Used 2000 Toyota Sienna Consumer Reviews
Satisfied Sienna Owner
My wife and I bought this Sienna new and every 3,000 miles have it serviced. It has over 132,000 miles and for the exception of an alternator has never required any repairs other than the usual brake linings, tires, batteries, etc. It has a lot of "punch' when you step on the gas; almost like you're driving a race car! This was the first non-American vehicle I ever bought and for reliability beats all the American cars I've ever owned hands down! This is a great car for a family who doesn't want to shell out a lot for repairs.
My 2000 Toyota Sienna I bought with 173,000 miles.
2000 Sienna XLE I bought for 1,100 cash with a liitle front fender damage and hood damage does not latch properly. So I installed custom bolt on Hood Pins (Chrome) with lock Pins.I Purchased, it has 193,000 miles. It runs great drive every day. It is Kinda Slow but that is OK not in hurry any way. Very Very Comfortable 4 captain chairs, 1 bench chair in back. I have not had to repair or Fix nothing. It is loaded with all luxuries you could imagine. Definetely Soccer Mom Van. I love the Sliding Doors Each Side and Mostly the Dark Glass that seems to Curtain the entire Side. So I Am So Happy to Own This Particular Model and Year. I decided to keep it and Will Not Sale It !!! Unless you offer me 12,000.00 Cash.

Good, but with problems
We had no problems until 65,000 miles. Since then, the transmission busted ($2,300 for a rebuilt trans.) and both sliding door handles have broken (around $330 to fix for both). All tires had to be changed at 15,000 miles and again at 40,000. Definitely some alignment issues. A good car, but quality control seems to be becoming an issue for some Toyotas. That said, I'm considering replacing this with another Toyota (RAV4), so I guess it goes to show I've not given up on Toyota's perceived reliability.
They all have defective engines
I bought a 2000 Sienna and people should know that all the 1st generation Sienna's have what are known as "sludge engines". Toyota sent out 3.3 million letters to owners extending the warranty from 3 to 8 years because of this. The engines are defective so join a forum before you buy one and ask about the sludge problem. Also, from what I've read, Toyota has been really nasty and unless the car was ready to die next week they wouldn't honor the warranty extension. Very, very few people got any warranty work done. So it was a con job and because of this engine problem it would be wise to get a different vehicle.

Buy it again
Owned our Sienna for 8/ 1/2 years, was a great car, 100% reliable, always dealer serviced and never any mechanical issues. Well done. Hated to see it go, but needed a bigger rig.
