PARIS — Lexus ramped up its rivalry with BMW's 3 Series, unveiling new retractable-hardtop editions of its IS sport sedan at the 2008 Paris Auto Show. Toyota's premium marque said it plans to begin selling the new IS 250C and IS 350C in the U.S. in late spring 2009.

As with their sedan counterparts, the IS 250C is powered by a 204-horsepower 2.5-liter V6, while the IS 350C gets a 306-hp 3.5-liter V6. A six-speed automatic transmission is available on either engine; a six-speed manual is offered only on the IS 250C.

The four-passenger, two-door convertible features a three-panel aluminum roof that retracts in 21 seconds. Only the hood, headlamps, door handles and mirrors are in common with the IS sedan; all other body panels have been revised, including longer front doors, a revised front fascia and longer rear overhang for more trunk space.
