Not a fan
Used as a daily commuter, 40 miles each way. While it did well with mpg, constant problems with the engine. Loss of power, oil usage, random problems with the computer.

cruze keeps you cruising
I'm a chevy girl, it started with my dad's 72 Nova & Impala. I've had a Sonic Hatchback, a Malibu sedan, but I absolutely live my Cruze. MPG is unbeatable and she's a smooth drive! So happy with my purchase!

Red Hot Cruzer!
Bought my Cruze LT used at a Honda dealer with 11,800 miles on it. The price is what drew me in as it was under $13000 before the dreaded haggle process. I love the car, it's whisper quiet, has good pick up for a small 4 cylinder engine and I average 38 miles a gallon driving highway and city. The car came with heated seats, and the upgraded auto start keyless features. I am very impressed with the 7" information center as it links my phone apps to the screen. Maps, music, phone contacts and text are all hands free and work like a champ. The cars new sharper lines mimic the new civic and it really makes the car stand out. Many Cruze owners with older models stop and ask me about my experience in the new style. I formerly had a Kia Soul, loved it and it was very reliable, but the Cruze is my new favorite. Trunk space and passenger room is exceptional as well. Highly recommend checking it out.

Test drive in a 2017 Cruze named Damocles
I've had my 2017 Cruze for just a little over 18 months and now have 27800 miles. Took it on a 25 state road trip after driving it for the first 10 months. I love the agility but I'm disappointed with the auto stop feature, it's a little dangerous if you forget it's there when in a right on red situation. That two second delay catches you off guard and could get you in trouble when timing the approach of other traffic. This feature can lead to a semi-T-Boned accident if you are not careful (so far so good). I think it needs to be removed. It's not saving enough gasoline to risk having an accident and losing your life I always think in terms of harm virus benefit, and if you can't afford to waste two teaspoons of gasoline while waiting at a light or stop sign, you probably can't afford a car in the first place. Anyway, although it's not a rocket out of the gate, I love the mixture of spunk and agility once you're underway. It handled very in the Rocky's , made the twisty turny's fun to play in. Averaged 33 MPG at greater than speed (XXX MPH) and even on terrain. During my road trip I hit all four seasons, from snow in the Rocky's, to heavy rain and cross winds as I navigated the Great Plains. Road Trips allow you to really test drive the car, and it met all of my expectations. BTW, it handled very well at maximum speed 121 MPH ( on flat land and of course you have to be out there by yourself to travel at that speed). If you travel at that speed, look out for those sneaky dips in the road, they come up much faster then you realize or expect. Bottom line, aside from the auto stop feature, I love this car, it really rocks in looks, utility and function, the old fashion wipers are cool too. The way I grade a car is to ask myself, would I buy another one like this. The answer is hell yes.

Buyer beware
I purchased a 2017 gen 2 Cruze with 13,000 miles on it. I commute to work and put on 100 miles a day. With 66,000 miles on the car, the engine light came on and there was a loss of power. The dealer says cylinder 4 had a misfire. Upon further testing, the piston was cracked. If you buy a Cruze, get an extended warranty!!!

This car makes me cry!!!
So I thought to myself upon buying this car why would it only have 20,000 mi on it but be a 2017? (and I bought it in the year 2021) well because this car probably has barely even been driven because of all the problems that it creates on its own even if you baby it. It will still break down on you and have fuel injection problems for no apparent reason. As of right now my car has been to the shop 8 times and I just bought it 2 years ago. 4 times for the fuel injectors blowing out 1 by 1 and the warranty would only cover it when it failed so I had to take it back for every single injector that blew on me, 1 time for the block heater that randomly quit working after putting off mega ohms So the dealership replaced it completely. Still not even sure to this day if that block heater actually works correctly or not, and 1 time for the knock sensor throwing on the check engine light saying that the combustion is off in the engine, and 2 times for the same fog light that keeps burning out (forgot to add that also as of right now the other side that hasn't been replaced twice has NOW ALSO burnt out on me and I just don't have the money to get it fixed as it's $100 every single time.) So that's just the reasons that I have ran into in the last 2 years, so definitely not keeping this car as the future of this car seems to be complete engine failure/replacement. Clearly this car has electrical issues and probably has parts that have been recalled on it but the dealership failed to tell me any of that. I should have looked up all the reviews on my own but I did not until I started having problems as I was under the impression that I bought a reliable car. This car has been the exact opposite of reliable. It's been a complete headache. I have to take it back to the shop every 3 months. And right now what I'm doing is saving up enough money for a down payment so I can get rid of it. Chevys are good cars for mechanics as they have to be worked on every single weekend in order for you to drive them.. but the problem is.....i'm not a mechanic. I'm a 28-year-old woman who knows nothing about cars. So to me this is really upsetting that I don't have a reliable vehicle and the fact that I WAS in love with this car just based off of the looks of it (because it does look very sharp inside and out.) BUYER BEWARE (or better yet) DO NOT BUY THIS CAR AT ALL, and if you read this review before you bought the car, then save yourself from a world of instability, stress, anger, and constant paranoia that your car is going to break down again and Do yourself a favor and go ahead and look into something else. Matter of fact, look into anything else besides this car . Because I'm not sure if there is one that's worse. Honestly, I really hope that GM reads this because they are the ones who produce the parts for this hunk of stinky s***. Yeah, sure the car looks cool but if it doesn't drive right, what's the point of owning it?... Anyways, that's a no-go for me. Definitely getting rid of this car as soon as possible. Too bad I've put so much money into it or I would already have a down payment for a different one.

