Used 2002 Ford Focus SE 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl 5M) Consumer Reviews
My Focus is a lemmon
Only 7000 miles on it and it's been in for repairs three weeks and counting. The engine shutdown and would not start. Towed in. Two weeks in shop. Three days later. Same thing. Towed in. Ford stopped paying for my car rental. Now I have no car to drive. Last Ford I will buy.
A good unfinished product
My 2002 Focus SE-Sport sedan is a practical, spacious and enjoyable car. However, Ford did not "push the envelope" when delivering this car in 2000. The fit and finish are probably the biggest problem: materials are of ok quality but various parts are not well adjusted. The Ztec engine provides sufficient power for this class but it's too noisy and has low fuel efficiency considering it's only a 2.0 litre. Still, I enjoy my Focus very much and am looking forward to the next generation due to appear later this year.

Not What You Expect
My experience with this car has not been a pleasant one. Three weeks after I purchased my Focus, it broke down. I came to find out that the stick shift had come loose while I was driving it. If you are planning on purchasing this car for a family, especially with small children, I would advise against it. The interior has very little room for taller people. If you have a child that is in a rear facing car seat, be aware that the passenger or driver will have limited space. Another thing I have found wrong with this car is its many blind spots. I have had numerous close calls with other cars due to the lack of veiwing space out the windows.
Do NOT buy a Ford Focus!
Despite regular maintenance and only 52,000 highway miles, the engine completely blew up. $4K to repair! Lots of rattles and very loud going highway speeds. Rear power window mechanism broke for no apparent reason. Radio would turn itself off on a daily basis. Fuel efficiency was about 30 mpg and it handled okay, but who cares when the engine goes at 52K miles?! Whatever you do, stay away from this car. Just because it's popular doesn't mean it's a good choice! Ford does NOT stand behind this car. Better get the extended warranty because you'll certainly need it. There are better ways to spend your money -- the Focus isn't the answer.
Focus, My Experience.
I have 45,000 miles on the 2002 Focus SE 4 Door Sedan I have it regularly serviced and have not had a major problem to date. The Focus is not that bad of a car if you are on a budget. I would not pay over 13K for a Focus under any circumstance. It would be a great student car, either for a college or high school student. The Focus definitely has limitations, size of course is one thing, but for a compact it isn't that bad. I'm a big guy (6'3, 250) so a Focus is a bit small for me, but I can manage. Other limitations is power. Fuel Economy is very good, I don't have the exact MPG, but its low 30s MPG.
