Best Diesel SUV

Unfortunately these cars are not available now thanks to “Dieselgate”. I highly recommend you buy one if you can get your hands on one. Zero troubles in over 3 years of ownership. 30 mpg Hwy!!! City driving about 24 mpg.

What some may not know or remember is that the Touareg and the Porsche Cayenne are based on the same platform. It's like Chevy Suburban and Cadillac Escalade. The big differences are styling and engine. If you don't require more hp, the V6 is more than capable to take you anywhere you need to go. The diesel has a ton more torque, so that might be the engine if you need more oomph. The materials, fit and finish in this car are a step above and I think feels better than new VW. Plastics are high quality, it feels very solid, and doors shut with a vault like quality. I love the car so far. I purchased an 'R' line, so styling is a bit more sporty and I think looks much better than the standard Touareg, although they still basically the same. It's too bad they still don't offer this high quality vehicle. VW tried going upmarket with this car and the Phaeton. I guess Americans weren't keen on the idea of spending that much money on a VW, but they were definitely worth it. Nissan started Infiniti brand to go upmarket. Toyota started Lexus. Honda started Acura. Mazda almost started the Amati brand but backed off when the economy slowed in the early 90's. Mazda still brought what would have been an Amati to market as the Mazda Millenia while having the 626 and 929. The Millenia was the much nicer car and even had a solar panel in the sunroof that powered a fan to help keep the car cool on hot days. But I digress. . The Touareg is fantastic. It still looks clean and fresh even though it is about 10 years old. The design has aged well and I think will continue to do so. I'm a new big fan of this SUV.

The TDI TOUAREG is going to be a hard SUV to find. VW not making TOUAREG any more.

This auto is fast, quiet, roomy…incredible performance and comfort. The only thing lacking are the current-day safety and infotainment options.
