The 2022 Genesis G70 has matured into one of the more elegant-looking small luxury sedans. It delivers excellent value, a potent V6 engine, a comfortable interior, and a good set of standard advanced driver aids. However, a tight back seat, a tiny trunk and subpar fuel economy keep the G70 from attaining true greatness.

The new touchscreen is a big improvement over the previous unit, and it includes new features such as more natural voice recognition and over-the-air software updates. On the advanced driver aids front, the G70's new highway driving assist system uses lane centering and adaptive cruise control to take the edge off longer highway drives.
You're also in for a lot of fun when the road starts to curve. This is among the sportiest cars in the class thanks to lively handling and strong engines. The available 365-horsepower V6 is particularly rewarding — it produces prodigious power without having to work very hard. Also available is a sophisticated all-wheel-drive system that can enhance traction for wet-weather conditions as well as the G70's playful handling attitude.
Already a solid luxury sport sedan, the refreshed 2022 G70 exudes even more quality and attention to detail. It feels every bit as well built as its rivals, which include the Audi A4/S4, BMW 3 Series, Lexus IS and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Check out our Expert Rating for our test team's full report.
Edmunds Expert Rating
edmunds TESTED
by the Edmunds Experts
Average
7.6
out of 10
We drove the 2022 Genesis G70 on our test track and on real roads. Our Edmunds team conducts rigorous independent vehicle testing, driving 500,000 miles a year.
Performance
7.5/10
How does the G70 drive? The G70 has a potent V6 and good steering feel, and it's easy to drive. The turbocharged V6 develops 365 horsepower, making it one of the quickest in class, and it sprints to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds. With a healthy 376 lb-ft of torque on tap, the G70 doesn't have to do much downshifting, either. But we did find the transmission a little reluctant to downshift when we eventually called for it.
There's potential for the G70 to be a fun car to drive, but we found it a bit floppy in the corners. Its all-wheel drive lacks sophistication, and the all-season tires don't deliver the grip to balance out the power. Tires also affect braking numbers. Our test car came to a stop from 60 mph in 125 feet, which is subpar for the class.

Comfort
8/10
How comfortable is the G70? The seats deliver the all-day comfort we expect from Genesis, and the suspension does a nice job of absorbing sharp bumps. The G70 has a noisier cabin than other luxury competitors. It's a very quiet cruiser on smooth roads, but road noise on rough pavement can be intrusive. The climate control does a good job of maintaining cabin temperature, and the seat heaters work quickly.
Interior
7.5/10
How’s the interior? The G70 has a well-crafted interior with pleasant materials and touchpoints, and it's easy to find a comfortable driving position thanks to a generous range of adjustments. It's logically laid out, and the central touchscreen infotainment interface has a sharp screen that's easy to see and responsive to inputs.
The G70 is not the easiest car to get into or out of. The back seat is tight, with a stingy amount of space for toes under the front seats. Its sleek roof profile may not impart an open feel, but outward visibility remains pretty decent by luxury sedan standards.

Technology
7.5/10
How’s the tech? If having the latest luxury tech is a priority, the G70 will mostly satisfy. It's packed with advanced driver aids, all of which work decently well. Apple and Android smartphone integration is standard and simple to use but still requires a cable. Some rivals offer wireless connectivity.
Less impressive is the standard audio system, which won't wow anybody. Onboard navigation is nice to have but doesn't break any new ground. The voice controls work for navigation and radio functions but do not control vehicle functions.

Storage
7/10
How’s the storage? The G70 isn't particularly practical for a sedan, although the cabin offers a decent number of spots to store and organize small items. The trunk has a generous opening, but at 10.5 cubic feet, it's small even for the class. Larger suitcases could be a very tight fit, but if you need additional room and don't have extra rear passengers, you can always fold down the rear seats.
Although car seat anchors are pretty accessible, bulkier car seats will likely impinge on front seat space due to the limited room in the rear.
Although car seat anchors are pretty accessible, bulkier car seats will likely impinge on front seat space due to the limited room in the rear.
Fuel Economy
6.5/10
How’s the fuel economy? The Genesis G70 lags most of the class with just 20 mpg combined (17 city/25 highway) for the AWD turbo V6. There are a couple sporty sedans such as the Acura TLX Type S and Mercedes-Benz AMG C 43 that are close, at 21 and 22 mpg combined, respectively, but many are far more efficient. Even the base four-cylinder G70 maxes out at 24 mpg combined, which is also lower than most. On our 115-mile evaluation loop, the G70 returned 23.7 mpg, which is at least a promising sign that real-world fuel consumption shouldn't be far off the EPA estimates.
Value
8/10
Is the G70 a good value? Genesis gives you a solid list of standard features at an enticing starting point that undercuts the luxury competition by a couple of thousand dollars. The exterior and interior feel solidly and luxuriously built, with nice materials adorning the inside trim panels. The large infotainment screen ties the whole interior together nicely. Standard and powertrain warranties continue to be best-in-class.
Wildcard
8/10
The G70 was once a lively, engaging luxury sport sedan but it now feels a little sloppy compared to its closest competition. Acceleration is still potent, but straight-line speed alone is no longer enough to create a good car. That said, the G70's elegant new design, along with better interior materials and a larger infotainment screen, make an excellent impression. There's little debate that the G70 now at least looks like a top player in the segment.
2022 Genesis G70 trim level differences
The 2022 Genesis G70 is available in three trim levels: 2.0T, 3.3T and 3.3T Launch Edition. A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (252 horsepower, 260 lb-ft of torque) is standard in the 2.0T, while the 3.3T and 3.3T Launch Edition feature a turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 engine (365 hp, 376 lb-ft). Both engines use an eight-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but you can add all-wheel drive to any Genesis G70. Compare the 2022 Genesis G70 trim levels in-depth.
Which G70 trim does Edmunds recommend?
The G70 2.0T is a good choice if all you need is a blend of performance and efficiency at an affordable price. However, our recommendation is to upgrade to the G70 3.3T. It offers the widest range of features and dramatically more fun behind the wheel thanks to its robust turbocharged V6.

