2024 Alfa Romeo Giulia Consumer Reviews

Stand Out from the Masses :)
TL;DR version: Go test drive one and see for yourself. Full version: So I have always played it "safe" with cars, using magazines like CR faithfully and buying either a Toyota or Honda/Acura product. I really liked the Giulia's looks, the history behind Alfa Romeo, and having a car you don't see everywhere. But, the reliability question was concerning--until I dug deeper. CR doesn't even really have data on Alfa Romeo yet still gives them a rating (e.g. how on earth did they give the Tonale a rating in April issue when it doesn't even go on sale in USA until May '23). I went to forums where actual owners exist and actual owners have mainly had trouble-free experiences. I quickly discovered that many of the people busting on Alfa reliability don't even own one. So with life short if Covid taught us anything, I took the plunge and bought a Giulia. And, I am 100% glad I did. The car handles like no other sedan on the road. If you are a lean person, definitely opt for the sport seats too. You will seat "in" the seat rather than "on" the seat like the Sprint and Ti versions. If you are larger in size though, the sport seats could be too snug (I'm 6ft, 165) due to the side bolsters. I also love that the car has its infotainment system built into the dash and avoids the common trend of slapped tablet onto the dash--and it has plenty of physical buttons to complement the touchscreens. And, the car is f-a-s-t. I keep it in "d" mode for the dna and you can feel the car excited to drive. Which gets to the biggest dislike--other drivers in my way on a curvy road when my Alfa wants to run free! ;)

Superb Drivers Car
Drive it. There is nothing in this class that drives like the Giulia. World class dynamics in terms of handling and ride. The car was updated in 2020 and the interior and finish is first class. I’ve owned all the German competitors. Nothing comes close as an overall package.

wonderful machine the Giulia Veloce
It looks stunning, no doubt. Like the driving too. smooth power delivery. Suspension a poise in compared to my Golf R VII. Love it. Classy. Interior is also nicely done. I don't see the so-often-yelled lack of German quality. It is finished well too. I thought I would miss my Golf R when I replaced it with Giulia. But in the end I find this car more lovely. Good value for money too when in compared with similar German ones.

Great value on an Italian car!
I had planned to buy a Giulia a year ago, but I let Consumer Reports somewhat negative review stop me. I bought something else instead. Well, I needed another car, so I recently decided to buy a Giulia anyway. Don't believe the negative parts of that review! Mine is a 2022 Giulia Veloce in Rossa Etna and I absolutely love this car! I'm 6'3" and I have plenty of room. The controls are simple to use. I'm difficult to please and I can't find any negatives to this car! It's simply the best driving car that I have ever driven! It puts a smile on my face every time that I drive it! Give it a chance. You won't regret it!

Quad Version
If performance is first on your list then this is the car for you. Coming from a V-8 Audi S6 the interior and refinement of the Alpha fall short. However, that’s not why I bought it. If you crave jaw-dropping acceleration, telepathic steering and a beautiful raspy engine sound that will awe your passengers and draw curses from your neighbors…look no further.
If you don’t enjoy driving this stick with the bus
Bought a 2022 TI leftover in 2023. For a 4 seater car with modern electronics and safety features, this really drives as good as you’re going to get. Really quick and responsive steering that doesn’t feel like I’m playing a video game. Firm but not harsh suspension. Very good real world acceleration with lot’s of punch down low where you can use it on public roads. Nice comfortable seats and good finishes on the things you’ll regularly handle. Good visibility - so much better than every SUV. All wheel drive. Oh, don’t forget it’s actually nice to look at - doesn’t have an absurd 5’ wide grill like new BMW’s and Audis.

Italian Elegance
My 2022 Guilia Veloce AWD drives like it's on rails. Quick, quiet, comfortable, driver centric. No maintenance issues in almost 1 year of ownership. The Guilia is a blast to drive whether running errands or on the highway. Before buying a BMW or Audi drive a Guilia. There's a reason the Guilia keeps winning awards for "Best Car"in its class in Europe. Plus, there is the added benefit that if you get one, you will stand out from the crowd because there aren't many on the road. If it was more of a "mass market" brand, (more units sold, more advertising dollars spent) it might get more love from the car critics in the USA (IMO).

