2000 Chevy 3500 Crew

Bought this truck from an auction - former Forestry Service Truck - in 2011 with only 55,000 miles. This is the last year for the best Chevy body style. Overall the truck is a work horse. It runs and drives great. Some parking lots aren't designed well to accommodate a crew cab long bed. I've had some minor issues with electrical items (fuel, tach, RPM gauges) working intermittently. Folks that complain about fuel mileage..... it's a one ton crew cab long bed with a vorteq 350. Were you expecting anything over 12???

This truck is a great vehicle. I have made a few mods to the suspension and motor(7.4L) and it has responded well. I pull a 6000lb boat and carry a 3500lb slide-in camper. We also haul a gooseneck with 8 Black Angus cows. The truck handles the load quite well and it is a very comfortable vehicle to drive on long trips. I get 10/12+mpg empty and a solid 10 loaded, which is much better than the 6/8 I got with my previous truck. I think the brakes feel weak too, but they have never failed to stop me. Overall I think this truck is a great value. I love driving around town and to work as much as I've enjoyed driving it all over the country.

I have the 6.5 Turbo Diesel motor which I absolutely love...when it runs! I can't stand it when it doesn't run or is having mechanical problems, which seems to be most of the time anymore. I've had overheating problems when I'm towing in the summer, fuel injection pump has been replaced ($1500), also had to replace lift pump, oil pressure switch 3 times, and pmd module twice. But, once you get her running right it's hard to beat it's performance and mpg!

I bought my used with 98K miles. After getting new motor, radiator, fuel pump, starter, brakes, heater coil and motor, brake line, rebuilt front end, before it turned 123K over 10k dollars in work and parts. To top that off I was getting 8 to 10 mpg with the 454. I finally couldn't take it anymore and traded for a Dodge diesel. It broke my heart cause I'm a Chevy man at heart. I love my Dodge, but I still may get another Chevy some day. I just think I really got a lemon with this truck and my other Chevy 1999 wasn't this back. Also Chevy really drop the ball when they stopped making the Camaro. That comblined with this truck turned me to Dodge.

I have been a GM owner for over twenty years and this truck will be my last GM vehicle. To be succinct, I have 58,000 miles and need a new bottem end on my engine, and my front end needs to be rebuilt - and this truck has been pampered! Call me crazy, but I think that a $40,000 truck should last more than 58,000 miles. To add insult to injury, GM will do nothing to help offset the cost of repairs. Ford, here I come.

I own a K3500 crew cab with a 454 big block. It has all the power I will ever need. It rides like a one ton, but if you want ride, buy a car. It will fit all your gear, and or family. It pulls like a mule. 4x4 is decent, but the auto hubs could have used a little better engineering. All in all, it is the best thing I have ever bought.

Bought this truck new, 7.4L 2WD limited slip. Used for towing 4 horse 5th wheel. I really have no major complaints. The truck has done OK for me. I baby it, and have kept up the maintainence. It mostly has highway miles, going to and from horse shows. 7.4 performed OK on the towing, not a whole lot of power, but got me up the hill.

I really never needed a truck this heavy duty, but it was a windfall. I was very surprised with how comfortable and roomy the interior was. It was our favorite vehicle to take on long trips, or at least it would have been, if it wasn't for the miserable 12mpg the 454 gets. The ride was stiff, but I expected that. I never really put the truck to the test, but I never had to worry about anything with it. It never left us stranded and we walked away from a highway collision at 65mph with only seatbelt bruises, so it is very safe as well.

For a heavy duty truck they did not put much thought into the brakes. We have had to change the brake pads 3 times as much as should have!! Have had the transmission act up twice in the 2 yrs we have owned. WAY TOO MUCH $ and not enough HEAVY DUTY!!!

We have the one tonner. Hauled 4 horses cross country before we bought it used. We haul a 32 ft 5th wheel and snowmobiles. It's a true "workhorse" Window motor to passenger side don't work from driver's side, but works from passenger side. Other problem...fuel hog! Better pay attention to the fuel gauge, blink and it's gone.

I purchased this truck back in 2002. It is a 454/5 Spd regular cab 2WD which are extremely difficult to find. I have more fun hauling my cars around due to the fact that I get just as many compliments about the truck as well as the cars. Very durable and very fortunate to have one. Not the best for long travel with the family. No room to stretch. I enjoy it mainly for me and one other rider. Gas mileage proportional to load it handles.

