a truck only occasionally, or who just likes driving a truck-like vehicle. Complaints: the blind spot camera is gone, infotainment system is not as good as some other vehicles, I want a R/N/D selector with a handle and I would like to see more options when it comes to interior colors. But these are very minor complaints for this very good vehicle. UPDATE: I own a 2019 Ridgeline and was shopping for a new Ridgeline. I worked through the packages and options and settled on the RTL-E. Found one in red and pulled the trigger. The redesign of the Ridgeline looks better to me and most of my friends. Styling is subtle but I think will stand the test of time. Chunkier front end, dual exhausts and paddle shifters are all improvements as far as I’m concerned. The new Ridgeline is what I prefer to drive these days and not just because it’s new. I’ve owned/own BMWs and Audis and Fords and all the Japanese brands and MINIs and Fiats and Lancias and the Ridgeline is what I drive when I want to go from Point A to Point B comfortably. The rear doors open wider than before, the driver’s seat is very comfortable, the interior is quiet, the ride is great, the rear passengers have plenty of knee-room, acceleration is good, the motor and transmission work well together, the underbed storage is super, the cabin cools quickly in Texas-sized heat (with a quality heat-rejection film application), and the tailgate makes it easier to access the bed in whatever fashion I need. The truck is bulletproof, but parts are available anywhere (though I have never had a Honda/Acura break down on me). The infotainment system is a little clunky and not particularly intuitive, but eventually you figure it out. Sound system performance is good. Not as luxurious as the King Ranch F150 I owned or the KR Explorer I have now, but it costs a lot less. I hope Honda continues to build trucks and I plan to always have one in the fleet. Additional update: Still love the Ridgeline. Averaging about 23.5 MPG in mixed driving, using ethanol-free gas almost exclusively. There’s a little spring squeak coming out of the right rear, but I kinda like it for some reason. Still my preferred vehicle and especially as cooler weather approaches. I’ve put as much as 800+ miles on it in a day without complaint from it or me. Comfortable, quiet, good fuel economy for the segment, good-looking and Honda reliability. What’s not to like?

The blunt truth

There is a LOT to really like about the Ridgeline, and a few things Honda really needs to correct. First, the good. The sheer utility of this "Not A Real Truck" or "NART" is truly off the charts. The bed is wide enough to fit 4x8 plywood or drywall - compare that to any other mid-size truck. The in-bed trunk is an amazingly useful benefit that nothing else has. The dual action tailgate makes accessing either bed or trunk much easier. The interior is spacious, with lots of storage. The rear seats fold up and out of the way exposing a cavernous second row. The driving dynamics are great, fuel mileage is good, visibility is very good. All in all, there is a LOT to really love here. And the bad... Honda serious cheaped out on the infotainment head unit. Voice recognition/navigation are terrible. Apple Carplay integration freezes the unit regularly. The wireless charging pad is barely functional, for a few seconds before wigging out. At the higher trim levels, there's no excuse not to have rain sensing automatic wipers. If I'm really nitpicking, the transmission could shift a bit faster, especially between reverse and drive. 3 point turns make you appear to drive like a grandma. All in all, I'm happy with my purchase, and I'd rather have the Ridgeline than any other mid-size truck, but Honda's really missing the mark on a few quality of life items. UPDATE: After now owning the truck for almost 3 years, all of the above holds true. I've learned to live with the infotainment system -- As long as I disable almost every app from syncing with CarPlay, it pretty much works reliably-ish. I can sync Spotify, but definitely not any navigation apps like Google Maps or Waze. Gas mileage is lower than I'd like, but I mostly take short/local trips. Averaging about 17mpg in 95% city driving, or about 22mpg when I take a longer trip. Utility remains unmatched.

Less than 2,000 miles, AC has failed twice

We put a deposit down on a 2021 Ridgeline in July of 2021, finally took delivery of a 2022 in December. Truck is nice, rides nice, although the pushbutton shifter is a head-scratcher. Seriously? Anyway, AC went out after about 1500 miles, dealer replaced the compressor, 300 miles later and the AC is out again. At this rate we will probably end up going lemon law. I know Honda has always had issues with AC, but this is ridiculous.