Alfaholic
This is my 4th Alfa since 2019. I've had (2) 2019 TI Sports, (1). 2020 Stelvio TI Sport and a 2022 Giulia Sprint. I have had minor issues with all of them mostly service throttle body alarms that go away after a restart. It still doesn't give you a warm fussy feeling about taking one of them on a long trip taking a chance of going into limp mode. I would rather rent a car then risk traveling with the limited amount of dealer support and part availability. On the positive side there's nothing like an Alfa when it comes to the driving experience and the smile the car puts on your face every time you drive it. I have owned about every brand of vehicle, and I can say the Alfa is by far my favorite.

A joy to drive
We bought this car after test driving it as it is a complete joy to drive. Beautiful and unique styling, great handling, above average power for cars in it's segment. I highly recommend taking a test drive in the Giulia before buying a BMW 3 series or Audi A4 as you won't be disappointed.

Fantastic Driver's Car
When this model came out I was very attracted to the lines and the styling, but like so many other others out there, the reviews made me hold off on a purchase. I test drove the Audis and the BMWs and the Jaguars of the world. And finally, the Alfa Romeo and I was in love. I then dug into the reviews by owners and read through their feedback and decided to go for it. For what it's worth, I have not owned the car long enough to make any comments on the reliability but I have not had any issues since purchasing the car earlier this year. This car is like no other. I have the Veloce version and I absolutely love the handling, the performance and how this car really does corner like it's on rails. It's a driver's car, pure and simple. I think the controls are some of the most logical out there for doing what you are supposed to be doing in the driver's seat; driving and enjoying the experience. This car puts a grin on your face and always draws a crowd. If you are looking for a car in this segment by all means drive the competition out there and they are all good at what they do, but then drive this car. This company knows how to build an experience and that's what sets it apart from the rest. I am really sorry I held off on this purchase for so long. I wished I had made the decision to buy this car much sooner. I look out at the car in the driveway and I have zero regrets about making the purchase. I know about the depreciation, the supposed quality issues and the fact that the electronics are not plastered all over the dash. I don't care. The car makes me smile when I drive it and makes me appreciate the curves and form while washing it down. I don't see ever getting rid of this car. It will have a home in the garage next to my Acura TSX wagon I bought in 2012. I like the cars no one else drives. Give it a try before they replace the powerplant and go the way of hybrids and EVs.

In Love.
I'm closing in on 60000 miles with my Giulia 2.0 Lusso. Replaced the battery. Sunroof part broke. Everything replaced under warranty. I have a warning light saying that audio not available, but it's working fine. Every...single...time I drive it I have a feeling of knowing that nothing else feels like this car. Not BMW,Audi, or my GTI. It is so glassy when carving the corners. The harder I push the better it gets. I can also cruise at 85 mph all day and it still manages 32 mpg. Ask someone that lives with the vehicle. I have yet to meet an owner that doesn't love it.

