Used 1991 GMC Sierra 1500 Consumer Reviews
Reliable
I used to drive this truck hard every day as a ranch truck. It has been the best performing 1/2 ton 4X4 I have ever owned. There is currently 340000 miles on the original 350 engine, and it still passes CA smog tests with flying colors. The auto tranny has to be rebuilt every 100000mi. Have had electrical problems with lights and the heater controls. Other than that this is a nice truck for the year and money.
I'm a GM truck man, that's all I drive
I bought the truck from a friend, and I had to put a new tranny in it before I could drive it. That is all I have had to do the truck. It has been a really good truck for me. I used to drive it to work(1200 miles a month) over a mountain pass and never let me down.

Great truck
Bought this truck about two years ago and have not had a problem since. Dropped a brand new engine and transmission in and it runs perfect. I have flowmaster mufflers coming off of edelbrock headers get 24 miles to the gallon on the highway with a 350 v8 which is unheard of. Runs perfect and no imperfections or complaints at all.
Eric's Power House
This is a very good running truck. Add a K&N off road air system, hooker headers, and hypeteck TBI power charger. All available at jegs.com. You will be able to run with any new vortec engine. I raced a 19997 chevy truck with vortec 350 and a jet pwer programmer and I beat them.
Good worker
Even after over ten years on the original engine, I just had to put head gaskets in and adjust the tension on the shift cable. It has over 150,000 miles and it is still going. The white paint is chipping away and has since just a couple years after it was new.
One to keep!
It was a lease back, had 116000km on it. At 240000km rebuilt auto tranny. It has 350000km on it now and I have to get the tranny fix. It has been to Oregon. I drove it to the mountains sledding for ten years and never missed a beat. Now I pull my fishing boat and take it hunting every year. Great truck!
My Good Ol' Truck
This truck has lasted me far longer than I ever thought it would. I purchased it in late June of '05 for a massive $1,500. Almost a year later, I have had to replace only items that are reasonable considering the age and the mileage (244k) of the truck. Although I love this truck, the body is starting to show its age. The straw that broke the camel's back was the fact that the fuel pump went out on me last week, so I have decided to replace the ol' girl with a newer, lower mileage GM truck. Overall, this thing was a workhorse and loved every minute of it.
Keep on Truckin'
An '89 Acura might be more reliable, but not by much. This work horse has been abused and overloaded, has towed 3500 pound trailers over the continental divide hundreds of times, hauled hundreds of emergency professionals through several foot snowfalls, etc., etc. Makes it through stuff that the new "luxury" SUVs can't even think about. When I'm ready to replace it in another 20 years, I hope the new ones are as good.
One Good American Truck
I bought this truck January '10, and it had 72,000 miles on it. Yes, 72,000 miles on it. I bought it from the original owner who bought it when he retired in 1989. It had only the week before had its first new set of tires in 20 years! Today, 10/22/10, this truck now has 82,000 miles on it, and has had nary a problem other than catching up on a bit of routine maintenance, a hose or two, filters, brake pads etc. It has cranked every time, and rides very well for a pickup truck. I'm looking forward to owning this truck for a very long time.
Bull Dog of a Truck
This truck goes no matter what. Dependable and worth every penny I paid for it. 4.3 V-6 auto (Turbo 400) has over 200,000 miles on it, still passes e-check in Ohio, and doesn't smoke, knock, ping, or falter. Would like an extended cab even more, and one of those will be the only reason I give this one up.
Tough, Reliable Pick-up truck
When I bought mine it was in semi rough shape but after changing plugs, wires, brakes and fluids and filters; the major stuff she ran like a champ for the year and a half I had her. Also did random tinkering like new master cylinder and gas and brake lines for good measure and just to be safe but for being only rear wheel drive she got me through 1 and a half harsh Wisconsin winter's with 25+ inches of snow she roared through it with ease loved this truck by far my favorite vehicle I ever owned. Sold her bc needed something a little better on gas. Will be getting another in the future!

My truck
I've bought this GMC new 14 years ago. I may drive it until I retire. It's reliable and gets the job done. It hauls like a truck and rides like a car.
Ski's review
Outstanding reliability. Bought it used with 70K on it and now have 205K with only routine maintenance. Doesn't leak a drop of any fluid and runs great. Oh yes...no rust anywhere and I'm in the midwest.
Great truck for the money
Its a great pickup truck for the money if you find one with low miles, build quality if alright if you don't mind 90's GM but the 4.3L V6 engine is pretty strong and the 4 speed transmission can drop gears really hard. just do your monthly oil change and you'll be fine. One thing you might want to do is put sandbags in the bed of the truck because snow and ice is not the trucks strong suite. Due to the fact that its 90's GM metal you'll be fine in a crash. was recently in a front-end collision with a ford fiesta, it just pushed in the chrome bumper and bent the left fender, i just pulled the bumper and it drives fine.

The enviornment is perfect as a guy that works outdoors for a living.-25c it was warm and cosy after a day framing houses on the Manitoba praries same when mid july when the temps. were +35c that air cond. cooled off just right. At work it worked, and it is so pretty you could go to the theater in the evening and the fellas in caddys wished they were driving my GMC.
1991 gmc sierra reliability
No serious problems except the brakes which a lot of problems with the ABS and internal failures of the front brake hoses that failed internally.
