I purchased a slightly used 2013 VW Touareg VR6 LUX approx. 4 weeks ago. Upon driving home from the dealer I noticed that between the speeds of 60 and 75 mph the steering wheel would shake back and forth. This was confirmed over many miles and all types of road surfaces. The car would also pull to the right as well as exhibit a vibration in the seat. The car has now spent 3 weeks at the dealer and after approx. 20 tires and countless road force balancing the issue still exists. VW, in an apparent attempt to limit their liability, is blaming the tires. They now refuse to attempt any more repairs and have told me to pick the car up. They acknowledge the issue to still to be present.

Volkswagen just settled a class action lawsuit because many of their vehicles with factory sunroofs leaks in earlier production cars. Apparently they still have not fixed the problem with the touareg. I have been to the dealer for the problem to get repaired and they claimed it was fixed and it was not. Off to the dealer again. Wouldn't it be better if they just corrected the issue. Anyway, it is a nice car, but I certainly don't think it is worth the problems. I would certainly look at other cars in its class unless you want to bunk out at the service department the first year you own the car.

I bought the 2013 VW Tuareg TDI. I am a car adjuster and I know the automotive field very well. The TDI is by far the best diesel SUV for the money. Has probably one of the best overall quality interiors and the driving performance is out of this world for a 6 cylinder and has a very quiet diesel engine. zzzzz The 2013 VW Tuareg is the best kept secret... till my review.

Traded in my '11 Cayenne S. I would say the VW is 90% of the Porsche for about 60% of the price. Actually, I like the slightly simpler interior and the easier ingress/egress from the seats. Feels substantial and drives really well. Quality seems very high. Nice car to fly around without attracting a lot of attention. Excellent fuel economy and you truly can't tell its a diesel.
10 years later. Worth it.

I purchased a 2013 Touareg Sport in 2023. And I'm an completely satisfied. Its just so smooth of a ride. And the interior is definitely refined and high end for the class of vehicle it's in. I love my vehicle and I do t have much negativity about it, I've only owned it a month. I have the tan interior and the Vienna leather is beautiful. The nav and dash is clean and clear. All around a great truck that does feel like a smaller vehicle. Gets 0-60 in about 7 seconds so it's definitely not slow. Fun to drive and very stylish. I appreciate the work the Volkswagen people put into the vehicle. I am a happy owner. Gas mileage is as expected for an SUV. If your having second thoughts just go and give it a test drive.

3000 miles in thirty days. Meets or exceeds expectations. Mixed highway and city driving nets 26mpg. Only trip of 1000 miles got 29 mph but highway speeds were 75mph plus. Compared to Porsche Cayenne diesel, no different except $25k less!

I have this sly reg 2013 since 2 year now put 40000 miles in 2years now 100000 miles on it still great no prob My dad bro said in Germany the same suv has 370000 k km on it Let see how long it ll stay with me

this car is a wonder to drive. it has tons of pickup for its size, and a luxurious feel. the brown leather is top notch. the sound system requires some updating, but the 25+mpg driving for me has been a savings vs my cross tour. I am happy every time I drive it.

