Did the engineers drive their work?
Researching mid size trucks I tested the Tacoma. Poor acceleration, gears changed like for no reason, bouncing back and forth. New vehicle? My god. I wanted to scream. Decided to have a sit down with sales. Told him was shopping and would be in touch. Will try another dealership and drive. Thanks to this review board this buyer is very aware. PS. I previously tested a Colorado and none of these problems were present. These problems may just be the roll of the dice. When I make my final choice (from on line inventory) my test drive will resemble the scene from the flick ‘Used Cars’ where the race car driver poses as a buyer and takes the ‘57 Chevy for a test drive. BTW, I do all my negotiations via E mail, I pick my exact vehicle and go from there. I don’t let them treat me like I’m buying a timeshare property.

Would be great with 4.0 v6
I waited months for this truck. I could hardly hold my excitement in when the dealer finally called and said it had arrived. I now have 4500 miles on it, and am considering selling it. This truck cannot maintain highway speeds in Montana (80MPH). The constant shifting drive me crazy. I have two 4.0 V6 Toyota's, they are far superior to my new truck on the highway. I love the rest of the truck and would be 100% satisfied if it had a better engine. update: traded it in on a 2018 4runner TRD PRO. love it

3rd Tacoma is best one yet.
I have had a 1996,2006, and now a 2017 Tacoma. All were access cab v6 4x4. This one is by far the best. The ride difference from the 2006 to the 2017 is unreal. It feels like you are riding in a sedan and not a truck. The engine is noticeably stronger than my 2006 which also had a V6. All of my trucks have been manuals. I was pondering switching to the automatic this time but I was reading way too many negative things about it. The manual on the 2017 shifts amazingly smooth. There is minimal to no driftback unless you are on a steep incline. My 2006 would scream at 70mph. I have to let off the gas on the highway with this one because before I know it I am doing 80. I average anywhere between 18-22mpg depending how heavy I am being on the pedal. The fuel mileage is the only negative thing I can at about the truck, and it is not even that bad. The seats are comfortable and controls are simple yet efficient. I would highly recommend the truck to anyone looking for a beefy midsize. I would go with the manual as it is a breeze to drive.

Lost power 3 times
Absolutely no power at all. This is 7th Tacoma-- worst ever. Lucky to do 60 passing, then is wound so tight. Shifts all time-- crazy. Lost power 3 times now, computer at dealership showed no codes first time, has done 2 more times ( total 3 ) goes back Mon. Trying to find a answer from some one in states-- cannot only be mine. Like the black/ red design interior first ever.

Recently traded in my 2015 Tundra for a 2017 Tacoma TRD Off Road. Paid almost exactly for the Tacoma what I paid for the Tundra two years ago (approx $37,500). I have driven Tundras since 2008 and loved them but I thought downsizing would be good since I rarely used the Tundra's full size capability and only averaged 15 MPG for mostly highway driving. So the Tacoma looks good and has a smaller engine, so I guessed better mileage and ease of parking at Wal-Mart. I have driven it about 800 miles so these are my first impressions. Driver seat is VERY uncomfortable for me and I can't adjust it to fit me properly. I am 5' 10" and 200 lbs. THERE IS NO POWER DRIVER SEAT. My wife's Honda CRV has a power memory seat for gosh sakes!!. C"mon Toyaota. Wake up to who is buying this vehicle. Printed pattern on the seats looks like a design from the 1980's. The engine is my other complaint. Again, I am used to the big V-8 Tundra, but the Tacoma just feels under powered. When you push down on the gas pedal it seems like it has to downshift to go faster, or entering the highway seems to tax it's capabilities. Mileage so far is about 18MPG while I expected at least 20. The electronics and navigation are easy to use. If you want one, take it on a much longer test drive than I did. I regret my decision to buy this vehicle. Next time I would look at the Colorado, and I hate any GM product and have told my wife to shoot me if I ever even considered a GM product. Please Toyota, help save my life and upgrade the Tacoma! ⁸ UPDATE: After driving the Tacoma for 9 months, I traded it in on a new Tundra and my life was back to normal.
