Overview
The Trax is the most affordable model in Chevy's large SUV lineup and one of the most affordable SUVs on the market. But it's not the smallest SUV Chevy offers. The Trailblazer is similar in size but costs a little more. The Trax is a safe bet if you're looking for an SUV that won't break the bank but still offers good value, a roomy interior and top-notch tech features. With the 2027 Trax entering its fourth year in its current generation, we wouldn't be surprised if Chevy updates the Trax with minor styling revisions or new color and wheel options.
Edmunds spotlight: Trax or Trailblazer?
Chevy makes two subcompact SUVs that are similar in many ways. But which is the better buy? We rate the Trax slightly higher because of its superior driving experience and value, but the Trailblazer might be the better option for some. The Trax costs about $1K to $2K less than the Trailblazer, depending on the trim level, because it offers fewer standard features. So if you have a strict budget, you might want to stick with the Trax. But if not, the Trailblazer's extra features might be worth the money. However, if you need all-wheel drive because of the type of climate you live in, you should go with the Trailblazer because the Trax doesn't offer it.
Competitors to consider
Besides its Trailblazer sibling, there are other worthy competitors to consider. The Hyundai Kona is an all-around excellent alternative, but it costs more. The Kia Niro is another excellent choice because it boasts a roomy cabin and an efficient hybrid engine, but it's significantly pricier than the Trax. The Kia Seltos is closer in price, but we prefer the Trax. The Honda HR-V and Toyota Corolla Cross are other alternatives, but both are more expensive and ranked lower than the Trax in our ratings.
