First SUV I've owned and really love this one
I've owned mostly two seater sports cars my entire life but at my age--mid 60s--I needed something that could haul more stuff plus was physically easier to get in and out of. I traded in a 2015 Honda CR-Z hybrid and was prepared to have to spend a lot of time adjusting to the HR-V...turned out not to be the case. Despite the obvious difference in height and handling, the HR-V was actually fun to drive. Handling for a compact SUV was really nice, with very good road feel. I was amazed at how great the gas mileage is. My first freeway trip of about 100 miles round-trip averaging +/- 70mph, I easily got 40 mpg on the trip meter; the CR-Z was only slightly better. Stop and go is not as good but at around 23mpg it is still credible. Everything mentioned in the Edmunds review is pretty accurate: acceptable--not great--front seat comfort; fantastic versatility for cargo carrying; display menus not intuitive and split among different touch, button and menu deep options. Most loved features so far: auto lock and unlock will spoil you forever. I also think the cabin interior design and materials look fabulous for the price point on this. I originally looked at a Subaru Crosstrek and the interior looked like a middle school science project by comparison in addition to it having all the driving charm of a half-track...I hated it. All in all, I am falling in love with this HR-V and can't imagine being much happier with anything else out there. Although I am leasing it for peanuts after my trade-in was applied, if it holds up well I don't know why I wouldn't just pay off the residual and own it at the end of my lease. I warmly recommend you checking out the Honda HR-V. I think you are in for a very pleasant surprise.

Traded my Honda Fit for HRV EX-L
Purchase price $700 below sticker. It's roomier, quieter, and safer than my 2017 Fit. The HRV has honda sensing safety tech which seems easy enough to operate. The magic folding rear seats (as in the Fit) are the deal clincher as we have a 100 pound dog. Not a fan of the midnight amethyst paint - I wanted white. This car is superior to the Fit in every regard except the gas mileage. Tires are larger, quieter, and take corners better. Higher ground clearance is a plus.

Road trip friendly
Because I enjoy traveling often, a vehicle being road trip friendly was at the top of my list when I was searching for a new vehicle. I was considering a lot of different SUVs until I stumbled upon the Honda HR-V. I took it for a test drive and I fell in love instantly. I absolutely love my new Honda HR-V. I traded in my old 2006 Jeep Wrangler Sport for the HR-V and don't regret it for a second. This vehicle is GREAT on gas compared to the Jeep and is an excellent commuter vehicle. I've already taken my HR-V on two road trips and she drives like a dream. The seats are comfortable, I love the extra USB port so I can charge more than one thing, I love the Apple CarPlay (and it connects automatically whenever I turn the car on), and there's loads of space! This is an excellent starter SUV; you get all the room without the bulk! If you're considering buying an SUV for the first time, I highly recommend the Honda HR-V.

A lemon
After driving my car for less than 5 months, he turned to be a lemon. Issues with the Bluetooth and GPS, Electrical, and missing parts from the manufacturer. I have taken the car to the dealership over and over again, and they don’t do anything to fix the vehicle. I’m still having issues. Honda has been awful. Sad, as I’ve been a loyal customer for 10 years. This is also my 5th honda and if they don’t take any responsibility, it will be my last. They assigned a regional manager that didn’t care about my needs and did not return my calls. I had to send a request to the attorney general for arbitration for Honda to pay attention and someone return my calls. Interesting to say that since I contacted Honda, the dealership started to send text, mail, and email about buying a new car using my HRV equity. Why would I buy a new car when my car is new?Clearly, they know the car is a lemon and don’t want to do the right thing. Very disappointed with Honda and the Dealership. I love this little car.
If you're reading this, you know the buzz says that the 140hp engine has hardly any "pickup," which in my mind is a silly reason to downgrade a car. Listen, you shouldn't be roaring to 60 in a second. You should drive precisely and safely. You want to tear down the highway? Please buy another car and don't drive anywhere near me. This car is GREAT for the weekend getaway, all my sporting activities, traveling with my partner and my dogs, and feeling that they are safe and comfortable. Frankly it does just fine on hills, yes, because again, it drives easy and the Sport mode allows me to improve performance, and I don't need to take a mountainside in the rain at 90. Its a gorgeous accommodating version of an SUV for those of us who don't have kids to haul, who don't need to get there 5 minutes faster by accelerating in 3 seconds, and love a long drive with a sweet sweet amount of space in the roomy interior. I love the new ApplePlay and I LOVE the Honda App in the morning, with a remote start. Amazing. I paid for plenty of accessories, if you're wondering about the markup on the price declared.