2022 Genesis G70 3.3T 4dr Sedan AWD (3.3L 6cyl Turbo 8A)
I drove an Audi S5, BMW m340i and hesitantly - I decided to go with the G70. Having had it for a week now, I am in awe of everything from the build quality to performance. What started as a decision solely based on cost savings has turned into an affection for the brand. And having switched from a Tesla model 3, I am blown away by this vehicle’s performance. Its an absolute machine. … Downfalls include the partly digital cluster, though you get used to it quickly. I think they could clean up the interior by getting rid of most of the chrome, but we’re splitting hairs at this point. I love the G70 and arguably will be a fan for life. Not to make sure they keep their promise on the service side and hopefully, this amazing warranty holds true too. Time will tell but I’m in love.

2022 Genesis G70 3.3T 4dr Sedan (3.3L 6cyl Turbo 8A)
I took a test drive on the highway and then around a few city turns, then looked again at the features on the window sticker and the drive-out price and asked my sales person where to sign so I could drive it home asap. The G70 got my attention back in 2020 but at the time we opted for the Accord 2.0, which is no slouch, because of price and practicality as the grocery getter. This time, … for our 2nd car, the G70 with advanced package and RWD sat in the sweet spot. The exterior looks even better after the refresh as does the dash. This machine is beautiful in and out. I also had to make sure my golf bag fit in the smallish trunk and it did. I drove MB and Audi between '06 and '20 and while I loved them both, the price/performance ratio on this G70 can't be beat.
BMW to G70 - No Regrets, but Room for Improvement

2022 Genesis G70 3.3T 4dr Sedan (3.3L 6cyl Turbo 8A)
I thought my BMW 330is was quick off the line and zippy enough to get me into trouble - but after test-driving the 2022 3.3L Genesis G70 Sport Prestige, I KNEW this car was fast enough to get me into trouble! Stunning sport-mode acceleration and a grip on the road as good or better than its sports sedan contemporaries made it easy to trade the Beemer in for this car. Really cool looking … - especially in Havana Red. My BMW was good looking, but it never turned any heads. The G70, however, gets looks and questions - the most common: "What IS this?" G70 Sport Prestige PROS: Rocket ship acceleration; superb sports sedan handling but cushy in selectable comfort-mode; comfortable front seats; lots of cool technology; gets lots of attention (careful, that includes from the cops); massive Brembo brakes; smart cruise control with decent auto-pilot steering (not quite as good as Tesla); excellent climate control. CONS: Mediocre fuel economy; small fuel tank (short range); tight back seat; lacks some advanced features like automatic parking/unparking; driver profiles not stored in key fob like my BMW (a pain with a car shared with my short wife); someone's idea of "stereo" is a single main audio speaker in the dash. Excellent sound quality, but everything balanced to the center-front instead of left-to-right (can be "sort-of" adjusted with fader control to overcome this); trunk space is fair. That said, the G70 offers great bang-for-the buck high-end luxury and performance. Compared with BMW, MBZ, Acura, Infinity and Audi, I have no regrets spending my money on the Genesis.
Love the car; customer experience, not so much

2021 Genesis G70 2.0T 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 8A)
I’ve had my 2021 G70 for a month now and I love the way it drives, looks, feels, and sounds. This is a Prestige with every bell and whistle available. The interior is amazing: I just sink in and enjoy the drive, even if it’s just to the store and back. But getting this car in my garage was a torturous process of awful local dealership experiences that evoked third-rate used car lots … rather than a luxury brand (I ended up traveling 200 miles away to get this car). I went in for my first service today (locally) and the experience was just as bad. Genesis/Hyundai: train your people! You will never be a competitive luxury brand when every customer experience is a joke. Up your game. Don’t make me regret that I bought this car. The 5 stars is for the car ONLY. Customer experience is 1-star.
