Used 2016 Honda Pilot Consumer Reviews
New addition to the family
Spent 6 weeks researching this class of vehicle. Even though none of them met all my requirements, the Pilot met most. Unlike its competitors where I felt like a sardine in a supposed "mid size" SUV, the Pilot just makes me feel overall comfortable in it! Kind of like your favorite chair! Just got it home last night due to having to wait 3 1/2 weeks for it to be delivered to the dealer. Apparently they are in big demand and dealers can't keep them on the lots. So, I haven't put it through it's paces yet. A trip to the North Georgia mountains will be it's first non-urban driving test. Some things I'd like to see Honda change: more insulation against road noise, more cup holders up front, less tilt to display screen, lower the back hatch entrance to help with lifting heavy objects into back (its too high), offer standard moon roof on lower end models, brighten up exterior color options (way too much gray/black...yuk!). So far I love it! Update 7/2017: Have had it for a year now. Still love the comfort and ease of driving, especially on long trips. Love that my Steel Sapphire color seems to be unique to where I live. Interior climate control and visibility is super. Wish it got better city gas mileage; highway gas mileage is great. Have had problems with Bluetooth Handsfree Link with new Google Fi phone; still working out kinks. Wish entertainment system display used it's real estate more efficiently; has too much wasted space that could be used to display info on music, etc. Rear-view "kids mirror" is a waste, as in most vehicles; should have consulted more moms on design. Auto rear view mirror dimming at night doesn't seem to work well. Rough shifting gears at low speeds between braking and accelerating. Still glad I bought it! Update 1/2018: Still so glad I bought this vehicle! Super comfortable. Road noise still a bit annoying; tends to interfere with handsfree phone recognizing commands. Handsfree phone is quirky; sometimes works well, sometimes has a mind of it's own when pairing spoken command with phone directory. Easy to hear person on other end of call though. Braking is not as "catchy" as when new but still not as smooth as I'd like. Still missing extra cup holders up front. Leather seats holding up well. Update 2/2020: Still glad I bought it. I get lots of compliments on the color and interior comfort. Noticed some newer models on the road with what I consider to be "better" rear brake/turn/back up lights; more traditional with turn signal as orange/yellow bulb, back up white at brake light level. My 2016 back up lights are super low on the back bumper and no one in parking lots seems to see them when I'm backing up! Hands-free phone still drives me nuts! I'm thinking the excessive road noise interferes with the system recognizing my commands; doesn't work at all with the moon roof open. Unlike other reviews I've read, I think the sound system is just fine. Plan to keep it for a long time. Update 08/2021: Still very happy with the Pilot. Same things still annoying but as stated before, plan to keep it a long time. BTW, I bought it new, unlike the "used" category this review is listed in. Update 7/2022: Same things still bug me, especially road noise. A friend recently bought a KIA Telluride and when I rode in it, it was WAY quieter than my Pilot. Still think the road noise interferes with hands-free calling...annoying. Still great highway MPG, not so much in city. Still comfortable interior.

Avoid the 2016 Honda Pilot EX-L new model junk!
Purchased a brand new 2016 Honda Pilot EXL from Kenosha Honda in Kenosha Wi. I also purchased the extended warranty from Keno Honda for this vehicle. I've had many new Hondas (7) to be exact 2 are still in my family being used by my kids. The 2016 drove nice and problem free until it reached the 40,000 mile mark. My wife the Sunday driver had all of the warning lights go off brake, engine, traction control,ABS and engine emissions system failure. Took it in to the dealer. The vehicle was there for 6 days. The catalytic converters were replaced, at 40,000?? Makes no sense. Took the vehicle home. We drove it for 2 hours all of the lights came on again. Back to the dealer. Car was returned and said it was all repaired. Transmission started to make noises and another warning light. Decided to get it serviced one more time and trade it off. Never had problems with any other Honda.

Drives fine, but number of issues still
Subwoofer doesn't work for many people. Radio switches from Mono to Stereo sounding like volume is changing. Charging system issue keeps popping up and dealer doesn't know how to fix any of these issues. Honda is closing cases opened via corporate. This is very frustrating for current owners. Can read more here: https://t.co/JdvyKEMyCr Beyond that like the capacity in the interior, drive, and fuel economy. Breaks could be improved, and front seat comfort could have been better quality.

Front Seats are the biggest let down
We have been a Honda family since 1987. Today we are retired, and as we enter an era of long-distance driving, our orthopedic and spinal surgeries dictate that our new car MUST have orthopedically correct seats (aka "multi-contour" in many circles). Much to my dismay, when at the dealer, I discovered that the Elite's driver seat has only a two-way lumbar support (in and out), and the passenger seat has no lumbar support at all. Worse, the passenger front seat, although power, only goes front and back, not up and down or tilt. BOTTOM LINE: The Pilot Elite seat comfort is below par for the luxury SUV segment. It looks like our days as a Honda family will soon be over.

My wife and I are very pleased with our new Pilot
We love our new Pilot, having owned it for only a couple of weeks to this point. For us, it came down to the Pilot vs. the Toyota Highlander. Our previous 2 vehicles were a Toyota Rav4 and Toyota Venza. We had no problems with either of them, but we felt it wouldn't hurt to look at the competition- the Pilot. We test drove a 2016 Pilot, then a 2015 Highlander back-to-back. Surprisingly, we both quickly chose the Pilot hands down. We felt that it was best for our family. Highlanders 3rd row was quite inferior. As for the reviewers that criticize the Pilot's styling, I can't help but wonder why you would still move forward and purchase the vehicle if you didn't like the way it looks. I personally like the way it looks. As for the 9 speed transmission, I admit that we were tempted to get the Touring model, but some of the critical reviews scared us off. If you are considering a 9 speed, be sure to take one out for an extensive test ride to save yourself from any surprises later. All in all, we are quite pleased with our Pilot