Better than expected
Great driving car. Quite, responsive, and drives comfortably. Also great gas mileage and I believe in Honda quality. I read some of the reviews about the lack of power and engine vibrations. But I do not sense any of that. Perhaps it’s because I purchased a 2019 and those prior mentioned negative comments has been resolved with this new HRV release. That’s just my assumption. But my personal observations that this cars is underestimated. Within its price range and class this car is outstanding. It’s not like my Honda Pilot or BMW, but nevertheless my HRV Sport is worthy for long road trips or for just daily commuting. I just wish I bumped up to the EX version but I’m happy.

Diver bullet
Very disappointed with the hollowing noice as you accelerate. The suv also has an uncontrollable rattling from the front bottom as you increase your speed pass 40 mph. Spoke with dealer, Honda costumers service and district manager which are not taking responsibility for a known problem with no fix. Note they have known of this problem since 2016 and don’t have a fix. My opinion is don’t invest into a problem suv. I never thought that I would say this but “I am Disappointed with Honda costumers service.”

I friggin LOVE this car
If you are looking for the Perfect small suv I found it for you! This car is perfect in everway! Sporty and fun on the outside ..no mom SUV here ! Drives like a dream, loaded with technology and turns on a dime. I have the awd and it held the road like glue in upstate ny snow storms! The back seat leg and head room is incredible! My son is 6’3 and was more than comfortable back there. Apple car play is flawless and did I mention the technology in this car is insane ! You don’t have to lock it , steer it or brake ( just kidding but helps you with all those things) the gas mileage so far has been good. The only thing “bad” I can say is that in the ex model it does not have a power front seat or LED headlights ..kinda strange but I’m good with it ! The speakers are yuck but just will replace. I drove every car in this class except the Toyota because it had no sunroof. I am SO glad I bought this car ..zero buyers remorse and such a great buy. You can not go wrong with this car or Honda !

My Black Beauty
The pros and why I wanted an SUV is the cargo space for one. I haul a transport chair and walker for my husband and has to wrestle them in and out of my civic. With the HR-V can slide right in and out. So much easier for me. Also entering and exiting the vehicle. I have had 3 hip replacements and I can just slide right into the HR-V. My civic I had to climb down to get in and climb up to get out. This is 100 times better. The interior is a much better quality than my 2015 civic. I actually hated the color and material the seats were made from. The newer type of fabric is si much better. Few small complaints on design. I wish the ignition where you put in key had a small circle of light so you could see in the dark where to insert key. Also since I purchased the base model I have to use ports to charge my phone. I understand the more expensive models you lay phone on certain area and it charged your phone. The ports are down under the console where you cant even see to try to charge. Very bad design. Also wish a little bit of tray area to sit things like phone. Again the area where you could sit things is under the console. So not impressed with overall design. Think Honda dropped the ball in this area. But in the scheme of things not a deal breaker. Overall thrilled with my vehicle.

My new toy
Others said the HRV had no pickup and was noisy inside ...this has great pickup and is very quiet...maybe a Beemer or Mercedes might be different, but pay no attention to those critics. This is a great car...a bit smaller than my CRV, but sort of prefer it now.

I love this car!
I don’t get why they are rating the Kona and the Soul higher than this car! I drove all three and this car is a standout! Smooth drive and plenty of pickup on acceleration. The cargo space is so much better than the Kona which was as small as my old Versa. Many options for safety. It feels solid and drives great. I recommend it highly.

Let's be HRV positive!
If you're planning to purchase the HRV I must mention that the leg room for anyone taller than six feet (like my husband) is better than the fit, yet I believe it's because the car sits up higher(added bonus for those with carseats or authoritis). The driver seat adjusts up or down, so I can crank the seat up and sit back a little further from the steering wheel (which is fabulous). Next, I love the HRV sport because of its all black interior. Compared to Toyota's interior , the HRV cloth is less likely to leave water stains( I have dumped 3 liters of water on the seat with no issues). The seats are uncomfortable on 2 hours or longer trips because they feel harder and less supportive than that of a fit or even a 2016 Nissan frontier(yet we are grateful for more leg room). If you like the back up camera, prepare to clean it often. This camera is in a poor location compared to my 2015 Honda fit or my 2016 Nissan frontier, though it is an added bonus when I can see out of it. I love the way the car drives, but there is some rattling... I have read that's normal for the HRVs. Next, passengers love the rear seat room. I wish there were USB ports in the rear, but nonetheless we will manage. The windshield wipers in the front and rear are fabulous! It is one thing I loved about my fit too. Let's talk about getting into the rear deck lid... you must have the key fob in hand, car off, and be standing in the back to push a button to open the rear deck lid... shopping trips were more fun with my 2015 honda fit... but the storage in the HRV is awesome with the possibility of laying the rear seats down for extended space( I can fit a large metal dog crate in the back and have room for luggage). Overall, the HRV is like the fit, with worse gas mileage, more leg and head room, and better locations for the cool cupholders, but the AWD is an added bonus. The HRV is great for those seeking an AWD,and average gas mileage. I average 28-30 mpg driving 40 miles to work ,one way , over mountains and around curves, so it does fairly well, especially with its' handling. Buy the car because of the positives, it equals out. I love it and I plan to keep it as long as my 2003 honda civic that has well over 300,000 miles. I'm a faithful Honda owner and will continue owning one for my daily driver.

