1992 Chrysler New Yorker Fifth Avenue

This is definitely an 'old time American car'. The suspension is heavily ride balanced; it doesn't like corners. Comfort for four is excellent; it's a little narrow for five but if they're not big people it should be fine. Leg room is wonderful. The doors open wide for easy access. The 3.3L engine is a jewel, and is known for being very reliable. Transmission requires Mopar-spec fluid. Control placement is decent; it's easy to hit the wrong button on the window/lock controls though. Eight way seat adjustment is wonderful. The radio hides behind the column mounted gear shift. Overall, a great highway cruiser that's done well for us.

I LOVE my car!!!. I sell Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep and I have to tell you, this New Yorker beats the comfort of these new beasts....Hands down. There was a small problem with the shift sensing system...but aside from that...this car is a comfy trooper. It took me to Las Vegas and back and I felt like I was driving in a recliner on clouds the WHOLE trip. I love this car!!!

This is a great car. Rides like a Cadillac. The fuel economy is so so. But a very comfortable and reliable car. Its 3.3 L V6 engine runs ever so smoothly. My car has almost 200k miles on it, thanks to a reconstructed transmission. yet the car still idels smooth, and takes off smoothly. A great, reliable vehicle!

My car has just over 100K miles, the tranny was rebuilt last year along with a new rack and pinion. I have owned this car since 2005 and am the second owner. I have been told by my mechanic that he thinks the timing chain is ready to go, he hears a rattle deep in the motor but the car runs great..I have already put in several thousand dollars to keep this car on the road, I love it. I want to fix it again but wondering when do I give up and get rid of it?

no major problems with this car at 98,560 miles, other than replacement of 16 year old gaskets and other normal maintenance. great value for the money with all the buttons minus leather seats. very satisfied with my car.

Our New Yorker Salon is a great highway car. We've made two trips to Florida this year (over 2,000 miles round trip) with no problems whatsoever. Using cruise control and averaging 64 mph we've averaged 26 to 27 miles per gallon. Not bad for Lee Iaccoca era technology!

Purchased the car used in 1996 from a dealer - no warranty offered. No waranty wasn't a problem, I had no problems other than normal wear and tear since. The most significant problems I had was needing a new fuel and water pump, and that was pretty recent. Bottom edge of rear trunk lid is rusting, seems to be a problem with many of this model I see on the road. The interior has held up well with the exception of the faux wood door trim which popped off all four doors. Overall I have no regrets and would purchase another.

Problems Driving off Lot

This car is comfortable, has all the amenities needed for a Sunday Drive. Air conditioning and alternater died as I drove off the lot, luckly, the dealer replaced both these items at no cost because my back tires still on his curb! Everything else works great, everything in tact. It is a sporty kind of car with the hidden head lamps, kinda fun to drive. Passengers in rear seats say the ride is smooth and comfy.

Best car so far

Well first off I bought the car with 292k for $400. The transmission was replaced b4 io bought it at around 217k. So I took it on a few 600 mile trips got great mpg around 26 spent very little on it over the 2 yrs. Now it has 303k and finally something major broke a connecting rod went through the oil pan. The funny thing is that there wasn't a warning the engine ran so smooth when it happened so I figured that the metal finally fatigued out. The ride was like floating on clouds. Like I said best car I've owned so I'm thinking about buying another motor to keep it the rest alive. Another word I've seen others that were 4sale with 239k or more so there's plenty of life left in these cars.

This car has a lot of problems. We have had to fix a lot of things with it. It cost a lot to repair things on this car. It does not get good gas mileage. We are lucky to get about 20 mph hwy driving. We have had it 7 months and have put over $1,000 into it. If you buy this car, expect to put a lot of money in to it. I am finding others that own one like this and they also have had to put a lot of money into their car.

I like this car a lot. Had to replace the waterpump at 41000- it's been sitting for a year and the bearings probably rusted. Aparently it's tricky to get the accessory belt correctly on for this car. The place that replaced the waterpump for me didn't get it right so I had to take it to another shop. If you notice smell of burnt rubber from the belt and the heat gauge goes up too high and the A/C isn't working anymore, they just need to get the belt on right- nothing else. The shift shock from the transmission is very noticable- old technology I guess. It's stupid that the waterpump is on the serpentine belt- that's for accessories only. It has a timing chain not a belt which is nice.

I put 263,000 miles on this car. It rode like a dream, handled like a sports car, got 28 mpg. Beautiful interior. Dumbest thing I ever did was sell it at 263,000 miles

bought this car knowing it needed a transmission, put a remanufactured 3 year warranty one in and have had no problems at all with it. I get over 20 mph and other than oil changes and one A/C recharge I have put no money into it. People see it and think it is only 3-4 years old. They can't believe it is 10 years plus old.

I've bought this vehicle at ebay almost 5 years ago. I had to replace some parts this past December(most were the original parts that came with the car when new), and now it runs better than ever (my car just hit the 170K mile mark last week). This is the third "New Yorker" my family ever had. My mom had an '89 Landau version (she bought it used at 95K miles and then lost it in an accident 4 years later at 135K miles). I had a 1990 New Yorker (which I bought with 119K miles on it),which I then gave it to my mom when I bought my present car, which then my nephew wrecked it 2 years later (it already had 140K miles when it happened). All these cars were virtually trouble free.

I have always owned Luxury cars. Lincolns Caddys and now my first Fifth Ave. now that I have owned all types i would rank the Fifth Ave 2nd Lincoln First Caddy`s very last I have never been happy with the Caddy from there ride to there comfort. Lincoln on the other hand is the Best. But I do take my hat off to their Fifth Ave as it has been a joy to drive comfort and everything I would expect for a car of it`s class. Truly I am happy with it and would recommend anybody to dive i`m 36 yrs old and will never go sport because I was raised on Luxury

Very Comfortable. Easy to drive. Interior is nice but could have been better designed, but back in 1990 I'm sure it was top of the line.

We have owned this car since we bought it new from the dealer. It has seen two kids through high school and college and is still kicking. We've had only small repair problems along the way. Since the warranty was up, it's been a dream! Sure, it's now ugly and old and has the turning radius of an 18 wheeler, but it's reliable. Unfortunately, someone just hit it - insurance co. said it's totaled. You should see the other car, though. The New Yorker won big time. If you can find one still around, I think the car would be worthwhile for a few years to come.

over 180,000 miles, no mechanical problems yet. Still floats around the city and drives better than my corolla. I have to look at my speedometer constantly because when i'm going 95, it feels like i'm going slow.

I loved this car when I owned it back in the early 2000s. I bought it used in 1999 with 40000 miles on it. Something was always breaking on it, the transmission, alternator, water pump, ac, odometer; but when it ran it was smoooth. Even at 105mph (Only did it once and not for very long.) The velour seats were super comfy but my kids said the tufted back seat looked like the inside of a coffin. If I had the kind of spending money it would take to keep it running I’d get another one. Sigh.
