Hurray for Domestic!
This is the first domestic car I've purchased. Before this, I was in Honda Civics and VW Jettas. My wife was interested in this car for the increased room for our family. At first I was turned off. I'm so very pleasantly surprised. Bought it with 30k, now has 62k. Interior styling is very functional and surprisingly stylish. Exterior is about as sporty as you can get for a four door hatch outside the Audi. Rides like a very substantial car. There is a crazy amount of space inside, so much more than you'd think from the outside. My friends are also surprised and we enjoy tooling around in it. I'm excited that Chevrolet made this car, it's a boon for domestic automobiles.
fun car
really like the maxx, fun to drive. really quiet when windows are up. great AC. there is enough storage room in hatch that i could turn in my suv. lowered my weekly gas expense $15.00. can fit my family of 5 (4 males) inside confortably.

great car
rides like a big car
Big bang for the buck
Nice HP, Impressive equipment, fun to drive.
Under rated new car
I have seen only a few reviews of this new Malibu Maxx and none do justice to the car. The car is fun to drive. Very responsive, well designed and perfectly detailed. It is a very roomy car inside and the wheel base at 113.6" is longer then my Buick Park Ave. The electric steering ,rather than hydraulic steering assist gives me good road feel and the four wheel anti-lock disk brakes give a sure straight stop. I am getting 24 mpg local driving and 34 mpg on mountain trips at high speeds. With some Chevy discounts and including sales tax I paid $19700 for this car and clearly am very pleased
Mini Limo
I loved this car at first sight. It reminded me of a mini limo with its large comfortable backseats and skylight. The rear seats are also able to recline! The only thing I wish was that I had a DRIVER!
Good car
Malibu Maxx is very reliable and fun to drive. Pick up is good and reasonably priced compared to Honda or Toyota. With DVD option my kids love it that makes me to drive comfortably.
My new car
I first saw the Maxx, and was very happy to see a good looking and powerful 5dr hatch in Chevy's line up! I didnt want something big like the Magnum, or too small. The Maxx is just right! Good power and handling from the Epsilon chassis, and plenty of down low power from the 3.5. I would like to see a "SS" model with teh 3.9 and 6spd manual in the future.
A big guy in it
We have had this car for over a year now. The dealership has always treated us right we've have had a few problems, but you can count on that for a new model in the 1st year. Down to the bottom line, would I make the same purchage again? Now I love my truck and I brought this for the wife to commute [174 miles a day]. The anwser is YES. Just wish the inside had a little bit more higher end plastics.Things pop off at times w/ no problems poping them back on. By the way I'm 6'2" 285lbs and I fit in this w/ no problem.
Excellent
I compared this car to others in the same category. Nothing else in the price range could compare. Conservative styling yet sporty. Handles very well and is quite. Wind noise with windows down is an issue. So far excellant mileage (27.8 MPG) Electric steering is effortless and has good feedback.
Maxx=Maximum Versatility & Value
Wonderful car-fast, smooth, quiet, and very airy/roomy. Versatility is AWESOME. Great MPG: averaging 28.5 in 20/80 city/hiway driving, and have hit 32.8 on 5/95 (at 65mph). Value-paid $14,299 after rebate for my '04 Maxx w/floor mats.
I LOVE MY CAR !!!!
I LOVE THE FEEL OF THIS CAR. IT HAS SO MUCH ROOM. People stop me to ask me what kind of car I have , They think it look so great.I was in an accident and was not hurt because this car is built so well. I highly recomend the maxx. The Only Con is that GM had a problem sending one of tha parts. I am still waiting for the new part, and the repair shop had to fix the old part. I get no satifation when I call chevy customer service. That is the only bad experience I have had with this car.
2004 Malibu Maxx
Leased 04 reasonable terms & pricing. Choose this vehicle for mileage rating & cargo space needed for work purposes. It has delivered both. I have been able to haul up two 8 foot ladders, and all necessary paint supplies that I normally would have used my conversion van for. The car averages 26.4 miles a gallon, combined city & hwy driving. All seats have ample leg room, the rear seats recline. There are plenty of extra feature options available. I have enjoyed my remote sunroof, remote starter, rear seat has stereo entertain center, w adapters for a portable cd or dvd player. Cons: car sits very low to ground, pass rv mirror is convex distorts view
Built for Me!
I haven't driven a Malibu since high school (30 some years ago!). I saw the Malibu Maxx at a school function on Thursday, took my husband to the Chevrolet dealer on Sat. and drove home with the Maxx on Sat. evening. I love it, my boys (18 and 21) love it, and I especially love the design and the way the seats fold down for hauling anything from HOme Depot. I told the salesman, the car was made for me!