Poor Warranty Suppourt
I bought a 2017 Cruze in December of 2017. I noticed the coloring on the driver’s door jam was blotched but was not concerned as it was a hidden area. The paint seemed to scratch very easily and began to chip the summer of 2018. I brought the concerns to a local dealer, Davidson Chevy thinking maybe the door was rubbing. They blamed me saying there was no misalignment. As the paint flaking and rust got worse February of 2019, I brought the car back to the dealer and opened a case with GM customer service. Again, the dealer blamed me saying that it was dog scratches. A dog never entered the car except a kennel in the hatch and I did not have a dog until the problem was already there. The Warranty covers corrosion protection for the first three years, 36,000 miles which the vehicle is well under both. The car has more rust after one year than the 16 year old Buick Lesabre that it replaced.

19k Miles, 16 Months Owned Review
I’ve read all the other reviews, and the most common complaint is the engine stop feature it uses to conserve fuel. The most accurate comment was that it turns back on BEFORE your foot moves from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal... so unless you're purposely jack-rabbitting (wasteful!), you won’t be bothered by it. No “shuddering” or jerking with mine. I do agree with other review suggesting a 3 second delay after full stop, but Chevy no longer manufactures the Cruze so that is moot. Also, READ THE MANUAL... the system will NOT engage if the A/C is on in the non-economy mode- problem solved if you hate it so much. I’m a “techie” type person, so I love all the features and instrumentation... although some of the knobs seem cheaply made, and I so wish the climate control system was zoned driver/passenger and could be set to a given temperature. I drive in the mountains, and this car is powered just fine. Also lots of highway/local mix and consistently >42mpg. The only thing that is “wrong” thus far is that (clean/clear) rainwater accumulates in the spare tire well when the car sits unused... probably a gasket seal issue with rear windshield or trunk compartment. Will get this fixed under warranty when I can leave with dealer for a few days, then update here. 2 yrs, 10mos and 34k miles. No problems, runs great.

NEEDS NEW PISTONS
Leased a brand new 2017 Cruze to be used as a second car. We have had it now for 2 and 1/2 years and have less than 8000 miles on it. Suddenly the check engine light came on and it started to idle roughly. I took it to the Chevy dealer and was told that the motor needed new pistons. Thankfully it is still under warranty so we can drive it for the 6 months remaining on the lease and then give them back their piece of junk.

2017 Cruze, great vehicle!
The only complaint I have is that the paint on the vehicle seems to be paper thin. I have a new chip or ding every day. I bought a paint repair pen and it has been difficult keeping up.

Not very impressed. Preferred the VW Jetta
Avis at OC John Wayne airport stuck me with a Chevy Cruze on my last trip to SoCalif in May 2017. Bummer. I had fun to drive VW Jetta the last time. The accelerator pedal on the Cruze felt like I was modulating a bungee cord with virtually no acceleration unless I floored it. The brakes were a little grabby but OK. There's nothing special about this car, not especially fun to drive, not very nimble but acceptable. The auto Stop/Start was a royal pain. The only way I could disable it (sometimes) was if I left the air conditioner ON. Apparently the engine needs to be running in order to power the air conditioner - but that only worked sometimes. I thought I would get better throttle response by shifting the transmission out of Drive and into the next lower setting. If I did that while stopped the engine would just rev up to redline and wouldn't shift as I sped up. If I was already in motion then manually down shifted, it would sometimes stay in the lower setting with better throttle response and not rev up so high. It would 'shift'. Weird. I say 'shift' because I'm not sure if this is a real transmission or a CVT. In any case, it was annoying! The VW Jetta is also an inexpensive sedan and I found it be a far better car all around, much more spirited, and no silly quirks like the Chevy Cruze. I ask Avis if I can get the Jetta again on my next trip. I'll try to avoid the Cruze.

