Not your Grandpa's Ford
I have been eyeing the 500 sedan for years. I recently purchase a previous experienced Limited 500 with low miles at a great price. I've read all the car magazine reviews and all have said that the 500 lacks engine horses. It's true the 500 isn't a stop light drag racer but put the hammer down and hang on! I've been able to slice and dice alot of unaware BMW, Mercedes and Nissan drivers. Turn off the Traction Control and the 500 will four wheel drift nicely. In sleeper mode the car's ride and comfort is just super. The heated front seats are really nice on those cold morning commutes. All in all a very nice ride.
what a disappointment!
Within the first 600 miles the transmission had to be replaced. In order to fix it they put on an additional 123 miles; said had to road test it ... the cd was replaced 3 times. The seats don't work (still), am driving much too far back. Loud noises in the undercarriage. Oil light keeps going on and Ford's people are totally uncooperative. Car been at the dealer 3 weeks in the three months I owned it. As I wait for the parts to come in, I can only wonder what disaster will happen next!
I miss my 02 SEL Taurus
This vehicle dosn't have the power of my 02 Sel Taurus, you would think having the same motor this car would fly like the Taurus. The 3.0 Duratec in my Taurus would give you whiplash, but not my Five Hundred. The inteior isn't as roomy either, but I'll get use to it. If your tall don't get a Five Hundred without adjustable pedals, the seats don't go back far. I do like the message center, it can be convienent. The Audiophile stereo is better than The Mach that was in the Taurus. It handles pretty good, It has better tires than the Taurus (Continental's) which don't last very long. This car is new for me, bought it used, it's loaded and I'm sure in due time I'll own an 08 Taurus Limited.
Ford 500 a disappointment
A real disappointment inside. Front seats are very uncomfortable. We did a six hour drive with two stops; both of our lower backs were sore. The seats are hard and don't support your lower back correctly. Driver side seat is not in alignment with the steering wheel. Drivers side has no room to extend left leg, passenger side has same problem - can't extend right leg because the front wheel wells are in the way. Very uncomfortable to drive any distance with your legs bent all the time. CVT transmission noisy, has outside wind noise over 50 mph like window open. Steering problems, rear doors at bottom by rear wheel wells paint chipping. Traded in a 2000 Ford Taurus. That was a better car than this 500.
Terrific Car, Totally Under-rated
Bought new in 2006, love it. Am so glad I did not buy another Toyota Avalon, which had expensive 3.0V6 engine problems over and over. Ford was much better bargain in purchase price and maintenance. Now it has 48,000 miles, so far, not one problem. I average 25.2-MPG driving mainly California freeway. Nobody knows what it is. Everywhere I go people comment how cool it looks which is funny, because all the magazine reviewers slammed is "boring" styling. This was a terrific buy I would recommend to anyone.
