Unreliable
I have owned this car for a little over 2 years and have less than 60,000 miles on it and the power steering has gone out on it. I called GM and their response was that it was no longer under warranty and they were not responsible for it. They offered a50% discount on the almost $900 repair it would take to fix it and only gave me 90 days to fix it. Do not buy this car it is a piece of junk. The Sun roof broke at 37,000 miles, the in dash console broke at around the same time. It cost a lot of money on maintenance and is not worth your money, even GM won't stand behind this piece of junk!
2006 HHR
I like it for the rear loading room; I never carry more than 1 other person so the limited back seat leg room is not a big deal. Bought it in 2008 with 34k miles ...... 12 yrs later I have 132k miles on it. Not counting the normal stuff like replacing tires, brakes, oil changes, battery, etc I've spent $4,478 on breakdown repairs (things like sensors, serpentine belt, blower motor, etc). Overall for defects other than normal service or maintenance thats about $375 p/yr .Not bad. My 2 big gripes are the limited shoulder / hip room in the front for normal size people AND the biggy is in snow, ice or much rain its like steering a roller skate board ......... Its all over the road = SCARY
Awesome HHR with Nitto Tires
This car was absolutely the best car I have ever owned. I could not believe the value packed into this car. There is no one out there that can go head to head with the HHR on price, performance, you name it. I sold it recently to buy a Chrysler Crossfire, to be honest I wish I had my HHR back. Don't get me wrong the Crossfire is awesome, but with the 18" rims and 40 series Nittos that HHR handled as well as any car I have ever driven. I honestly can't say much of anything negative except they need more cup holders for the driver. I had the 175hp version of the 4cyl. engine. I think back, my 1984 Mustang GT had 175hp. I have to laugh now looking back. I want the SS!
Fun
The appearance caught my attention first. The test drive really sold me. I had driven several small cars in the shopping process, (all I have ever owned were larger cars). The HHR is fun to drive and a fairly comfortable and quiet ride. I would have liked to have a center console with storage. But other than that I really like the car.
