Used 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle Consumer Reviews
It is not your father's VW
I purchased a 1998 Beetle only to have BIG problems with it. By 50,000 miles I had replace 4 headlights, 6 driving lights a brake handle, 5 window switches, 5 inside door handles, 3 radios and a set of brakes and rotors. Then the trouble really started. Two radiator fans, engine fuse box, air conditioner conpresser, computer and more. So, I figured it was just the first year of production, surely they worked out the bugs! NOPE! I got a 2000 Beetle and still had the minor problems plus a new clutch at 30,000 miles.
Still a great car after 10 years
The VW diesel is the best, who needs a hybrid. Mileage has been 38-45 mpg over the last ten years. Car is very comfortable with 5 levels of heat for the leather seats.Car has never let our family down. With the rear seats folded you have a lot of space to haul things. If you have to drive a lot, get a diesel, your savings will add up over time. We have 145k miles and still going strong. We bought it new and still like the car.

Turbo fun
I've had this car for 2+ years. I have had no problems what so ever! The car has been reliable and I have averaged 27.5 mpg around town. The turbo is plenty fast and reaches speeds in excess of 120 mph with ease. The after market for this vehicle is huge if you like to costumize your car. I have tuned my 1.8T for 200hp 240 tq with no problems what so ever!
Great little car
I was looking at hybrids, but after seeing the actual mileage, I went with a used Turbo Diesel Beetle. It gets great mileage and is a good, comfortable, and stable vehicle at home, in the city, and on the highway. At 70 mph it tracks straight, and is very stable. Its gas mileage on the highway is 53 mpg, and in town combined has never been less than 41 mpg. If it was only city driving it would be less, but I have never been a strictly city driver. All in all, this is a well done car.
Love My Bug
I love my Volkswagen New Beetle, and I am thinking about buying a new one when I graduate from college this May. My parents and I bought the car used almost a year ago, and I have few complaints so far. I love the car's styling - very distinct and has a nice, techno feel. It offers a lot of luxuries that most cars in its class do not. Overall, it is pretty reliable, too. I have, however, had one very significant problem: my A/C system just failed, and it had to be replaced. I have an awesome independent mechanic, though, and he fixed it for about half of what the dealer quoted me.
