Cute but crappy

Took it in the next day after purchase to service the driver window because it didn't want to go up.The interior melts in the sun.Switches in the car fall off, like window switches. Cupholders detach therefore, i have a big orange juice stain on the passenger floor.Replaced both headlights at least once every year, very expensive, due to labor.VW made it difficult for customers to do themselves.Head of car hit pavement going over bumps.Forgot how many times I took it to get something fixed or replaced.AC filter needed to be cleaned within the 1st year and VW charged me for that. Hubcaps fell off in the 1st year of ownership.I hate this car.Even my Sentra from the 80's treated me better.

My Blue Bug

A lot of bang for the buck. I am a 6 foot, 240 lb male and have to say that the bug is the most comfortable and roomy car in its class. There's plenty of head and leg room up front. This is the most enjoyable aspect of my experience thus far, but don't think for a minute that it ends there. The car has been extremely reliable and I've found it quite a blast to drive. The 5 speed manual transmission has plenty of pep and is quite comfortable cruising at 90mph.

Pretty, but a Gamble

Buying a 2000 VW Bug is a bit of a gamble, you can get a wonderful car, or a unreliable lemon, so its best to get your hands on a 2003+ model. I have had a myriad of electrical failures / hiccups with my Beetle, and I get the feeling that this wouldn't be so dire if I had a better dealership. I've also had the problems with coolant pumps, engine speed sensors, the fragile window switches and more recently the HVAC controls. Also, some of the interior trim chips/wears very easily. Yet I still can't hate my car, it's a good car for driving around town, gets a lot of attention, feels well planted on the highway, is very tough chassis-wise and it's generally pleasant. But it could be so MUCH more rewarding

Read the other reviews, problem is crappy dealers not the car. They should be able to have them fixed the first time or so. Mine's been very reliable since 1999, only a few minor glitches. Would I buy another? I am. Two New Beetles. Love 'em!

Terrible Wretch of a Car

This is a terrible car! The worst I have ever heard of! It breaks all of the time. It keeps on getting recalled. Also, every time a headlight goes out, I have to take it to a dealership and pay someone $80 per hour to have a mechanic install the new headlight, because you have to have a special tool that not even my regular mechanic has. It cost me $50 to have a $5 headlight installed!