I bought this car last Feb 2023 with around 89k miles already on it. Now, here in September, we sit at 98,700 miles and I love this SUV so much. I use ethanol-free gasoline 100% of the time and the VR6 sings with it. we are getting 18-20 mpg in town and 25-27 mpg freeway. Power is good and it is pretty dang quick off the line. No rattles, great steering, great ride, handles fantastically. I love to knock it down a gear or two letting the engine braking slow it down and once in the apex of the curve, hit the throttle while upshifting. I can feel the rear end squat down as it powers out of the turn. I just installed new Toyo Celcius CUV tires on it and the performance has been amazing. Way quieter than the garbage tires that were on it previously. Best of all, they are all-weather, 3-peak mountain snowflake tires with a 60k mile warranty. My wife and I drive this everywhere. The seats are seriously comfortable. Like 1,000 miles per day comfortable. I am tall with long legs and even with the front seat positioned where I like it, I still have legroom behind me for another 6 footer. Cargo space is awesome. The bluetooth even allows for basic controls if I'm streaming music thru my iPhone on the OEM head unit. We did get to experience winter driving as our local area got absolutely dumped on by snow. I never had to do anything, just drove it as I would normally would in snow and the Touareg just powers through. No slipping, no wheelspin, just pure traction. I LOVE this vehicle. LOVE IT! My wife and I bought it because we both love VWs and it has the capability to tow our 1955 Thunderbird to shows. 7,700 pounds from a vehicle that easily fits in our garage. No regrets. Just love. Update - March 5, 2024 We are over 103k miles now and this SUV continues to run great. I fill it with ethanol-free gas, which is a bit more expensive than premium but, my mechanic says that this is best for engines using direct injection. Ethanol leaves deposits around the injectors than can decrease performance over time requiring expensive cleanings. With the ethanol-free gas, I am averaging 20.3 mpg combined for the 14,057 miles I've had it. My best mpg was 28.7 at 72 mph. I live in northern Utah and have a mountain pass to traverse just to go to Salt Lake or Ogden so, the 28.7 mpg was earned - no long stretch on perfectly flat highway. The seats continue to provide all day comfort. I feel like a king on his throne when driving this SUV. Maintenance - I have done two oil changes since I've had the Touareg. The first one was at the dealer right after I bought it. I always do this with used cars after I buy them, mostly for my own peace of mind. The dealer, as expected charged me a lot for this service. The second oil change, I took it to another place locally, who I continue to use now. That oil change also included a tire rotation and a check/top-off of fluids. Where the dealer charged me $120, my mechanic charged me $61. Repairs - Last summer, we were seeing coolant on the floor of the garage. It wouldn't leak when the engine was hot, rather as it started to cool down, coolant would leak. We took it in and had it fixed. The leak was coming from a part on the engine, close to the transmission and, for the life of me, I don't remember what the part was. I do remember how much it cost to fix it, including buying a new part. It was a shade under $200. Not too bad, if you ask me. So much for maintenance and repairs being expensive. I still plan on keeping this vehicle for a long time. It is just so nice to drive - good power, good torque, decent mpg. 1 year later and I still do not regret this purchase. Update #2, Sept 2024 Still no regrets. The SUV with the VR6 gets about 20 mpg combined. City driving is a lot of stop and go as the town my wife and I live in is growing and as such, there are a lot of small town roads with city traffic - 4-way stops with long lines of cars at all 4 corners. On the freeway, it gets around 26-27 mpg. Maintenance - I passed 109k miles last month so I took it in for its first big service, with me. I bought it almost 20k miles ago. I did the oil change, tire rotation, and AC drain. That was around $300. There's this pipe under the condenser for the AC that has a weird bend. The water that gets evacuated from the condenser pools in that pipe which causes it to leak into the front passenger footwell. The job doesn't take long to do once you get to the pipe. It's getting to it that takes time. It need new rear brake pads and rotors - $500 with labor. The front/rear differentials, transfer case and transmission all need fluid changes and that's another $800 or so. Maintenance is expensive. But, once I get those done, it'll be another 60k miles before I need to worry about it again. Reliability - The Touareg is solid. It runs great, drives well, and I have no repairs that need to be done. In all, I can recommend this SUV for someone that wants the AWD security in foul weather, towing capacity up to 7,700 pounds, good mpg, and easily fits inside a garage. Comfort - Holy cow, the seats are nice. I am a tall guy and passengers behind me, even 6 footers, have plenty of legroom. There's storage bins in the doors that are deep and wide - my Yeti thermos fits in there with ease. All of the resting points for my elbows are soft and comfortable. The engine is quiet at 75+ mph and there's minimal road noise from the Toyo Celsius all-weather tires. Visibility is great as all of the windows are big enough and the rear-view camera has a wide field of view. Overall Rating - I would say the only downside is the cost of maintenance. But it is in-line with what my friends pay for their Mazda CX-5, Ford Explorer, and Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. It's pricey, but that's just the way things are now. I wouldn't say maintenance is extravagantly over and above any other vehicle out there now. Therefore, it still gets a 5-Star rating for me. Final Say - I love it. It does everything well and is pretty economical for a 5,000+ pound SUV with full-time AWD. If you are looking at buying one, I say go for it. They're really nice.

This is my first VW and have owned it for two weeks now. I recently drove it 400 miles one way and was not a bit tired. No shifting or moving around in the seat because I was uncomfortable. What a dream car. Love the traffic button which advised me of an upcoming slowdown. A few tiny complaints. One, the height of the armrest is too low and the top of the door too high so had to rest my arm on my leg. Also the sunshade lets in a lot of heat. I live in Florida. And what is the CD player doing in the glovebox? So far I am getting 26.5 mpg but think that will improve with time. Another complaint is the audio. My 2007 Ford Escape was better. Otherwise, love the VW.