If you truly enjoy driving, get one.
I'd wanted a Giulia since they first brought Alfa Romeo back to the US in 2017, but I just couldn't justify it. Now, at a different spot in my life in many ways, I picked up my 2022 Giulia Q4 (AWD) with just over 26k miles 4 months ago and I enjoy it. Nothing drives like this car does. There is an energy, a passion if you will, to this car that doesn't exist in a regular 3 series, A4 or C Class Mercedes. It does lack in refinement compared to those cars, but it's a lot more fun even for mundane driving chores. I recall growing up reading the car mags talking about Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc. and even the older Alfas having immense charm and driving fun to make up for their quirks and shortcomings as cars. I like: -The driving feel: This car is intuitive to drive, like its already doing what you thought of doing before you do it. The turbo 4 is strong, especially down low, the automatic is fairly decisive and quick, especially in dynamic mode. The brakes are strong, but they can be a bit clunky because they are electronically controlled. -The interior: My car is a Ti with an upgraded interior package that adds leather to the top of the dash. It's mostly black, but with the tan seats and some other colors, it's attractive and comfortable while also being great to look at. A far cry from the usual black or grey that is predominate in my previous cars, mostly Japanese. -The Tech: Well, for me the level of technology is fine. It's a bit dated and not the quickest, but you're also not awash in screens and menus with this car like a 3 series ( I keep naming the 3 series because I would have got one of those if I didn't get the Alfa) I have the Harmon-Kardon stereo which is great to my ears. It had just enough tech to not feel dated as it is and not so much that it's confusing. But, the interface can be a bit clunky. The things I don't like: -It's a small car dimensionally inside and out which is fine but also can be a challenge. There is not a ton of room or storage space and the trunk is small. If you're over 6ft or have tall kids or adults, this car is tight on space. -The backup camera is terrible. Almost useless at night. Visibility in this car isn't bad, but it's still nice to have a good camera for complex parking jobs. -The seats are OK. They do not have a lot of thigh support or a great amount of adjustments. I've done 5 hours in the car comfortably, but the support in the legs and thighs could be better. -Refinement is lacking: There is more road and wind noise than a 3 series. Impact joints from the road thrum through the tight body and the ride is stiff. Not quite as much as a Mini if you have experience with those, but its just not as compliant as a BMW either. This is a drivers focused car and driving is largely about feedback. This car gives it to you all the time. -Dealer network is largely non-existent. The closest dealer to me is 45 minutes and I have it better than most people. Most Alfa sites agree that purchasing a Giulia after the 2021 model year eliminates some common issues with the 17-20 cars. After 4 months, I've had no issues on a used car. If you really like to drive and want a more driver focused sedan than a BMW, Mercedes or Audi in their regular form, this is your car. If you want something a bit unique that ISN'T a BMW, Audi or Mercedes but can still run with them and fit in at the posh places, this is your car. If you can put up with its quirks and tight interior, this is your car. So far, I have no regrets in buying my Giulia in any way.

Fast!
I really like this car. It goes very fast, handles flat on windy roads and is very quiet on the highway. Actually gets good gas mileage on the highway as well. The seats are hard to get in and out of due to the side bolsters but these do keep you in place.

The best and most fun car I have ever owned.
After two years, it has only gotten better. There is nothing out there that I would replace this with. The balance, quality, style, comfort, handling, and modern features make it a pleasure to own. And it has also made this a long term keeper.

The sprint replaced a CLA 250 AWD , the first year they came out with the car. My wife totaled the Mercedes and while looking at new cars and being retired we chose a 2023 Alpha Romeo Gulia Sprint . The car listed at over $52,000 and checked all the boxes we were looking for. After 6,000 miles my wife and I love the car. If you’re looking for real value and quality then look no further than Alpha Romeo Gulia. It’s the best !!!!!

What a blast ...
2.1.2025 - This car never gets old. I am glad I purchased it when I did because I do not like the newer model. The front lighting and interior digital display make the vehicle seem ordinary. Anyway, the most amazing thing is that, even after two years, it looks brand new (the paint job is just beautiful), and drives and corners like it's "on rails." I still get stares and thumbs-ups from people. I have not had a single mechanical problem and visited my dealership only for scheduled services and one recall. I have owned my brand new 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce for a year and a half now, and I must say driving it has been a blast. The exterior styling sets this sports sedan apart from other cars on road today. The color I picked (Ocra-GT) is a rare find and makes the vehicle even more beautiful. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard wows from strangers. The interior is impeccable, and I love the leather seat design. The bolsters hug the driver as the vehicle makes tight turns. The ride is surprisingly quiet, and the Giulia accelerates quickly. The fuel efficiency is also incredibly good for a sports car. I get about 24-25 miles per gallon in combined city and highway driving. The trim I bought (Veloce) has level 2 autonomous features that work as advertised even though the vehicle has a low center of gravity. I have not had any major mechanical or other issues with my car except for taking it in for a quick software update and changing the battery. Combine all of this with the excellent purchase experience at the dealer in NC (Leith Alfa Romeo), including the reasonable purchase price, to the smooth service at my local Alfa dealership (Safford Alfa Romeo - Tysons Corner, VA), it is clear that Alfa Romeo is laser focused on the US market. If you are looking for a sports car that has all the current safety features, excellent build quality, attractive styling, and superb driving characteristics, the Giulia is an exceptional buy.