Great Car
GM is really got a winner. I love everthing about this car including the electronic steering
Malibu Maxx LT
The Maxx has outstnding interior room yet it does not take up much room in my garage. The Maxx handles considerable better than most SUVs and has better gas mileage. Passangers in the rear seats enjoy the standard skylight and adjustable seats. The Maxx come with many features not found on cars of its price class such as rear adjustable seats, Tilt/Telescopic steeling, rear skylight, power adjustable brake and accelerator pedals and remote start. Great overall value.
Great car that's fun to drive
This car is GREAT! There is so much room for passengers, and cargo. I love driving it, and I get so many people telling my car looks great and it is so comfortable.
Very useful vehicle
This car will give you the most bang for the buck when it comes down to price and actual usfulness in a sedan. It fit a full size lawnmower out of the box without a problem with the rear seats folded down. With the recling and adjustable sliding rear seatsand and a sunroof, the passengers in this car will feel at home. The standard 200 HP engine has a great deal of power and low end torque. The transmission does seem to shift harder than it should when a little extra gas is given. Chevy delivers with a vehicle that has the utility, versitilty, and price to get the job done for the person that wants the extra space in a car.
"Seniors" comfort
We love our Maxx. It is low enough to the ground that we don't have to climb up into the seats as we did in our SUV. We travel alot and the hatch makes packing so easy. The sound quality of the radio is superb and we love XM SAtellite radio. It was installed when we bought it; otherwise we probably would never have tried it. We love it! Can listen to CNN, Sports, all types of music channels, and even the old radio shows like Jack Benny and Amos and Andy.
Fun
Walked into dealer wife saw car & fell in love with it. car is loaded with all the great options from side air bags to adjustable pedals.fun to drive.took it home an hour after she looked at.
Love this car
This is the second Maxx for us. The first one had about all the problems possible in one car. We got a buyback on that one and bought another. This is the most versatile car we have ever owned. The rear stereo DVD system is great. The kids and the grandkids can listen to and watch their own music or DVD. On a long trip that is a really good thing. The mileage is really good and it is very comfortable. So much fun to drive it is hard to share. The latch system for child safety seats is one of the greatest safety features along with all of the airbags. We love the look, the ride and overall everything about this car.
Lots of bang for the money!
Very great car, dependable and convenient. A sure keeper. Smooth, quiet drive, lots of room, especially with two youngsters. Cargo is great. Got rid of my Blazer LT for this one, and I do not regret it. Lots of space like an SUV, but handling is far smoother. I will definitely keep this car.
LOVE IT
Just purchased the LT Maxx a couple of weeks ago. Love the comfort, DVD system, dual sun/moon roofs, leather interior, automatic lights, etc. I think that I've made a great choice. You get a luxury feeling without having to purchase a luxury car. My husband and five year old loves it also. Lot's of bang for the buck!
600 Mile Review
Purchased 10/31 and just hit 600 miles this week. Had a Sable wagon, and after discovering that you can't find a 8 passenger vehicle other than minivans or SUVs, went with the 5 passenger Maxx as a compromise on mileage and passenger/storage versatility. I liked the look of the Maxx first time I saw one on the road (and cars don't usually turn my head), and finally figured out last week that the reason is the styling is somewhat reminiscient of my 1980 Fiesta Sport - one of the best cars I ever owned. I put off buying one until the 2005 model, due to the obvious need for spoiler and rear wiper on hatchback models. This is my 2nd ever GM vehicle (Avalanche in '03), and both are winners!
bills hatch
Rock solid,so far. Good mileage, ride and handling. Good buy.
'05 Maxx LT Review
Only 1200 miles...so far, so good. Considered Camry & Accord too but price was tough to beat on the Maxx (after dealer discount & rebate). The added convenience of the rear DVD for our 8 year old sealed the deal. I was impressed with solid structure and overall build quality. With all the features though, I wish they would have incorporated a compass into the rear view mirror like on other GM offerings. The "suede" seat inserts are upscale to the touch but the seats overall do seem to lack side bolstering...but overall are comfortable. I do plan on adding 17" wheels in the spring just to give it a little attitude.
A great family car
Our Malibu Maxx has proved to be a great family car, loaded with unexpected features which enhance its utility and appeal. From delayed door locking to remote starting capability, there is lts here to enjoy. While I have seen some critics of the car's electric steering, it feels fine to me, a former BMW driver. The interior is spacious and well designed. All in all you will enjoy driving this car - and it looks good too.
