Best Vehicle I've Ever Owned
When I purchased the Volvo in 1996, I had no idea that I'd still be driving it and loving it 12 years later. It is still very quiet and comfortable. I've never had any out-of-the ordinary repair issues. This is a great car!
Volvo's Are Lemons
When I first bought a Volvo I thought I was buying quality. Little did I know that I was going to be taking my car into the shop every 6 months for major repairs. Problems have been crank shaft main seal (2), AC (4), stereo, front bearings, exterior weather trim and these repairs don't include the regular maintance like brakes and strunts. I've had Japanese cars that were much older and drove them to the ground. After this experience I will diffinitely go back to Japanese cars. I bought my Volvo at 40,000 miles which is considered new to Volvo but the problems are one after an other.

Sorry I bought it
The 1996 850 has been a mechanical nightmare for me. Rear Main seals, alternator, A/C problems, blower motor, radiator fan, cooling leaks, engine mounts, ABS module failure, bad antenna, leaky sunroof, peeling paint. I bought this car due to Volvo's legenday durability and high resale. Today, the car isn't worth squat on trade and needs about $2k worth of further reapirs to return it back to normal.
Need a Second Job Just to Keep Going
As with others, I have foudn this car a disappointment. It works very well, but I need to work two jobs to keep it in good working order. Also, quality of dealer servicing is variant. I had a dealer mess up a belt replacement, which caused engine failure on highway, destroying original engine. I have spent approx. $13K servicing this car since buying it new. I am looking for a new Japanese compact...
Extremely Reliable
I have owned 5 volvos and everyone of them have been great cars
