I have a 2005 CRD that I purchased new. This is the most amazing deisel I have owned and coming from a farm, I have had several. The one negative I have to say about this Jeep is really against the Jeep/Chrysler people themselves. Not 1500k's after the warranty expired, my turbo charger died. I did everything by the book in the way of regular maintenance so I was very disappointed ... Read More
Engine light flashing on and off. Jeep sounds like it is not getting gas, stalling, shaking. Black buildup on inside of tailpipe. tac and temp.ok. What the heck, this jeep has low mileage.
did you ever find out what the problem was? I get the same rumbling, worse if I use then disengage the 4wd . Mine is a 2005 Liberty --also working on my second broken rear window regulator in one year. other than this I love my jeep.
I just read this post and had to chime in my thoughts. I purchased one of the first CRD's on the lot in 2005. I now have 98M on it and other than the EGR problems that I think every owner had when they first came out, I have had zero problems. I pull 3 different trailers with it on a regular basis and can say that this engine/vehicle combination has ... Read More
I have had 2 Jeep Liberty's that have had this material a 2005 and a 2006. It was so upsetting that even a soft mist of rain stained the seats. We tried everything. I checked the brakes of some other vehicles with anti-lock brakes and found that they do the same thing. The anti-lock brakes stop the vehicle by modulating the brakes on and off very rapidly. Just for the heck of it I would say it's time to sell or trade it while it still running good. I had a 2005 Liberty CRD. It had so many, many, many, any how it had a lot of big problems. I finally told the dealer to replace the pads and to check the rotors. They resurfaced the front discs and found that both rear rotors were delaminated (junk). The brakes felt like new again and the peddle did not fade. This ... Read More

Update: Check the pedal with no key in the ignition. Pedal is hard, does not fall away. Turn on the key, this energizes the antilock brake electronic module. Now pedal falls away. Mine had the filter housing replaced under warranty. I have heard that the problem is air is sucked into the filter via the plug assemblies. You take the whole fuel filter assembly off to change the fuel filter? What a waste of time. Take the WIF sensor connector off and just spin the filter off.
Fuel filter change is not a five minute job. I have done it several times (yearly) and altogether takes about forty-five minutes. You need to remove the sensors at their connections and the hoses, then unbolt the whole unit from the firewall. Once off and out of the engine ... Read More

Found out the hard way, don't let the dealer replace the fuel filter. The "labor operation code" lists 1 hour for the change! At my local Jeep dealer, that's $100 ! It takes maybe 5 minutes to change the filter and maybe another 3 minute to prime it. Chalk it up to lessons learned :-(
I am new to this forum, but I find it very informative. Just changed the alternator on my 2005 Liberty CRD, at 76,000 miles! I use a "remanufactured unit" that was a lot less than one from MOPAR.