I love my car
The gas mileage is terrible compared to my prior Chevrolet Cavalier, but thats what i get for upgrading to a V6. All in all, the car is outstanding. Everyone, including myself, loves it.
Good alpine driver
Drives well on hiways and brakes very well at high speeds. Lots of passing power. Nice ride.
My first new car
This was my first new car, previously I owned a '98 cadillac Catera. The performance of the "200" horsepower V6 is incredible, the push button sport shift is precise, smooth, and makes for one fun drive. I am a big kid and like to sit in the back seat w/ my two daughters and play video games on the 7.5 inch LCD DVD screen. It gets way over 30 MPG (I'd estimate around 34) on long highway trips. Last summer we were T-boned @ 30 MPH on the passenger side by a Tahoe, -the car is fine!! This is the first new car my wife/I have ever owned. We couldn't have done better.
I really like this car!
I was looking for a car that would give me flexibility and seating for five without being an SUV. I found it in this vehicle.
Outstanding Value
This car has it all; looks, performance and comfort. My girlfriend is especially prejudiced in favor of Japanese cars but within 5 minutes of taking the wheel of this beauty she was impressed. The electric steering is just plain great making the car very maneuverable in tight places. The adjustable pedals are another wonderful feature for a comfortable driving position. I think this car is the best value of any car on the market especially if you have a GM credit card that gives you 5% rebate towards the purchase of a new car. Mine was $19,200 out the door with sales tax and license.
Solid Car, Great Price!
This car is built very solidly, much better than the Malibu it replaces. Nice touches in the center console and the power adjustable pedals and the telescoping steering wheel are nice features on a car in this price range. Good power from the 200 horse V6, seemless shifting automatic, and commendable handling. Biggest drawback is the cloth interior, which is comfortable, but cheap looking. Like most GM products, I got a big discount, and a sweet lease deal of under $200/mo. for a nicely equipped model.
It's like riding in a limo
Sometimes my 6yr. old and I sit in the back of our Maxx with the seats fully stretched and watch movies while my wife becomes the limo driver. The skylight in the back really adds to the overall ambience. It's never been so much fun being a passenger. I recommend this car wholeheartedly.
Happy with my MAXX!
V6, 200HP, a family car and a rocket ship. Auto Start for those cold days, and a great interior system for comfort. 200 Watt stereo, great climate control, and every seat but the drivers folds down flat so you can haul anything you need! I am very happy, I just wish Chevy had a better warranty, 3 yr 36,000 miles dosen't show me that they have alot of faith in their cars, other foreign companies anre offering the 10/100,000 now, and america should get on the bandwagon!
Maxx is cool
A fun car to drive with superior handling and plenty of horsepower when needed. The instrumentation is user- friendly.
8,000 miles strong
I bought my Maxx last July, and now have over 8,000 miles on it. Every bit as good today as it was driving it home the first time. Great gas mileage, versatile, comfy, reliable. Bought this car to use as a "van" at the World's Longest Yard Sale in Tennessee last year, and it didn't disappoint. There's acres of room for storing and moving, which has come in handy again and again. But I like it because it's a "lady's car". You don't have to jump or climb to get in or out of it. It's got more room than many SUV's, but drives like a lady's car... plus has a ton of great features.
My Chevy Maxx:
What a neat car. Purchased as 2nd car but has become our main car. Rides as good as my 2001 Buck LaSabre. Very quiet, smooth ride. Had to have rear right wheel replaced due to RPM chip being bad. Love the red color, sun roof and rear roof skylights. Took this car to Outerbanks of NC, great gas mileage. On board computer showed 33 MPG on this trip from PA to NC. Real math showed 30 MPG, still good for a hi speed heavy load trip. Sun roof has a rattle when opened. All in all a great car for the price. Steering a bit hard at times. My wife loves it. Lot of rear leg room.
Love It
I bought this car used with 15,000 miles on it. I like the room in this car both front and back. I like the info center. Oh what the heck, I like everything about this car. Only one thing about this car that I can't find is how to shut the heater A/C off. With all buttons in off, it still has air coming through the vents. In my view this is Chevrolet's best keep secret. I have been averaging 33 mpg and it has plenty of power with the 200 horse V6. Anyone thinking about a new car, if they drove a Maxx I think they would be very pleased. To me, it feels like driving a much bigger car. This car just fits
Back to my roots
Reluctant to purchase a domestic car after years of owning Toyotas. Couldn't pass up the incentives. Surprising so, it's a much better car than I expected. It handles well, is quiet, a much better looking interior than the bland Toyotas, and it's very versitle when it comes to hauling those Saturday morning purchases. Only time will tell if the quality has improved over my last Chevy's, I sure hope so. But it's still a good feeling to be back in Chevy's, a good old USA product.