I purchased this truck new and "out of the box" so to speak. It has been nothing less than excellent to me. I do a lot of towing with it- and sometimes the loads are quite heavy. The only fault with this truck is the brakes. They could hold a little better. The power is good for the 5.7 (350) and considering this is also myt daily driver- fuel economy is very respectful (17 on the highway)- something Ford and Dodge could only dream of having. The interior is quiet- and there's no rattles either. I would definitely recommend this vehicle to anyone interested in purchasing one.

Cheverolet Builds trucks that are extremely tough and ready to work. The ride in this and all Chevy's is at the top of the class. This truck is built for comfort whether you are driving it in town or on the highway. There is plenty of room in the front or back seats for kids or tall adults to sit comfortably. .

This has been the best purchase of my life.. I used to have a ford, and those would not hold up to save my life. We own a stable, and we have to ship livestock, and get every job completed, that I would not rely on any other but my 3500. It has given me smooth running, no problems, and very fun to drive, though the others have said differently. If your thinking about another, dont. Plainly. Dont wait like I did and get something you really do not want. Get THIS truck, great for business, hauling, and has the power of a tractor.

If you are looking for fuel economy, this may not be your vehicle. Most of my trips are less that 5 miles and MPG range from 9-11 MPG. We have pulled a fifth-wheel trailer with 10,000# of dryywall on it. No problem! I have replaced and battery and alternator. Hood release also broke on inside (the plastic pull). I as very glad that the truck has been as dependable as it has been as the dealership service sucked! I think that they did manage to get the power door locks and security alarm installed by a vender but they never fixed the windshield leak or finished preping the vehicle for delivery!

Bought this truck used with 97,000 miles. Initially bougt a single rear wheel 3500 with 350/auto. Truck was OK, but I really wanted a dually. Went back to same dealership looking to trade and found this crew cab dually with 454/5 spd. What an awesome truck! It has the Western Hauler package which for this truck is basically badging, nice wood console and a 90gal bed mounted gas tank. We use it to pull a 5th wheel camper and it doesn't even know it's there. Maybe not the towing torque of a diesel but for my needs its great and you can't beat the sound of a big block through Flowmasters. My son thinks it's cool to leave four black marks! Do that with a diesel!

I have never owned a truck and needed one for work. I picked this one up at an auction and really had no idea what it had been through. It has some body damage and has been a fleet vehicle so I knew it has seen some rough days but the price was righ so I bought it. I've had it for about 6 months and haven't had to do anything to it even though I've put on over 15000 miles. It is a monster but is still easy to drive. The back seat is the biggest most comfortable I've ever seen. I've loaded it with over 2500 pounds of hardwood and honestly, I hardly noticed. The 4wd is rad. It's just a solid, reliable workmonster.

Used primarily for towing my KZ-RV Frontier 2505, purchased at a reduced price due to rear dually locking up on turns. First owner advised me to change fluids which did not help. GMPP warranty found the problem in the PIG Head and replaced no problems in the past 50 thousand miles. Excellent tow vehicle and will replace with another Silverado in the future.

No truck compares to this thing! 123K miles on a 6.5L turbodiesel. New trans and clutch at 114K miles and a new waste gate on the turbo. Most reliable/comfortable thing ever. Yes it rides like a truck but if you want a car ride, then buy a car. Massive room in the back seat. Block heater a necessity in the winter, but as long as its warm it starts right up. Still have the original exhaust with no leaks. Open highway gets 24MPG, around town 18MPG. Had it for 23 years, probably have it for another 23.

The 2000 C/K 3500 is a legend. Currently driving a 2WD 5.7 with 310k in 2023. So easy to work on. So much space for DIY jobs. Extra leaf springs= get under truck, do what you need to. Grease everything routinely, service it, and these trucks can last a lifetime.

This was my work truck. Traded it in last year. It had 86,000 miles on trade-in. If it wasnt for 4 fuel pumps going out during the span I owned the vehicle I would have liked this vehicle better. The fuel pump w labor cost $650. Ouch! I was told by the dealer that the reason was I needed to change my gas filter every 12K. I was changing fuel pumps every 12K! Power came from a 454 cu v8. Was underpowered for pulling trailers which I do alot of. Mileage was about 12 mpg highway.