Auto start/stop and no auto climate control
The car has the auto start/stop when you stop the car its annoying turns the a/c or heat off at lights and theres no way to turn the system off. To get auto climate control in the car you need the top trim level which comes with leather and sunroof and larger wheels all which are unneeded things. Cars that cost half as much brand new come with auto climate control.

Still a Ways To Go to Catch the Asians!
There are several reasons I chose the Cruze to replace my 2014 Hyundai Elantra Limited. The first is price, I couldn't get a better price for a Honda or another Hyundai. I couldn't even come close. The second it the engine, the turbocharged 4 in the Cruze was better than all of the other cars I test drove except the Honda Accord 4 cylinder. The Cruze was also the lowest priced car I could find with Apple's Car Play. If Chevrolet really wants to compete with the Asian imports it had better upgrade its interior finish choices. As it sits right now the chosen pieces look and feel cheap. Update 4/10/18 - My original review of the car still stands. Good car for the lease price I got, but not worth a penny more.

Hot ,stylish car
The car looks in my opinion great. It's sporty and classy looking. It has great pickup if I hit the gas it flies. It has the goodies inside and for me it's very comfortable. The ride is smooth and I get a lot of compliments on the looks. I've had several people stop me and ask if I like it. So far ,so good.

Fell short of the hype!
The car sits very low to he ground and is very light weighted so I had to add sandbags to the trunk for weight. You can’t wash the interior to keep it clean without it falling apart. Great in gas. Comfortable interior.

Traded in after 2 and a half years..
I bought a 2017 Chevy Cruze LS brand new in February 2017. It has plenty of leg room and comfortable seating for children in the back. Yes, children, not so much for adults. Great trunk space. The LS models do not come with Cruise control, kind of a bummer but we dealt with it. I absolutely HATED the auto stop. Every so often when you are stopped, the car stalls out and you have to shift it up to park and cold start it again. There are a ton of complaints about this happening, but yet GM has done nothing. Gas mileage was fantastic. The entertainment system is basic, as our LS model did not come with XMSirius but did have a lot of connectivity with blue tooth and USB. The automatic transmission is not smooth shifting and takes longer than usual to shift up and even longer to downshift. Sometimes I wondered if it was even going to shift at all. There was nothing mechanically wrong with the Cruze when I took it into the dealer for the stalling out and slow shifting transmission. It's just the way it's built. I do not reccomend this vehicle for mainly in town driving with a lot of stop and go. It is a better vehicle on the highway due to the auto stop feature. After 2 and half years and only putting 22,600 miles on it, I traded my 2017 Cruze LS in for a 2019 Chevy Trax LT FWD.. I love love love the Trax. No Auto stop, smooth shifting transmission without the lag and hesitation, I have Cruise control once again, bigger touch screen, XM radio, all kinds of plugs and outlets, and it holds on to the road so much better than the Cruze. It also has the same MSRP as the Cruze did. Before you buy a 2017 Cruze used, look at a Trax. Your cargo/trunk space is bigger in the Cruze, but the drive is so much better in a Trax.

Great MPG! Adequate power. Fun to drive.
Can feel air turbulance from 18-wheelers at high speed. Stop-start may freak you out the first time, but one ignores it by the second day. Headlights don't shine to the side enough, would recommend fog light option.

Drove across the country 3 times
I traded in my 2010 Chevy cobalt for this 2017 Cruze to make a long move across the country. I drove this car from Pennsylvania to Arizona and it was very comfortable and got great gas mileage. Also the car has some power and the many tech features helped make a 3 day drive feel easier. Update: in the past 3 months, I have drove from Phoenix to Pittsburgh and back and still love this car. Great power for a small engine. This car is very comfortable and the android auto/apple CarPlay is great. The style of the car is another reason to love the car as well.