Love my new Honda HVR Sport at 85 yrs old.
I checked a lot of ratings, and drove some. Immediatly I could tell the difference in the weight of the door, and other features were above others.
Easy to park
Sharp looking little car that so many other automakers try to emulate. Nice lines. Disappointed in mileage (28-31mpg)and no hybrid available. I did get the AWD option. Works great over a rough driveway , but cuts the turning radius down. Lane assist keeps me on my toes while driving at night. PS it cannot see the lines on a wet road unless they are bold and yellow!! Poor storage around the driver. Arm rest somewhat short, and if you pull it forward, you loose the back cup holder. Speaking of which. The cup holders are adaptable from coffee cup size to tall mugs. Nice gadget. The 0-60 sluggish. Breaking decent. It’s spot on if it thinks you are getting too close to another car. When you use cruise control you can set how close you can get to another car. I learned the hard way while on the busy freeway, to set it allowing cars to be closer, otherwise the car “steps on the breaks” for you, almost got rear ended.Ride is quiet, but got mine with Michelin tires. Mine is all black. I am planning to get good window tint all around including sunroof and front windshield to keep UV rays out. The silly dashboard rug I got on Amazon, custom cut for the car works great at eliminating glare and keeping it cooler. The short angled back window prevents excess heat there. Nice to have a rear wiper. Automatic headlights are working well. But like the instructions say, best use high beams manually when on curvy or hilly roads, otherwise they don’t turn off in time for oncoming traffic. Overall 7.8/10
Awesome
Even though theres not a whole lot of gadgets. All the safety features make me feel very safe on the road.

Very Nice!
I drove the top of the line Touring model. Fit and finish were excellent. Handling was good. Seems like a great everyday driver; lots of cargo room, good visibility, excellent fit and finish. Some things that were not so great; lack of power for a small suv, lack of rear seat vents, lack of power tailgate. For the Touring model, Honda could have upgraded all of those. In fact from the Sport and EX models, those should have all been upgraded. MIleage was good, but for the lack of power, it seems that it could have been better.

A Perfect Fit
I had size restrictions and the 2019 Honda HRV EXL AWD is perfect for me. Good gas mileage, plenty of cargo area, good safety features, all wheel drive, love the audio, and feel confident owning a Honda again. The red color is outstanding - I actually feel 20 years younger! Affordability, practicality, safety and joy in driving are mine again. Now after 7 months driving my HRV I'm appreciating it more and more. Great visibility and find the break hold button a good feature. An update: it's now a year later and I'm as much in love with the HRV as when I first purchased it.

Honda Reliability in Question.
Within the two-year ownership, my 2019 HRV has two recalls; a CVT software upgrade and a defective fuel pump. At 12,000 odometer miles, it has a leaking hose atop the engine block, and the air conditioning unit is blowing warm air. Buyers beware.

A lot of regret!!!
I bought the new 2019 Honda HR-V Sport AWD a couple months ago and I CAN NOT stand it! I feel like Fred Flintstone when trying to merge onto the highway it’s so slow, I mean slow to the point it's dangerous if you have a short merging ramp uphill. I can feel every single minute bump in the road through the seat, pedals, and steering wheel. The sport model doesn't have automatic headlights, glove box lights, nor lights in the cargo area so good luck finding anything at night. Oh and it needed a "software update" at only 5,000 miles to lessen engine vibrations! I thought the transmission was crapping out and to be honest I'm still not convinced it's ok. It shifts rough from reverse to drive and is runs loud in the cold. Basically, it's a crap car aside from getting great gas mileage (because it's so slow), it handles well in the snow, and it's visually better looking than a lot of its competitors in my opinion. Those pros don't outweigh the cons for me. For reference I've previously had a 98 Ford Contour, a similar aged Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, & a 05 Lexus RX. I had no complaints about any of those so a 2019 ANYTHING not being able to compete is unacceptable in my book. I absolutely regret this purchase.
Sorry Honda
Bought honda hrv 2019 a few weeks ago and already feel sorry I bought it! The engine has some knocking sound and a bit loud accompanying with a liitle vibration and the car jerks and breakes abraptly with a light press on the break pedal. Sorry honda this is my first and last honda I have ever bought I just wish for the amount I bought I bought something different such as Mazda or Toyota

