  I had the same problem with my 02 Escape, it failed to start after being driven when the engine was hot. A new IAC and fuel pump did not correct the problem. After reading this post I had the crankshaft positioning sensor changed and it runs and starts great!!! Thanks for your post!

My radiator was completely empty and the engine got very hot and would not accelerate just like you described. After filling it up with water and letting it cool it ran fine.   Try replacing the PCV and Crank Position Sensor also.

  It ended up being a clogged cadilytic converter, I just cut mine of and straight piped it because only one was clogged and now my escape runs like its new.

  Each cylinder has an individial coil pack that has a low voltage harness connected to it. No possibility of crossing up the wiring as with the older single coil/distributor design using high voltage cables. The low voltage harness can barely reach its own coil pack much less a wrong one.

  Any chance the plug wires aren't on in the correct order? Even two of them switched can really mess you up. Failing that, there are many more components and sensors that could have failed to cause this. Sounds like it may actually be in limp mode.....if it has such a thing.

  If things were working before the plug replacement, I doubt that the EGR/DPFE components failed all of a sudden. Even one bad plug will allow you to drive OK, just a bit rough and certainly not at peak performance. I did my plugs this summer and had no problems.   Picklespoon, By the way,I forgot to tell you that upon my long overdue retirement from the Government Meatgrinder, My family and I (mostly I) traded both our cars- a Dodge Durango and a Dodge Neon- for two Ford Escapes. Not a sorry minute so far. Good Luck with yours. :D

  ihave a 2001 ford escape with a mach sound system. recently the radio goes on but no sound. i have volume lines,stations change but no sound. if i shut the ignition off then start it again in about 8 to 10 seconds later the radio lights up and the sound is there. has anyone had a similiar problem and if so how was it solved ? thanks bamjim

  we found the abs problem. i unplugged the connector from the abs module below the master cylinder and one of the pins was detached and in the plug. it was pin #6 which happens to carry power to the right rear sensor. heat damage was evident, so possibly a shorted sensor, which we previously changed, could have caused it. the dealer technician said he sees a lot of bad sensors, but ...   Hi there I have a 2001 Ford Escape V6. When I turn on the car the running lights turn on, but when I am driving a couple of minutes later the lights start to blink. But they stop blinking when I turn on the regular lights on. Has this happend to anyone yet? Or does anyone know what might be the problem? :(

  I have a 2001 Mazda Tribute that I think might have the same front-end problem. Every time I go over a bump I hear a kind of a rattling or ticking, almost like something is a little loose in the undercarriage. It's a really short noise, i.e. you have to listen carefully because it comes immediately after a bump. Could this be the same shocks problem? Any help much appreciated.

  I know about the radiator fill light, I had the exact same problem with my 2001 escape. Unfortunately you have to replace the overflow tank. It is a one piece sealed unit that houses the sensor.
