Used 2018 Toyota Highlander Consumer Reviews
great ride
the vehicle is great, only two issues. For what we paid for the limited P a trailer hitch would have been nice, Also the passenger seat doesn't go down as far as the drivers seat. a little awkward getting in. Otherwise a great ride.

Generally a Great Vehicle, but...
Purchased a 2018 Highlander LE Plus with about 29,000 miles in August, 2020. Smooth, powerful, comfortable ride with very good interior space. The only area that leaves a lot to be desired is the entertainment system. I realized when I purchased it that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were not available. However, the Entune app and sound system are low performing. The voice recognition is pretty laughable. Even when commands are understood on the first try, there is an excessive lag in getting a response. The Scout navigation system and app at similarly slow. Have been trying to decide on which after market head unit to have installed. Other than that, very nice vehicle! As of June 14, 2023, my Highlander has 68 k miles. I had both the front and rear brakes done (with new rotors) at around 50 k miles, and a new battery at around 55k miles. Other than those routine items, it's been smooth sailing! Decided not to get a new head unit, because the Bluetooth works well with my phone, and I use a device to mount my phone to the dash when using Google Maps.

Good value - Platinum could be better
Overall good car, has third row which is harder to find in this package. Toyota has fixed many of the annoyances from 2011 Limited model (which I upgraded from) such as backup camera screen size, phone activation button location, and the touch sensor only opening the driver door. When compared to models such as Lincoln Nautilus there are missing items such as adaptive headlights, self parking and remote start ... some of these elements should really be in the package at this competition level. We went with the Highlander because we were familiar with it, resale value and the third row seat. The technology package should really use navigation apps such as Waze instead of SD cards and Toyota tech, and the text messaging integration from my Apple phone still doesn't work (it may be the user). It is a dependable brand with lots of goodies for the value. If you are looking for all the toys you may want to look at the other luxury crossover brands, but it will cost you 10-20% more and you will lose some functionality such as third row seating and some space.

Leaky valve and bad cylinder head at 22,000 miles
New 2018 Highlander performed great until the check engine light came on at 22,000 miles. Took to dealer and the diagnosis is a bad cylinder head caused by a leaky valve. Two weeks later I'm still waiting to get the vehicle back. Dealership did provide a free rental and and is treating me right, but discouraged when I was told this is not a unique issue to the Toyota. I've owned many cars the past 40 years, most have gone well beyond 100,000 miles, and I've never had a problem like this. Very happy with the Highlander until this happened (other than the information system and navigation is difficult to use). Hoping this will be my one and only major engine problem.
