THE Ranger

This is my third Ranger. All trucks were great and lasted a long time. Two of my previous Rangers averaged 200,000 miles plus. This being my gift to myself for 42 years working for HEB. I have the crew cab sport truck. It looks great, runs great, and is fun to drive. I couldn’t be happier. I would like to say this is my last Ranger, but who knows, I may step up to big brother in the future and get me a F150. Oh the service department is by far the best in the business. Maxwell Ford bar none, is The Best Texas. I will buy my next vehicle from Maxwell. Thanks guys for all the great work and keep it up.

The good and bad

I'll get right to it. My 2020 XL STX drives horrible in D mode. It's actually un drivable in D with low grade gas. The fuel injection can't figure out the 1,3,5 transmission change at take off. I can only drive it in S mode and tow sway. And I have to use premium gas or it's jerky at take off. I get 20.3 town and highway combined, which ain't what they advise. The shocks on the XL STK are terrible. I can't even sip coffee while driving. I thought since I was spending a lot on a truck, the shocks would be decent. They're not. I will say, the truck performs great with full payload. Power is there. Leaf springs are great. I haven't towed anything, so no review on that. Drive seat cloth wrinkles. Window switches are in terrible spot. Heat and air C buttons are confusing. It's a strange truck. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because of the power and payload. This truck is a work horse. The turbo is legit.

Truck is fun to drive. Picks up speed quickly when needed. Comfortable ride. I only wish it was small like the old Rangers, but it does just fit in my garage. I get so many compliments on the look. I had it leveled in the front bc it was too low. Had it for 1.5 yrs with no problems so far.

Now at 58k, no issues to report except the loss of 2 tires to road debris. Did hit 32.7 mpg on a 450 mile trip. Averaging 25 around town. Love the responsiveness, the quiet cab, dependable tech, and overall use. Towed for the first time, about 4000lb, 17mpg, more than enough power. Very happy so far, except I would recomend one additional service recommendation....transmission fluid, from all I've read, at 50 to 60 k.
