top pick
The a4 and the 3 series seem to be in somewhat of a battle to be THE german car in the size. Having done a lot of reading on both cars before making any desision, i noticed that all the magazines comparing the two seemed to favor the audi but yet still chose the bimmer? accepting this at face value and driving both cars, you notice both have a lot to offer. 2 advantages to the audi, are, 1)its not the cookie cutter norm. and 2)the car has a personality about it that you instantly connect with. if given a fair chance i feel that audi should rank higher buck for buck, if it would only get the media recognition it deserved....
One of the worst cars I have ever owned
Loads of electrical gremlins. Spontaneously the alarm used to go off when I first got it. Radio problems, speakers cutting in and out, tweeter still busted. Dealers want $300 to replace a battery, recently paid $475 to diagnose and replace 3 feet of vacuum hose for a check engine light. Brakes were shot in 36,000 miles (my other car was good for 50,000 so it is not my driving) and tires the same. It was fun to drive when I bought it. Should have bought reliability. Maybe mine was just a lemon but I would not shop Audi/VW again.

So Long, Audi
Bought this car almost two years ago from an Audi dealership. Sadly, the engine has failed due to the infamous oil sludge build-up issue in the 1.8T engine. Car was always maintained at Audi dealer. The car is beautiful...but it will be moving on to greener pastures with someone who would like to put a new engine in it. Timing belt also had to be replaced, ignition coils, etc. Too many recalls for "Truth in Engineering", Audi.
A4
Before I made my purchase, I was deciding between the A4-3.0, BMW-330i, Acura TL-S, Mercedes Benz C320, and the Infiniti-G35. I must admit, for the price range, I could get the G35 and spank every other car on this comparison list. BUT, I went with the A4 because it was well rounded. Acceleration was under 7 seconds, has AWD Quattro, I love the interior, Dolphin Gray is a great color, double exhaust, and class. Something about spending 38k on an Infiniti just doesn't feel right.
New A4
This car is better than the predecessor. My friend had the old A4, it was an awesome car to begin with. But now its his turn to be jealous of mine. More power, classier and sportier interior, understated elegance all-around. Although a little bit more zip would be nice like the all-famous inline-6. But otherwise, this is really a perfect car for a perfect customer who doesn't want to splurge 50k on a C320 and still get build quality that is on par if not better.
