Great american sport wagon
We were looking for practical vehicle with 7 seats and good cargo space. I and my wife like to drive cars and really didn't want to have a minivan. I've tried new Pathfinder, Pilot, 4Runner, Highlander and Explorer. All of them except Highlander have truck feeling driving. Highlander feels underpowered even with V6 engine. On Freestyle after 2 minutes of driving we realized this was exactly what we were looking for! Freestyle handles like an European luxury big car (thanks to Volvo S80 suspension). Even with 7 seats there is enough cargo space in the back. Freestyle feels a little underpowered on starting, but great when speed increased (thanks to CVT). Gas mileage is good for this vehicle.
Better than expected
Other than a lack of acceleration our Freestyle has exceeded our expectations. The interior is roomy and offers many seating and cargo options. The drive and feel of a medium to large sedan. Exterior looks and finish are exceptional. Ford has developed a fine crossover between SUV and van, it offers the best qualities of both.

Not all I hoped for
Purchased this car for functionality, comfort and versatility. 3 yrs and 55K miles later, I have gone through 3 sets of tires, 4 alignment adjustments and 2 new sets of rear disc brakes. (front brakes are fine) Very happy with interior and amenities. Will always have a DVD system now as I loved this one. Ford was thinking of themselves when they built this one as you can only get wiper blades through Ford, and only Pirelli makes the necassary size tire. (not cheap!) Loved the flexibility of the 3rd row option and a great car for road trips. Would like for it to have lived up to the mpg. (average 19 and 22) Extremely disappointed with the resale value. Trading it for a used Lexus SUV.
Great car!
Comfortable to drive, easy for kids to get in and out of. Great flexibility with 3rd row seat or fold it flat for cargo space. I love this car. I wish they had come out with this car years ago. Have had two Ford minivans and this doesn't even compare to them. Doesn't feel like a van, doesn't feel like a truck but has the capabilities of both. I honestly cannot find one thing I don't like about this vehicle.
Love It!
Traded our monster '03 Expedition in for the Freestyle. We could not be happier. Since kids we have had three vans, the Expedition, and now the Freestyle. The Freestyle is our favorite by far! You have all the room - without it being a minivan or a hard to park, gas eating large SUV. There is more room behind the back seat for strollers, groceries, etc. than in my Expedition. I also like how easy it is to get everyone in and out. Access to the rear seat is easy, with lots of leg room for our 6 foot tall, 14 year old son. I have had no trouble with acceleration at all. I use I-95 several times per week, and the merge is always easy - up to speed in no time, without flooring it.