Its great
I traded in my 2018 Civic Hatchback for the 2019 HRV Sport AWD... I love the car. I think I made a great choice and feel like I am back my old Toyota. Mixed with modern technology and old features I was able to adjust pretty quickly. The paddle shifters are better used for braking. Keeping the car clean and waxed will keep paint from fading. Gas MPG due to stop and go, city, or idle commuting, it’s just common physics. Today’s vehicles are made for longer commutes not 2mile 10min drives. So I get why the MPG is not adding up. I love the space and convenience of it all. It is perfect for a family of 5.

Great Little SUV!!!
Don't let its small size fool you-the HRV has a LOT of space inside-from legroom to cargo space/solutions-just Fantastic!!! I think the 140 hp engine is just fine in power-I haven't had any issues getting up to speed quickly & no issues with accelerating engine noise-it may be there but it doesn't standout to me at all. It drives well and Fuel economy is Excellent for a SUV. Been getting anywhere from 28-31 mpg depending on more city or highway driving. Love the auto door locks & leather interior on this EXL. Extremely Happy with the HRV!!!

Good potential wasted on puzzling decisions.
Gas pedal vibration is unacceptable. My foot goes numb after about 15-20 minutes of driving. Braking is uncomfortable as it feels like the vehicle wants to throw you through the windshield under even light braking. Gas mileage isn't as good as the EPA estimates show. Driving in a fuel conscious manner to maximize fuel mileage, I am struggling just to hit EPA city. Lesser complaints: the LCD on the instrument cluster is very dated and cluttered. The 5" screen on the LX is absolutely useless. The humorously over-engineered cupholders don't work real well. The Econ button, as far as I can tell, doesn't do anything other than put a green tree on the cluster, I get no better gas mileage with it. The black interior is too black, there just isn't any contrast to the interior colors, it's just a black hole.

Transmission Failure at 85,000 Miles
I purchased a new 2019 AWD HR-V Sport and had it 100% dealer serviced - the transmission failed at 85K miles. I did not purchase any warranty past the 60K mile one but my dealer said that Honda is going to cover the cost if I pitch in $1000 and pay for an alignment. I had no other issues the vehicle up to this point, even the tires are still original. I run this car mostly on the highway, 85K in less than two years, 30mpg average. Love the cargo space. Feels underpowered.

I just purchased a 2019 Honda HRV Sport 4WD.......I LOVE IT!!!! It's the 1st Honda and SUV I have owned. I've only had it less than 2 wks but I really love it...I avg 25 mpg around town....haven't been on the highway yet. It rides great, it's everything I always wanted. I test drive a couple other suvs, Ford's, etc...didn't care for them. I recommend this vehicle!

Not happy with the HR-V
I have owned several Honda's and the HR-V is my least favorite. I would not get it again. It is completely gutless coming out of a red light. Zero power. I've owned many 4 cylinder vehicles and this one is by far the worst regarding power & noise (the engine is very loud, rough). Second least favorite thing is that the sunroof can't be open while the car is moving. It will blow you out of the car. Thirdly, aside from the two drink compartments, all other compartments are so tiny, nothing will fit into them. The exterior looks nice, but other than that, I cannot recommend this car.
Crappy gas mileage — very disappointing
The actual mpg is far worse than claimed by the manufacturer. The claimed mpg is 29 city, 32 hwy. while I’m well aware those figures are pretty much always exaggerated, the actual mpg my 2019 Honda HR-V gets is 18-19 mpg in the city, and 19.8 mpg combined city and hwy. This is the same mpg my 12 year old Subaru Outback was getting when it was on its last legs. Gas mileage this low is wholly unacceptable on a 2019 compact SUV. I’m sorry I bought the vehicle.

