Used 2016 Honda Pilot Consumer Reviews
Watch Out -- Lemons are out there
Purchased my 2016 Pilot LX in late July -- what a mistake ; after 300 miles heard a popping noise in chassis / suspension when backing out and steering to move forward - very pronounced; brought in for service and the service rep said it was a bushing; well it re-occurred -- now 1500 miles and it is in the shop again -- guess what -- was told that Honda is aware of the problem BUT while no TSB is out , Honda mechanics tried another fix with the driver's side wheel assembly and frame ... will see how this holds up in a month. Otherwise, the LX remains a very good vehicle ... just that after owning my share of American cars in the '60s and '70s where it was the norm to visit the dealership within a week oe two for defective issues, I have gotten "spoiled" in owning good foreign cars where a visit to the shop is only for scheduled maintenance. Update 12/15/2016- the popping noise has returned -- so much for Honda Quality unless totally built in Japan. Update 12/16/2017 - been to the service dept twice where an attempt was made to fix this problem -- not successful.. so I bought the proverbial lemon

Terrible Transmission in Most Expensive Honda!
Transmission never worked correctly! During the third Regular Maintenance and after several upgrades to take care of the Transmission problems in previous Regular Maintenance appointments, I was told Honda had ordered the Dealer to keep my vehicle so they could replace the Transmission! What, I yelled! It only has 12,000 miles and you have fixed twice before and now you tell me it needs replaced!!! Disappointment began and went on and on and on. Told transmission problem was being experienced by others....Given an Accord not an SUV to drive for weeks...told dealer I wanted another new 2016 Honda Pilot Elite manufactured after Transmission problems were known and hopefully corrected...Was told how to contact Honda company.....Which told me how to look at the Owner's manual and appeal their decision to not give me a new one but rather fix the old one....Filed the appeal....The so called reputable board turned me down...and turned down (or did not even see) my second choice of "you fix it and give me back money I lost by trading wife's older Honda Pilot and my 2013 Honda Civic in to make my wife happy....They was NOT mentioned in the turn down of a new one but they also did not refer to it and I am unsure if they even knew about it!!...They requested I reply and agree to their decision.....I just filed all the paperwork....so sad am I

The best SUV!
I had a 2007 Pilot, with 200,000 miles. And it was great but I wanted something newer. I'm glad I made it the new Pilot! It is seriously the best SUV after comparing other similar ones. The safety is amazing. Comfort is great, the seats are the best. I love the LED's in the front and the back. Also, it's an awesome looking SUV. I think it's the best looking one. If you are looking for an SUV with great technology, safety, comfort, and all around luxury, I highly suggest that you make it the Pilot. I fogot to mention the gas mileage, I get an average of 26 to 27 mpg. Which is incredible for this SUV. GREAT VAN!!!

Not so great
Our family has leased a new Honda Pilot every 3 years since 2003.Our current lease is up and we went to get a new Pilot. Needless to say, we did not like the redesigned Pilot. Don’t get me wrong, there were a lot of improvements to the new Pilot, but the overall style is more of a minivan than an SUV. The quality of materials is significantly better than our current 2012 Pilot and we like the captain chairs. The one button to move the middle seats is very easy and the camera in the passenger side mirror is very cool! The ventilated front seats are comfortable. What we did not care for is the minivan style flip down arm rests on the front seats and touch screen audio system. You can see every finger print on the screen. Our Acura also has the touch screen audio and the fingerprints never go away. It drives me crazy! The touch screen is bit more labor intensive to change the station or volume, so you will be more distracted from the road and traffic. There are controls on the steering wheel for some functions though. Our Acura also has push button start and both my husband and I would prefer an actual key. It is very easy to leave the car running, especially how quiet cars are today. The push button transmission selector is in a really bad location. I have visions of a beverage mishap and a very expensive repair to follow. Why the transmission selector is electronic and not mechanical is also a concern. The visibility is very good from the driver’s seat and the ride is awesome. The engine start-stop is something I would have to get used to, although. I really don’t see the saving as the mpg is rated the same as what we get in our 2012 Pilot. The steering and handling on the new Pilot is a huge disappointment. The steering is weak with a weird bottom heavy feel and it is slow to respond. The steering does not feel substantial enough to handle a vehicle of that size and weight. Needless to say it is very unnatural and not something I would want to deal with every day. The new Pilot has significant body roll on right hand turns, but seemed to be Ok turning left. If you take your turns at a snail’s pace, it might not roll as much. I am also not fond of the exterior styling. It screams “Me To” as it looks like an expanded CRV. We have been driving Honda’s and Acura’s for a very long time and have been satisfied and loyal customers, we are now looking at other manufacturers for our next SUV.

Great overall vehicle
The safety features that come with the Honda Sensing is well worth the value I use the ACC and LKA on a daily basis. I agree with others that the FM radio needs an upgrade, but overall this is a great family vehicle and fun to drive.
