Beautiful Well Executed Car

2021 Toyota Highlander XSE 4dr SUV (3.5L 6cyl 8A)

I just traded a similar 2015 XLT Ford Explorer for a 2021 ‘Moon Dust’ XSE Highlander. I returned to Toyota after 15 years, I always liked the brand, but their designs were too conservative. However, over the last two years, Toyota has made their entire fleet looks sportier! PROS: elegant design, well-appointed interior, fuel economy is significantly better that my old Ford Explorer, I am saving about $12 per trip to the gas station, I am paying in the low $30s now and range is phenomenal. I just completed a 200-mile round trip from Orlando to Tampa and still have 3/4 of a tank. This car is also super smooth to drive, there is no engine noise or vibrations, it has better driving dynamics than the Explorer (less body displacement), the engine is peppy and responsive. It also comes with eco and sport drive modes, the rear camera has very good definition, I also love the pilot seats in the 2nd row, and wind noise is minimal contrary to what others reviews said. Yes, you can hear the wind at highway speed, however, with the radio on even at low volume, you won’t notice it at all. The technology package is also great, what a difference makes to jump from a 2015 car to a 2021 model, this car knows what you need to do next and just does it for you automatically. The adaptative cruise control is so smooth that you won’t feel it in action. Add reliability and low depreciation, and this car is a no brainer. CONS: 3rd row is somewhat small, although still adequate (trade off with fuel efficiency I guess). NO dim button to adjust LCD Screen contrast, you have to navigate the menu to do it. Backup lines won’t turn to assist you with parallel parking, they remain straight. This is a feature than come standard in new $20K cars, so I am disappointed that is lacking in the Highlander. Perhaps is something that you can adjust, I haven’t tried it yet (ask the salesman why or how when you are shopping). Finally, this is more of a suggestion for Toyota than a complain, the entire front console is massive, and filled with useful cavernous compartments, this is unique to the Highlander. Although these open spaces are very useful during the day, they are too dark at night. This car can definitely benefit of some soft light glowing in those hidden areas. Summary this is a great car, we bought the XSE, but the LE I think is even a better value, I just couldn’t convince my wife to go for it. .

I love this vehicle. I went in to buy a RAV 4 but after driving the Highlander, I was in love. The only problem I have had was the air conditioned driver seat did not work when I bought it. The dealership had to order a part so during the hot summer my seat did not work. I

XSE AWD is on time

2021 Toyota Highlander XSE 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl 8A)

I’ve have had the XSE AWD for 13 months. The front seats feel a little tighter than the 2017 Highlander SE that I also have BUT measured all the dimensions at it’s the same. I think the center console is just a tad higher making it feel “tighter”. The ride is a little stiffer than the 2017 SE and it sits higher but that’s due to it being AWD. Rode great in the snow and heavy rain using the different drive modes. The seats are not as “plush” as the 2017 SE leather but it’s still comfortable. Pickup is actually better than the 2017 model entering the highway and passing 18 wheelers. The rear cargo with the 3rd row seats down is a little smaller but adequate. Overall it’s a good SUV that was worth purchase.