Nice car but issues with paint fading on rocker pa
So far love the car but the black paint on the rocker panels is fading near the rear tires. The entire rocker panel on both sides is fading but very bad in the curves near the rear. Honda just read the warranty details and sais nothing they can do. Brand New 2019 vehicle and it looks the crap already...
Big price for a “C-“ car
The HR-V was not what I expected. I’ve owned a 2002 Civic Ex, a 2010 Accord EX, and now own a 2014 Pilot Touring. The Honda quality standards that I thought I would encounter in the HR-V were void. It was somehow rough, seemed void of any fun characteristics that make me enjoy my Honda purchases. I knew that the front seats would be uncomfortable for distance driving, and the back seat—though a great functional design idea—are “junky”. I would not want to sit back there; why would I want someone else to? After my encounter, I took a step back, and for $1600 more bought a CR-V EX with all the quality and fun I’ve enjoyed in my Honda vehicles. Perhaps I was expecting a re-do of the Accord Hatchback from back in the ‘80s, but my disappointing encounter with the HR-V led me to confidently buy a CR-V that I know I’ll enjoy for many years to come.
Weird in some ways, but so cute
I have had my HR V since the end of December and love the look and drive of it, but it is rather odd in giving you "hours on engine" and other odd information that is not really what I prefer. Love the "burnt orange color", so easy to find in parking lots! Height is perfect for slipping in and out, but trying to open gas tank, I actually have to open my door to get my fingers around the little curved opener. Love the visability! A bit tippy when going down by driveway to the road as the wheel base is so small. My son finds it rather small for him, but I would consider this for women and smaller men. IT'S FUN TO DRIVE!!!!

I love it. I live the Accord but they are too expensive. Did not want another car payment right now but had no choice. The last one was a 2010, at bit the dust at 115,000 but this is a small SUV which is good. I dont like big ones! Happy!. It drives great and has lots of bells and whistles for less money than the Accord

Hooray For Honda HRV- SUV
Second one I have owned and love it! No lag in acceleration Great gas mileage Smooth ride Gorgeous interior PERFECT
Still an Awesome ride!
I bought the HR-V sport awd brand new. All recalls have been fixed. A/C dilemma is over. It is an awesome ride. Doesn't have the luxury but for what it's worth it gets the job done! I see people complain about it get up and go but I have no problems must be the driver! Remember the car picks the driver not the other way around. I now have had this suv for 3 years. I have no problems. I have driven to Maryland and back No issues. It has only 29,000 miles give or take in 3 years. Awesome just Awesome! It now has has over 40k and still runs like I just bought brand new. No hiccups fluids are maintained at recommend intervals. Rus and rides awesome. I average 30 mpg in the city and 34 mpg highway and its a AWD Sport! UPDATE: Ok ok I wrote many reviews on the 2019 Honda HR-V Sport AWD. Funny thing is that the gas mileage that's on paper doesn't match what it actually gets. I average 30-32 mpgs in the City yeah I said it and it's all at normal speed. No "gooseing it" hwy I average at 70 mph 36-38 mpgs. The by no means is loaded with features but with a savvy driver this SUV delivers! Now some say when I step on the accelerator it has no pick up well.... duh you are restricting the power! It isn't built for impatient young or adult persons who have an excessive lead foot! It's a family SUV. Works and performs I hate to say it but perhaps better than its counterparts like the CRV. Just saying if you have one take good care of it it will take care of you when you need it most!

Great Honda!
This is a great car, my only question was how the slightly underpowered engine would perform, and it's just fine. If you like to drive too fast with more horsepower than you can handle, you should look at something else. I don't care for either, so the Honda HRV is absolutely perfect for me. Well done Honda!

Run, Don't Walk from buying a Honda HRV
Where do i start? Since, i bought this vehicle new in 2019 i have had nothing but problems. Multiple recalls (fuel pump, brakes, etc.). Now, a massive water leak has developed creating a lake on the drivers side floor. Water also infiltrated behind the dashboard causing the electronics system to go haywire and the alarm system to go off repeatedly. All problems being reported by multiple Honda HRV owners. I am afraid to even drive this vehicle as i fear for mine and my family's safety. It's still under warranty with only 17K miles.

Needed more cargo room
Traded our 2017 leased Honda Civic in for a 2019 HR-V. So far we love it (have only had it for a few days). We travel across country twice a year, and needed more space for our “stuff”, since we are gone for 2-1/2 months.

Never buying a Honda again
I bought my car in the summer of 2019 and I’ve driven less than 5,000 miles and my car stopped all of a sudden today. There was no issue whatsoever with my car because the fuel tank was halfway full and everything was in perfect condition. The car started vibrating/shaking all of a sudden and braked in between the vibrations and then just stopped and turned off itself. I also had a fuel tank recall a few months ago and I would NOT recommend Honda or the HR-V to anyone.
Honda hrv awd sport
Great car with awesome power if you can drive it! The electronic instrument panel that ties to your smart phone is awful I hate to say. Dealer is unable to repair.

Great safety features
Can keep blind spot camera on all the time. Also can set brake so when braking a lot you can take foot off brake. In mode to save gas, pickup not great
