Truck For Life

I've always been driving a car, but when Toyota made a bigger Tacoma, I told myself, it is time. I usually drive this truck in the city, but I have taken it to the beach, mud, and dirt roads. Let me tell you, this truck can handle it all. I even helped a Ford F150 that got stuck in the sand. I may have lost my 3 series BMW, but I got this new TACOMA. This bad boy handles very good. It's so smooth, you will think you're driving a car.

A great truck with a few flaws

I bought this 06 Tacoma new and at 12 years and 160K it hopefully has years to go. It rides and handles well in all weather. Great V6 engine with plenty of power that gets 18-19 MPG. Comfortable on long trips and all terrain. Shortcomings include electrical needing complete overhaul just out of warranty: $2300 then $400 more a year later; Inadequate leafsprings I had to add a leaf to just to carry a moderate load. Toyota wouldn’t accept that it was a problem until they were recalled a few years later. They installed the same crappy springs it had in the first place. The frame was replaced at 10 years old under a special warranty because they were rotting out here in the NE, which is great.

Not very satisfied

Overall probably the best truck in its class but for a $30K truck I would expect more standard features such as an illuminated glove box, illuminated console, illuminated sun visor mirrors, cargo bed light (the Tundra has it), heated mirrors, outside temp. and compass display (only available on sport or off road models). The transmission is extremely shifty and in my opinion rough. It often feels like I got rear ended when coming to a stop. My 2004 Jeep with 180K miles shifted much more smoothly. The stock stereo system is absolutely terrible. Virtually no highs, muffled lows and no midrange adjustment. Stereo in my 2000 4 Runner is 5 times better. Again, I would expect more at this pricepoint.

Great Truck

I have the 4wd 2.7L 4 cyl std trans. The truck is economical (22-26 mpg), comfortable and dependable. The interior is comfortable and utilitarian. Mine is a work truck and hauls my tools, firewood and bike with ease. It is comfortable on long trips, has a great stereo with disc player. My only gripe is that the speedometer reads high (about 8- 10%) with stock tires. Although it isn't that important to me I also like the styling.

Bought my 2006 Black, 4WD, Short-bed TRD, used in June of 2007. It had 20K miles on it, and it is sitting at just over 60K miles now (April 2010). Wanted a smaller truck that was 4WD with four doors and I was willing to sacrifice power, fun, and space. So far, the space is the only sacrifice. The bed is pretty small when hauling things, but I knew that going into the deal. For the trucks size and weight, the power is outstanding. I pulled a Chevy 1500 out of a ditch with ease of course, I was still on asphalt and had good traction. Regardless, this was my first Toyota truck and I will own it until the wheels fall off! Great little truck, and still get compliments all the time.