Liking this thing more and more...
Boy-- two months ago, I didn't know I'd be driving one of these. First test drive seemed a bit too large (I was coming off an Elantra), plus I generally prefer a 5-speed. However, the overall balance of the car, plus its tremendous flexibility means that it's a pleasure so far. Car and Driver and Edmunds both knock the engine for being an OHV throwback to earlier times, but the engine seems very responsive-- if not overly smooth, and gets great gas mileage for a 3.5 liter-- within a mile or two of my Elantra. The electric steering has also received knocks, but I find the feedback and overall road feel very good for a car of this size. Maybe GM is getting better with the '05's.
Good comfortable car
Though the Maxx (looking at it as a sedan)is not the best looking in its class, the versatility can't be beat. Very comfortable and easy to drive, exceptionally quiet for a Chevy, almost as much room as a midsize SUV (how often do we really haul stuff?), and better mileage than same. My commute is 40 min. one way. The LT gives you enough creature comforts (that, and saving $10,000) to pacify those of us who almost went to the next level and bought that Maxima....almost.
Surprising Car from Chevrolet
I really like this car. Plenty of room, good driving position (I am 6'3") and excellent fuel economy. City driving is 25-27 mpg and highway driving is 35-29 mpg. No lie. I added a K&N filter to my Maxx and got very good improvements in power and economy. Got it through the Employee Purchase program/rebate and got this car gor a great price. Had a couple of problems with it at first (fuel guage and tire) but were fixed by the dealer with no questions asked. Very quiet on asphalt, a little choppy on concrete, but all-in-all quite comfortable. Bridgestone tires will be replaced with Dunlop or Michelin at the earliest possible time. Outstanding safety features!
Excellent Value
The LS model is equipped with all neccesary equipment. Only items added were front carpets and a dealer installed pinstipe. The 3.5L engine is peppy, smooth and very economical. My wife loves the electic adjustable pedals as well as the fully adjustable steering wheel. Standard seat controls do a good job. This is one of the best GM cars that we have owned. It meets all of our needs and expectations.
Great, fun car for the price
After six months of owning the Maxx I am very satisfied with my decision to buy it instead of a Camray or Accord. The car performs great and is getting great all around gas mileage (26mpg). Plus I know I spent $4-6k less than I would have at a Toyota or Honda dealer (I know I lose some of that in resale but that is down the road, the savings were now).
MAXXimum Satisfaction
After test driving this car, I couldn't look at anything else. I had been looking for something that would get good MPG (26.5 in town), have the extras that my Jeep GCL had, but still look sporty. I looked at so many vehicles, my husband called it my new hobby. The MAXX has comfortable heated seats, adjustable pedals, tons of cargo room, a smooth ride, wireless headphones in the back and is FUN to drive. This car deserves a second look and a test drive. Lots of pick up, feel secure with a super safe drive. With a sunroof and the rear skylights, the interior feels even larger than it is. Looking forward to using the remote starter this winter
Great Baby Hauler
This car is great for those with babies, and don't want a minivan or SUV. Because the rear seats slide forward and backwards, you can place a rear facing baby seat without losing legroom for the front passengers. With the seats all the way back there is still room in the trunk for a baby stroller plus a trip to the grocery store.
Satisfied
We are very satisfied with the car. The only bad mark we have is the front seats. Handles great, yet has some features of an SUV. We did not like the handling of the SUVs we test drove, so this car was a nice in between. We would (and do) recommend this car to other people.
Former Ford owners fall for the Maxx!
Was dreading our transition from bigger vans to car, due to perceived lack of room. Was on a Ford lot looking at used cars and saw the Malibu Maxx and was drawn back to it over and over. Finally gave in and went for a test drive and was SOLD!! Couldn't believe how many luxury features and sportiness the maxx has.We have never driven a more fun vehicle. The back seat area is SO ROOMY and the back sunroofs are fun too. The many ways to arrange the back seats for extra cargo room are great. We are so happy with everything about this car.
Taking it to the MAXX
What a vehicle. V6, remote start, the most amazing backseat function (with more cargo room then some SUVs), DVD player on a car, great driving dynamics, and cheaper than the Camry, Accord, and Altima by thousands..