Horrid, antiquated, ergonomic disaster
This is how cars from behind the Iron Curtain used to feel, for those of you who remember before the Iron Curtain fell. Yeah, they had 4 wheels and an engine, but they weren't much fun. Well, if you want to re-live these bad old days, get yourself into an Alfa Giulia. I had one for 3 days as a rental, and that is 3 days more than anyone should be punished with one. Makes the Toyota Camry I had feel like a luxury car. Would you like a trunk that can accommodate one small suitcase? Then here's your winner? How about bad steering posture, would you like that? Well come right up! You cannot sit comfortably without the steering column hitting your knees. Yeah, I've had that before, but it was cars from the 1960s. Then there's the really distinctive lunacy--the shifting paddles. Few people ever use those, so sensible car makers (like the Germans), tuck them behind the steering wheel where they do no harm. But not the Giulia. They must be real proud of theirs. They are a garish chrome finish and about the size and shape of ballet slippers. And they stick very far out to either side. So if you want to use the turn signal, or the windshield wipers, you will fight with the paddles first. You said you want to use the turn signal? Well, would you like it to cancel itself too? Tough! Once in a while it will do that, but mostly you will struggle to manually cancel. Would you like your start button on your steering wheel? No, I didn't think so. Neither to I. But the designers of the Giulia thought this is a wonderful place to put it. The automatic gearshift is the kind with an escutcheon, not a rubbery boot. When you get this on a German car, it's firm and solid. On the Giulia, when you shift, it feels like the whole trim is coming apart. After a while, this is not much fun either. Would you like the car to look like it's been styled for adults, rather than babies? Out of luck again. The whole interior styling looks like the designer was previously designing plastic toy trucks in his last job. I am just mind-boggled that anyone who ever drove one for more than 50 feet would buy one. It's a very diverse world out there, and different folks like different things, but it's truly hard to imagine how anyone can inspect this car with even the most cursory look and decide that they want to buy it. If someone gives you one free, well you can't look a gift horse in the mouth. But to pay good money for such a car....that simply strains my credulity. Please don't!

Jerky / noisy / ridiculous turn stalk
Rented the car for one day. Hated it. The car jerks when the gas is released, the turn stalk is a nuisance - you can't cancel a turn signal after changing lanes unless you pull the stalk in the opposite direction but only a certain way by applying a certain amount of force. Otherwise, you end up pulling it in both directions dozens of times in the space of one trip. The inside feels rather noisy. Infotainment system is overly complicated. Will never drive this car again! Back to Japanese vehicles.

If you want a Ferrari engineer Italian sports sedan this is the one. Nothing better in its price range. Test drive one yourself.

"And I ...don't want to fall in love ...With you"
Remember the ad? Got my 2023 leftover with a big discount in April of last year. 10k miles in now, and am absolutely extatic about the car. Opted for the base version with the big boy seat. At 6'2" 240lbs I actually do fit in the sports seats but prefer to have a little wriggle room. Rear seats are a bit tight but once people are situated they are quite comfortable. Driving is an absolute delight. The car handles as if it is on rails. The engine is very responsive but I feel it needs to be revved hard to get the most out of it, it is fairly sedate at lower revs and the auto tranny wants to keep the revs low in all but the most aggressive driving mode. Fortunately with the perfectly executed flappy paddles arranged to the steering column as opposed to the steering wheel an upshift is only a flick of the fingers away. The interior is gorgeous. No horrid huge touch screen to spoil the ambiance, the Giuia's is nicely tucked in into the dash front. Buttons for the heat and vent, and the seat heater etc. It's one of the few non-generic looking cars pit there and my heart skips a beat each time I walk up to it. Mine is a lovely purple-ish blue with little paint chips that glitter when the sun hits it. I could have done without the nanny electrics and if I could disable the adaptive cruise control I would. I don't use the sunroof, the massive roof panel lifting up supported by a couple of mechanical arms does not inspire confidence and I can just imagine the car standing somewhere with the roof stuck open and the rain pouring in. The panoramic view is a nice touch though. I wish it had a manual tranny. If it had one I would have bought one years ago. I have a 1966 Giulia also. So now I have one of the earliest amd one of the last .... A great sendoff for the ICE era.