Great vehicle
I purchased the Premier model as it had that Kalahari interior and had every option known to GM at the time. Everyone who gets into it comments on the interior. Amazing leg room in the front seat. The front seats are about average for comfort. I use it to drive from MI to FL twice a year, and do not feel uncomfortable after the drive. City pep is good, but two lane passing can be a heart in the mouth adventure. Anything over 60mph it is quite slow to increase speed. However, it does keep up to any legal speed anywhere in the USA. No problem getting the digital speedo to show triple digits! Mine was built in Mexico. I find the fit and finish to be excellent. The doors shut with a very satisfying clunk. The Bose radio system is very good. I am very happy with the vehicle. I have nothing negative to say about it at all. Three years of totally trouble free driving. I maintain the vehicle well, but the Chevy dealer I bought it from was terrible. Nothing to do with the car. I would buy another one tomorrow if mine was severely damaged. My passengers love the heated rear seats!

My new chevy Cruze
When purchasing or leasing a Cruze. Do all your research first , make sure that you can do all your negotiating over the phone and talk to family or friends that own one. First so you can get the feel of the vehicle. I had just leased my new Cruze and i love it very much it is a great car if you are in collage or just want something that will get you to a to b. Other than that Chevy did a great job on the design and it is a great first car.

what a nightmare!
don't do it! everything goes wrong on this car but let's focus on the daily struggle you're about to endure. The car doesn't accelerate properly and they say 1 or 2 things A. the car has a gas saving blah blah that's just the way it is but go down the street and they say you need a new transmission. Look all over the internet this is a common issue. The car is so uncomfortable to drive because of the seats and you have to manually do it it's not electronic and in 2018 it really sucks. Not to mention there's recalls on it but dealerships won't fix them at no cost unless you got it from a specific dealership and do all this paperwork. Spare yourself the trouble I still owe on it or it would be gone. At this point i'd rather trade it in and get a 500$ piece of crap that would drive better.

Big Guy in a small car.
It takes a while to get satisfied with the start stop technology. I don't even notice it now. My last 2 cars were loaded Chrysler 300 AWD. I like this car for its crisp handling, easy parking, and good gas mileage. I am 6 ft 285 pounds. I am 70 and no longer take road trips. It is hard for me to get good gas mileage because the places I go are usually 3 miles or less. As an old fogey I am not much into technology, but the bluetooth and smart phone work great together. I have a 29 year old friend who likes the built in technology features i do not use. I lease the car for 101 a month for 24 months including taxes ,fees ,etc. with $ 2000 up front so I really don'r know a $ amount paid for the car.

Awesome little Car
After searching countless dealerships and driving countless cars I was so relieved when I found my little Cruze. Not only is it affordable it is a slick ride. It's extremely comfortable and oh so quite, sometimes I have check to see if it's even running. It has plenty of get up and go, and the ride is surprisingly smooth for a compact sedan. I have a 16 Elantra as well and the Cruze is far superior to it technology, interior appearance, and rude quality wise. If you're looking for a nice small car, the Cruze is the one.

Fun, sporty, and dependable
I bought my 2017 Cruze LS new. My prior 1987 Porsche 924S was totaled in a truck accident, so I replaced it with a similar themed red manual transmission Cruze. Now at 72K miles in just under four years. Overall, it's been fun to drive (manual), looks great with red color and black accents, and has been very dependable. I've completed all maintenance items according to schedule, including periodic coolant and brake flushes, and manual trans fluid at 45K. Replaced front brake pads at 68K miles (still at 25% pad left). Tires at 46K miles. Only problem was a faulty clutch assembly replaced just before the warranty expired at 35.8K miles. Good thing, as it would have been a very expensive repair but Chevy covered it. Just put new spark plugs in at 72K miles and noticed an improvement in acceleration and the feel of the engine. I have the LS model with steel wheels, so my only regret is not having alloy wheels, cruise control, and a sunroof. I can link my phone either by USB or Bluetooth, and playing music from my phone gives a significant improvement in sound quality over using the standard radio. Although its OK sound overall, nothing superior. Cloth seats are comfortable, but do not have the class of leather (another regret). Lots of plastic in the interior but that's to be expected at this price point. One complaint is lack of acceleration in 1st/2nd gears...it's poor and I'm routinely dusted off at traffic stops by other compact cars. Turbo kicks in during 3rd gear and then the car takes off. Probably my biggest complaint was at the dealership where I bought it. Purchased from Princeton Chevy but then the dealership was sold very soon after to Ciocca Chevy. Nothing but poor customer service from Ciocca, also incorrect billing, extra charges, and incorrect information on parts ordering. I don't trust them, and now I'm in a different area and with a different Chevy dealer for maintenance and I still don't trust them. Every encounter seems to be about them extracting as much money from me as possible. Overall, I like the car, it's been inexpensive and dependable, and fun to drive. Not happy about the lack of acceleration and the plastic/cloth interior. Outside look is like most similar compact cars, but it does have a sportier edge with the front/rear styling and hot red color. I'm happy with the purchase and I think it is the best choice in it's class. But I still look forward to the future and moving back into a higher price point for some of the finer appointments and especially better acceleration.

