Air Conditioner has gone out $1500. Emissions sensor has gone out $1500. Incessant squeaks and rattles. I have basically torn out the dash trying to find one rattle - still haven't found it. Dealerships suck. I owned an Acura before this - I will go back.

I really love this car when its not in the the repair shop. Fortunately, I have found a tire shop to do my repairs. The volvo dealer repair shops are a major league ripoff. Shim kit 10 dollars online , dealership 120.00 . Rear pads and rotors 600.00 (tire shop 280)The brakes have been my major problem. Somthing is always wrong. When the check engine light comes on be sure to check the master hose , a leak here will create erroneous data on the 02 sensor. I have become used to all the sqeaks , creaks and rattles. Next time I will buy toyota/lexus or honda/acura.

At 140 mph . . .

1996 Volvo 850 Platinum Limited Edition Turbo 4dr Sedan

The Turbo can achieve that speed but it sounds and feels like it's in a hurricane. Bought new. Few problems: 2 batteries, some nuisance rattles. Smokes up mountain roads. New higher profile tires: handling and ride improved. Wt. distribution compromises handling. Steering heavy - requires firm, deliberate input; precise road sense in return but over- steer prone. Seating comfort is remarkable. Repair/routine maintenance myself so expenses minimal. Replacing pads at 45K without the need for rotors. Unused extended warty. Leather durable and wearing exceptionally well. Unless it begins to fall apart, will keep it around for another 5 to 8 yrs.

Love This Car - And I am Picky!

I love this car. Never thought I would even own a Volvo, let alone say I loved one. Keep them maintained and they will keep on going! Do a few modifications and these will not only get better gas mileage (30+ if you can keep your foot out of the turbo) but also blow the doors off of most cars out there.