Best car
I absolutely love my 2017 Chevy Cruze premier. Before buying it I didn’t realize all the features it has. I love my heated seats and heated steering wheel. I love the power it has when I’m on the interstate. It gets excellent gas mileage. I was going to get a Malibu before I test drove this and they are very similar and I was getting a better deal on this car so I chose this and it is the best choice I made. Very safe for my two children too!
Sold it as soon as I was able to.
Prior to this car, my mom was letting me drive her ‘14 Cruze (avoid the first gen at all costs. I learned that recently, dealing with the car as it is my sisters now). I purchased the car as a certified used car in early 2018 with a little over 5k miles. I sold the car in the middle of 2021 with about 41k miles on it. While I had the car, the radio had to be replaced due to defects and one of my cylinders had to be replaced. Acceleration was below par and the transmission gave noticeable and disappointing shifts. The seats were uncomfortable and I feel in hindsight I could have gotten different car for a similar price with more options. The paint chipped and scratched easily and the engine had an annoying hissing sound. All in all, it got me where I needed to go even when I drove it like a race car. Apple CarPlay was a nice addition on the car since it had just been released the year prior.

Great little car BUT
We loved our Cruze hatchback until it started smelling like a pig farm. Have talked to others that had the same problem. And later we had mice living in the spare tire area. That added a different smell to the mix. Why does Chevy leave body openings where mice and even rats can enter the cabin and air intake areas.

A pleasant surprise!
Long story short- this car was bought out of necessity and lasted me 210,000 miles with absolutely no issues. City miles, highway miles, daily driving, this car handled it all. I had a Jeep Liberty before this that I had bought off of my grandma with almost no miles on it and I adored that car. I drove that thing all over the country and had no issues until I took it into a small repair shop for what should have been a routine repair and then after that I had issue after issue. It finally got to the point that I was visiting my dad and knew that if I didn’t get a new car that day, I wouldn’t be making it back to Kansas City in the jeep without major issues. He had a friend who ran a dealership who gave me more value for the trade in than he should have so we went there. I just needed any sedan that was reliable, and had good enough mileage as I was driving a lot at the time. I didn’t have time to do research. Basically ended up thrust into this 2017 Chevy Cruze basic package. It had what I needed and the price was friendly so I took it. I’m happy I did. For 8 years I have driven this thing all over with absolutely no issues. It has had no major engine issues. I have only had to do regular oil changes and transmission flushes at any local Valvoline and it’s been absolutely fine. It’s up over 200,000 miles on it and those are hard fought miles. It’s been in the city, up and down highways, in towns. This car has been driven daily for years. It is just now finally showing signs of its age. I really didn’t know what to expect with it. But I’m pleasantly surprised with how well it worked out for me.

Ruined engine at 94K miles!!
I owned this vehicle for a year before the engine failed on me. It was a great vehicle while it lasted. Around 92K miles, i noticed my car began to drive poor. It began to shake a bit and my stabilitrak came on every once in a while. I was informed I needed a new fuel injector. I purchased a new one and had cylinder 1 fuel injector replaced. It ran well for about two weeks after that and then the same codes reappeared. Cylinder 1 misfire and stabilitrak. I had this evaluated and come to find out, Chevy has intentionally overinflated the PSI in the cylinders to accommodate the turbocharged engine. At 94K miles, the final diagnosis was a cracked cylinder in cylinder one leaking PSI causing cylinder misfire and violently shaking engine from a direct result of chevy over inflation of the engine. No wonder they cut their power terrain warranty at 60K miles. I tried that too. I am now stuck with a 2017 Chevy Cruze of which I owe 15K dollars on and can no longer operate it. When I contacted Chevy or GM, I was told there was nothing to be done and I was basically SOL. They offered a 10% relief on the repair at about 5K repair. However, they want their own diagnosis and proceed to also inform me that they will charge me $500 for the diagnosis. It is a great car and I miss being able to drive that vehicle however, the reliability of the vehicle is terrible and GM was no help. Would not recommend this vehicle to anyone.

Catchy Title
Overall the car is satisfactory, but it's had some problems. If I had it to do over I would stick with Honda or Toyota.

Ex car salesman, I know vehicles! Checked with consumer reports before leasing my 2017 Cruise Of and they gave the 17 great reviews. Had it for 7.5yrs and never had 1 issue. Best car I ever had!
